Im getting this error after haven't played the game for more than half a year. I ran the updater / verify the files, and still the same error keeps popping after i click 'START' after on the launcher.

Afterwards, reboot.
As for DirectX, you would have gotten a specific message if that were the issue, and the client would have prompted an install of the correct version which is inside the client directory.
