Hello everyone,
Over my time here I, like many others, have been frustrated with the poor handling of PWI and with the money grabbing antics of the company.
I have seen some players blaming the GMs among other representatives of the company for things that aren't their fault.
I had an interaction with a GM today and I must say they were very helpful, despite not being able to fix my issue.
From the discussion I had I have deduced one thing. The GMs do care and if it was up to them, in my opinion, the game would be far better off.
Another thing is this. The devs have restricted the GMs rights. The GMs aren't able to do many things that I know someone with GM rights can do. (I know this from my time playing an Epic game similar to this one)
The GM I interacted with DID NOT say ANY of these things. It was just things I learnt from what they couldn't actually do. So if any PWI representatives read this, your GM did nothing wrong, they did not tell me anything. I just know what a GM can do from my experience in another Epic game similar to this one.
So basically, don't get mad with the GMs guys, they do care and I suspect they are just as frustrated as you or I with some of the things PWI has chosen to do.
If you want to direct your anger at people from PWI look at the Devs. They come up with these "great" ideas that makes our experience less than what it could be.

GMs are living creatures only but they do make mistakes, and who will be punished? casue PWI dont know who made what they only see what are told to them, and noone from "Boss"es will read this, they dont care about the forum or comunity, they just want money, and that we can see from the game, just ask the question where are all those employements who did something for players in this game? where...well they are not here anymore, and then ask Why? thats what only "Boss"es knows...anyways 1 sale monthly, ruined economy, overpiced things in butique, dont need to much time to see PWI becomeing a P2P game, and then PWI will be dead b:laugh
and then again, have no idea whats this post about but its nice to write something down for comunity what basicaly will see only players (No Offense MODs i know you are players too b:kiss) cause if some of "Boss"es would actualy care...this game would be different not only for "Boss"es for players too.
and then again b:laugh blaming GMs doesnt mean we doo blame GMs, we, comunity, just having no idea who to blame, then we saw the GM word and now when something happens, we blame GMs, while 65% of ppl dont even know what GMs means

TBH its not just PW, or even a game, even worse IRL sadly. Which is a reason why most humans deserve the punishment and be hated with a passion. >_>Sage barb in progress.0 -
And here I was, thinking that it was common knowledge that China is pulling the strings in the end...
And still people complain about GM's for the state of the game.
PWE leases the software, they have nothing to say about how it works in the end, all they can do is make suggestions and hope it gets implemented.Soon™
Well, maybe later, semi-retired.0 -
I get that the GMs are our semi-direct point-of-contact to the people that really support this game and have no authority to make game changing decisions. But after all this recent stupidity coming from the decision makers it would be nice for the direct emails for the all the board of directors and senior management at PWE to be 'accidentally' leaked to these forum. b:sin0

I think a lot of people already know and/or realise that GMs are simple workers trying to work for a living and have to follow what their higher ups say. We have witnessed what might happen if the staff try to go against it (remember what happened to that CM).
However, since the GMs are the only people we manage to get in contact with, the anger is often thrown at them because there's nowhere else to throw it. Someone needs to listen to the players' voices. Sure there are e-mails and other ways but I'm just trying to point out a fact here.
It's also true that a lot of people are unaware of how this whole thing works, though. I can't deny that. Higher ups and Wanmei are those who seem to pull the strings, at least as far as I've read on these forums throughout the years from people that seem to post reliable information.
However, I don't want to over-glorify GMs either like they are innocent victims of a big dark evil plot because I'm certain some of them don't really do what they are supposed to do, some of them are not helpful at all* and some of them choose to go along with the company's..-morals? not sure what word to use- instead of trying to make a difference like v4liance did. Instead of trying to communicate with the players they choose to let us in the dark because.."hey the higher ups don't seem to care so why should we make an extra effort?". I could be wrong but sometimes I get this vibe from some.
*I sent a ticket sometime ago because of an issue with the charge rewards that was on their end but I got a response of how charge rewards work and asking me for more information/proof. I responded providing what they asked and the reply was an exact copy&paste of the previous one suggesting that they didn't even read my ticket.

So basically like your post saying you don't know how things functioning here, you have no clue what they can or cant do, and basically you don't have any proof of what you saying, except thats your opinion...so whats the point of your post.
With no communication at all from pwi side, people have no clue who to turn to anymore. Can you blame them?
And for your info they actually don't care, its their job and they work for the money not because they care for us. They are just polite because they have to be same as when you get that nice auto response when you submit your ticket. It doesnt resolve your problem but its always polite:)0 -
It's basically what I've always said. (And a lot of my info comes directly from GM's and CM's that I've spoken with over the years, and even a couple of the guys from China.)
With PWI, PWE leases the client from Wanmei. PWE owns the hardware, Wanmei owns the software. Our "Dev's" are only able to pre-release test on our beta servers, and the only control that they have over the PWI client servers is the basic maintenance tasks of turning things off and on. All of the updating, patch releases, and code is managed by Wanmei. PWE isn't able to touch that.
Now, add to that the support team. You're looking at 20-25 people who are mostly college interns. They don't play all of the games, but are required to support all 14 titles.
That's right, 25 people, working 40 hours a week max, supporting millions of players on 14 different games.
Then you have a small handful of CM's overlooking that and managing things.
From a logistic standpoint, it's a nightmare. I'm surprised that they are able to do as well as they do.
I've seen smaller companies provide more support.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Well of course GM doesn't have absolute power on everything.
Examples:
They cannot allow sex change scroll just cause people ask, they don't have that power even if they wanted.
But they does have some powers, when some people complain on forum that it's a year they report the same bot every weeks and the bot never got ban then it's the GM's fault.
In general a lot of people get mad at the wrong people, some people have no clues what's the difference between a mod, GM, dev. Some people don't even know what is CN.
I think they should do more often events like ''meet the GM'' like we had maybe 2 years ago. the GMs did stay at least 1 hours and did answer people question, it was really nice. (though we did realize that not all GMs are nice xD)0 -
MissCherie - Harshlands wrote: »In general a lot of people get mad at the wrong people, some people have no clues what's the difference between a mod, GM, dev. Some people don't even know what is CN.
CN = Cartoon Network
MOD = Monks of Doom / Main dOeuvre Directe (French: direct labor)
DEV = Data Element Validation
GM = Genetic Manipulator
Now people have no excuse not to know what these abbreviations mean b:cute[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

From personal experience with this game I can tell you that there is a least 2 levels for GM on a PWI server.
One has an ingame menu that can be called with a special hotkey combo and limited abilities such as spawn x number of x monsters for a defined amount of time from the database and some other features such as ban hammer, lol, e.t.c.,
they definitely cannot add things to the database or alter the code,
the only one who can do this is the server admin who has the console interface and any small change there can result in a failed server unless implemented very carefully.
The guys here do the best that they can with the rules and tools they are given, plus most GMs are likely playing normal chars, as having the ability to murder everything in the game gets old real fast, (again from personal experience) and it is also the best way to observe other players behavior.
How do I know this? At the risk of getting in trouble I once had GM rights on a private test server which we eventually shut down, when we were satisfied that that it was fully functional, and to tell the truth, its much more challenging to play the game they way its meant to be played, not the way it can be played.
Remember GMs rights are a set of tools and like all tools they have limits.There are old Warriors, and bold Warriors,
but there are very few old bold Warriors. b:chuckle0
