Don't know how to make friends.

I was gonna post this in my server forum, but it's kind of dead there. So I changed the specifics to a more general thing..
Being in a faction doesn't work so well, due to lack of communication, and BHs end so fast, there's no room for any real socialism. So often I just do my dailies and wait around for PWI teacher timer to end, and then log off.
So am I screwed? It's a real drag playing this without any friends. I've tried all sorts of methods to make me approachable, and I've approached others. However those die out quickly, or its me holding it together until I stop talking to them.
All in all, it comes down to this: I haven't clicked with anyone in a long time. I can be loyal/dedicated, dependable. Nobody to vouch for me, I guess, but I like to think of myself as a good source of encouragement where needed.
Kind of like, wanting something to grow and go beyond PWI, like we turn into close friends or something. Maybe some of you here know what I mean by that.
In the meantime I was dealing with this by taking up various activities to better coup with it(3D modeling for major time sink, not so good at making models yet though).

I agree that playing without friends can really be boring.
My suggestion would be to find a faction that has friendly members that enjoy talking and communicate with one another. It took me some time to find a faction that I actually like and now that I have, I have made many friends in it.
I've also made a number of friends on various FW or AEU runs, instances that require communication. If you pvp, going to a place where pvp is frequent and you'll surely make some friends(and probably enemies) there.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Without meaning to be facetious or belittle your plea for in-game companionship, you need to take yourself away from the front of your PC and go find some real life friends.
Virtual friends in a virtual game like PWI are unlikely to form any real and meaningful bonds and truth be told, the PWI environment is not geared for that - its more of a wham bam thank you mam type game.
Go find a 3d modelling workshop (or whatever your interests are) or user group physically located near you and go from there.
Meet people in the flesh - even if its the woman you get your coffee from on the way to work or the lonely person sitting at the last lunch table in the park...
Easier said than done I know, but go find someone elsewhere... then find a game you both like and play together...
My two cents0 -

And it's not really easy to meet people in real life. I have some, yes, work buddies, but have no other friends to share my time with online, and this time is a large amount of time.0 -
The best way is to make friend in squads and ask if you can add them especialy if they are your class. When it came to Factions depends on wether it was a TW or non TW faction.when you are in TW faction making friends is harder unlike a non TW faction which will help one another out if they can.0

I understand what you mean, but what you are looking for is very rare on the internet...
The problem with the "virtual" people as I put it is that most do not portray their real life persona in the game - i.e. they behave differently via the internet than they would if they were standing in front of you. Others may chose to portray a facsimile of their real personalities but keep real life entirely separate from their online life <-- I tend to do this. Still others may put on a totally different act and become a person they are not.. you know, those psychos that WC the biggest load of **** all day...
People online do things they would not normally do in rl and as a consequence, making real friendships are the exception rather than the rule.
So my suggestion stands... go find a gaming group somewhere near you and see if you click with any of them... or go make up an alter-ego and Second Life yourself... ;-)
Point I am trying to make is that this is a game and not a mechanism to find companionship - even if its just something like meeting online to regularly joke around and run quests... Go look somewhere else and if you really like the game, bring them here and have fun together...0 -

Wow someone that thinks along the same lines as I do? b:shocked Scary stuff.
With my career, girlfriend and constant gym workouts, I don't have time for virtual friends. The ones I do have however, have been very good to me in game...but that's probably as far as it'll ever go with me. I'm social when I need to be in game (which is very rare).

I think the person is just looing for some ppl to squad up with not make friends to keep them entertained Tv is better for that.PWI can get lonely when questing or a boss kill.
Judging by the OP's words, he/she is indeed looking for friends to keep them entertained. And I do agree with you, TV is a better way to keep entertained than trying to socialize on this game ; though that's probably not what you meant.

I don't mean to shoot down your suggestion. They are viable, but for me they will bring disappointment, considering my location in real life contains very anti-social people. To find what I want for the revival of my social life, I was forced to look outside of my state, and reach out to those abroad.
And no I'm not looking for people just to keep me entertained.
I seek a real deal friendship. But I guess you are right, it cannot be had in PWI. And maybe all those friendships, I've observed, were composed of personas and are just completely fake.0 -

That's not necessarily true. The people I do have on my FL take my word up on helping them with BH's fill in a full WS spot, help open PV etc. and I know they aren't trying to take advantage of me because they always offer their services in return though I never ask for anything.
Trust is just difficult when you don't actually KNOW the person behind the screen / pixels.

Come to HT and I'll be your friend!! lol. Estimating with how much I've helped "friends" with their gear is about 600Mill+. Which I don't mind, however what I do mind is when they stop playing without consent. Little by little I find myself being more bitter towards making online friends f:meh . Partially it's my fault for being to "friendly" with people from the start.Time is a great teacher, but unfortunately it kills all its pupils ... - Louis Hector Berlioz0

may i ask what factions you have been in? i think factions are a great place to make new friends, especially the larger ones.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

You are most likely to meet idiots and other undesirables in big facs, thus I stay the hell away from them, I already see what kind of people are there by watching people from said facs speak on WC and eventually they are in my BL.[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=14516063001&dateline=1364756666[/SIGPIC] Ty Silvy0 -
I have to agree with Betrigan on this one. I've started playing short after PWI released and while there are many that I will remember long after I quit, none will be a lasting friendship. Then again, I did not start playing this game looking to invite any of this game into my RL. This is not to suggest that it is not possible.
My only suggestion is to play for its entertainment first and friendship second. If you go the other way you are bound to be disappointed.0 -

as undesirable and idiotic as i might be, we are everywhere... even in smaller factions... but there is a larger pool of people and more activities going on which allows you to meet nice people.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

If you black list those people in fac so you only see the good ones - it should work. b:cute[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=14516063001&dateline=1364756666[/SIGPIC] Ty Silvy0 -
It depends on the faction I'd say and the things the faction was built on.
If the faction was built on values such as friendship, family, helping each other and having fun then it's very likely that you'll meet good and nice people there. Good people attract good people.
If a faction was built mainly for TW, PK or other activities as such then it's very likely that you'll meet people who are ***** or like to act like ***** (the whole online/in-game persona thing).
Of course there are factions that were built with good values in mind but eventually turned in horrible factions because they attracted the wrong people...[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

Just one right now, and it's a TW fact. I've joined it because someone asked me through whisper, before that I went some months without one. I can't join TW because the time frames always fall when I'm at work. Thankfully the leader doesn't make it a requirement in order to stay in the faction. They are nice people, but as I said, there's very little talking going on, but it's great when it does happen.Desdi - Sanctuary wrote: »Good people attract good people.

Hmm, I donno about dumb. Maybe overly judgmental? I try not to let that get to me.0 -
I find it quite funny you posted this because I first read your name as Vennetid, which means 'friend time' in my language ^^
But I dont know, best would be to try find a nice faction where you come along well in. Personally I'm not that social and I stay quiet a lot in faction, while I'm more talkactive in whisper lol.0 -

Also, at the OP, I've seen several say that this game doesn't support that. I disagree completely. The game does support it, and we had it before the cash cows and power creep ruined the in-game community.
It's a bit harder to find now, but it still can be found. You just need to find the right faction, and that's usually one that focuses on friends and family values, rather than achieving any one end-goal. There are still factions out there that have thrived over the years and lived through all of the various drama that occurs solely because of the values they have.
I don't know about your server, but I could point out two or three on Sanctuary. Surprisingly, one of them is about twice as active as most of the bigger TW factions.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

My name means "The Currents of Time" in Skyrim's dragon language. Latin is one of its derivatives.
I could have gone with another language and use nyamonyas tim(friend time) but my current one sounded cooler.SylenThunder - Sanctuary wrote: »

We're on the same server, and I see you around north arc sometimes, on that building with the pots and rap/canny cat shops. (I call this the "Place where the elite resides") since usually all the superduper players idle there :P0 -
I have met a lot of so called virtual friends in my years and years of gaming and many I have became close to but never even seen a photo of them. These friends are different than the flesh because they are easier to lose in most cases is sad.
Yeah gaming with no partners suck mainly in the mmo world, but if you desire true teamwork and competition then go into competitive gaming in first person shooters, you friends and playing with others is much solid and communication is always there working together.Join ladder match competition sites make a team or join one and you will see.0 -

The majority of us just play together as friends and we've farmed our gear. We've had our ups and downs, but it's a nice mix of a friendly faction with a TW faction. Last season we actually got a pretty nice jump in the season. This time we're going a bit slower. (That and we seem to have ticked a couple of people off last season that are holding a grudge. =P )
I wouldn't quite include is in the few I mentioned earlier, though we are close. The main one I can think of on Sanctuary is CoExist. I've had a toon in that faction a couple of times. I can't say I've ever seen a faction as active as that. Almost any given time of day or night there would be 20 actually active people on at a minimum. Great community too.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Not a bad faction for midgame, yep. I know they changed lead since I've been there but watch out too. It can get pretty clique and you might get into trouble if you don't agree with some people. Just my experience.
As for factions and idiots: Likelyminded people find each other. I personally wouldn't want to be in a fac that focuses on TW. It's just the attitude that doesn't suit me. I have taken a step back from factions that just randomly invite people too. Been in those before, and now being part of the application process, I see how much drama you can avoid.
Finding the right faction for you is by no means easy, but once you've found your home you will be happy[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

learn to live with it ._. i used to play pwi only during my summer vacations and used to bid goodbye to them when i am going inactive, it wasnt easy telling bye though, once i returned to the game, no one even had me on their FL. I even ran into some of them but they had the faintest idea of who i was>.< this happend exactly thrice ( these were my last 3 years of school and i was in a hostel,so pwi only duiring holis) and now im back in this game and i play everyday, but i still remember the people id met all those years back, and now i try not to get attatched to anyone at all cause honestly, people in pwi "just don give a ****"....... but yea, hope theres some more people who dont regard the pixel toons to be just toons, but realise that there is a person made of flesh sitting behind each comp xD0
