Instead of just getting a random color. All I ever get is green stuff and not a pretty green like teal or aquamarine, but icky green.

This. It's all a way to get more money invested into the game. Though maybe they should have an option for an additional one or two gold that you could select the color, but they wouldn't add that option in for free.as-sas-sin

I don't mind too much I guess...it makes my fashion special being all Cream pigment coloured. Others may feel the same.
I do understand the feeling though..it is frustrating xD but random dying fashion has a pretty damn high change for black so at least that's something. I don't like black fashion too much (only on some) but at least it's a decent colour for most fashion (although it's not really a colour!).

Why would you ever want to pick a color though? When I go clothes shopping I always keep my eyes shut so I can randomly pick something and then let an employee lead me to the cash register where I can buy it. Sure sometimes I buy ugly clothes but I love being surprised by the color of things I pay for. I expect the game to behave exactly the same way as real life.
In all seriousness though the dyeing system is dumb and discourages people to buy fashion. I only buy used fashion since I hate having to deal with the game's dye system. I bet PWE loses money from dyes overall due to the lowered demand for fashion.[sigpic][/sigpic]

It would be so much nicer if you could buy your clothing the color you want, even if it did cost a few gold more. Or if they can't do that, let us make dyes
For this they could add a dye crafting skill and use the Fashionista NPC. You can go to her and chose any color you want and to make the dye you need say 2 random dye and 1 normal dye (like orange if you want to make a peach dye). This will help the dye market as well as allow people to dye their clothes a specific color. Also the colors should state their hex code or something so if at a later date you want to dye more fashion that same color you just type in the code and can make that same shade over again.AstriaFae

Olive green is one of my most favorite colors irl, and I got some fashion in artichoke/moss green. Unless it is a Lovebird dress or another luxurious gown, these colors can look very nice. But I don't like getting that inept turquoise green. It may be pretty in real life, but on PWI fashions, it just doesn't work.0

I agree, they could at least let us choose between some unpopular colors when buying fash in the boutique... Like brown, orange, yellow, etc... It still won't be all that pretty but at least we can get a full matching set in the "ugly" color of choice that way... And then use dyes later on if we want a more pretty color... Or indeed just make dyes craftable (like in some other games I played) though it'll probably end up being one big flop anyway knowing PWE... f:sweat[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Know what would be awesome but never implemented by PWCN?
If, upon choosing to buy a certain fashion item, if we have enough gold we'd get a popup asking if we'd like to buy the entire set (maybe even at a small discount compared to buying it normally). If we select "Yes", we're given a preview window where we can then select a color like the normal preview. This color would be applied to the entire fashion set (so no we wouldn't get to do something like a white top with black heels) after we've confirmed our color choice. Of course, if we chose not to buy the entire set, we'd have to deal with the system as it currently is where we get random colors.
Perks to this:
-More people spending larger amounts of money to buy entire sets due to getting to choose their own color.
-Those who do not with to buy entire sets remain entirely unaffected, thus leaving a use for pigments still.
-People with common sense stop telling them how pants-on-head-STUPID the current system is.
Cons:
-Pigments suffer a slight hit to sales... though that's not a big thing considering most people don't buy pigments when they aren't selling specific ones anyway BECAUSE the normal way of getting pigments is... again... hoping you get the right color at total random. Which, when combined with the absurd amount of pigments most fash needs, is a complete turn-off for people who would otherwise consider buying them.
-People will have issues justifying the absurd costs of red, white, and black fashions as now players can just get the color they want to begin with instead of having to spend weeks hunting down the right colors (or pigments) over WC, the AH, and various catshops.
-We may potentially see less non-pack fashion for sale (from other players, not PWI) due to people not being as fast to sell their fash out of it having some crappy color they didn't want in the first place.
Yeah I thought of the idea, pros, and cons on a whim. Any thoughts? XD(Insert fancy image here)0 -

If it is cheaper than the dye system as currently is, there would be zero reason to buy dyes.It wouldn't be a slight hit, it would pretty much make it outdated. And I think most people go for sets anyway. I sure as hell wouldn't be dyeing anything if I could choose my own colors just because i purchased a set, for example. I'd just sell whatever pieced I didn't like to another player just looking for that one piece. Or figure out something to match it with. Since the gold costs of the accessories I don't want (usually wig/sleeves) is usually cheaper than buying pigments for the outfit parts I do want.0 -
When PW changed the dyeing system from a single dye for each piece of clothing to multiple dyes, it already showed that they just want more of your cash. So do you think they would let you choose your clothing color?0

Well, that is a luxurious green, so of course, it looks fine. I was speaking about more neutral shades, like artichoke/moss green I got my last free fashions in (boots from the anniversary reward and a dress for event gold here http://i770.photobucket.com/albums/xx346/Marianakrn/61b1d79a-a4eb-42dc-9ffa-3e604e96faaa.jpg ). I don't feel like dying them for now, unless I'm bored with them. And there are some fashions I would love to get in some "military" shades of green, like Leopard pants.
And here is another set in unpopular colors, which is my most favorite for now. I actually wanted it to be brown, so it would look like it's made of pure brown leather, but it is the closest to brown I got with random dyes.

This is just my personal opinion on that, but I dont think ONLY a Merchants-perspective should be considered here. The game itself does need profits so they can dedicate them to fixes.
If everyone waits for someone else to sell something to buy their fashion - due to wasting tons of tons of money to hit on the right color, even if they DO CS from time-to-time, which almost always I do that too - overall CS sales of Fashion will eventually grind to a very low rate. Which from a budgeted players perspective is cool - no reason to sweat getting the latest thing.
Dyes would still be valueable, just not quite as profitable, and their overall retail price could reduce to almost half. Let's not foret you still have the 'Dyeable-Mount/Flyer Market, afterall.
If they did allow a color selection, more players would instantly make compulsive purchases of fashion directly from the Boutique, putting more profit than the random 30 gold bids for popular color cards in the bidding hall. That would be profit available, and should be dedicated to fixes in the game, in my opinion.
In the end, with less and less players even bother to login, the Merchant is not best served by reduced Sales Volume either i.e. you need peeps playing to move your stock anyways.

What I wish they would implement is a "Mix-Your-Own color" option (including preview) using available dyes which would allow for a wide variety of colors and shades.b:dirty
For example:
mixing 1 blue and 1 white to make 2 light blue dyes or
mixing 1 black and 2 red to make 3 deep dark red dyes and so on.
AND, having a much better selection of basic dye colors to begin with would be helpful in and of itself! since the current ones are all so unfortunately blindingly and unnaturally bright (with the exception of black, red, smoke and white).
The vast number of colors needed for the Mix-Your-Own color ARE available in the system since we already have the Random Dye function (which I'm not saying should be done away with). Mixing dye colors would be a win win. We would get the color we want while still having to purchase the dyes for it. The aim is for improved customization, a richer visual experience and a happier clientele. b:victory[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Not a badddd idea. Rather brilliant even. ^.^
Introduces players to the science of color, keeps sales volume up (as long as prices compensate by reducing - which would require PW to compensate by reducing prices so that Merchant's could.) Its something to do, and if priced right would probably increase everyone's profits, as well as giving players what they want without price gouging too much.
*ghost throws up 'victory' sign* b:victory Its a viable option worth exploring, if it doesnt cost too much to actually do.

Awww thank you Brillance. b:cute
I've spoke of my Mix-Your-Own color idea b4 but never got replies on it. It really is something I've been wanting very much. I love to customize and design ...that is what got me started on PW in the 1st place but I've always felt that customization in the dying part of the game was really lacking in diversity.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I don't mind much the way you get a random color. What I don't like is the lack of dyes availaible. There is no forest wood , red dark wine, or navy blue colors for example. You have to get them from random dyes, and that's very hard f:weep0
-
Yes, Azura I agree with you.
That is something the Mix-Your-Own color dye would address (as I mentioned in my previous posts). We could finally have dark and/or natural looking colors as well. Of course I would expect a preview window for the color results to be available to make things fair so you don't end up with an unexpected color result and to help those who may not be color-mix-savy. b:cute
Not only that, but in this case, the color we decide to mix would be repeatable and we could duplicate it on later fash we get.b:dirty
So, for instance, you may dye a skirt you love a certain mixed color to have it fit an outfit, then later new fash comes out and you find that you'd love the new top with that same old skirt as long as they matched. You can just go dye the new top the same mixed color as your skirt. No need to re-dye BOTH to have them match.
Where as, even though u may eventually find a pretty color with Random dyes, the unfortunate thing is, you could never duplicate that same color again with Randoms.
But if you're lucky, Random pigments still are the most cost effective way to re-dye fash and other dye-able items and therefore I'm all for keeping them.b:pleased[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0
