Multi-clienting and multiple accounts

When I first started duel-logging I read over the rules about it a dozen times very carefully, and they were extremely specific about only 2 accounts being on at the same time and no more for any reason. They were very serious about it, so I thought that meant you could only own two accounts, period.

But then later I wondered if maybe they only meant "only have two ONLINE" but I didn't want to risk it. Somebody just told me that's true, that you can have as many accounts as you want as long as you're only online with two at a time.

Can anybody please clear this up, hopefully with a link to where it's mentioned in the site rules? I really need that third account (though I only need to be online with two at a time) but I didn't make it (which meant I had to level up the same class twice so it would be on both accounts) because I'm not sure exactly what they meant about this.

    There isn't a viable reason to create an excessive number of accounts, so any suspicious activity from now on will be fully dealt with. We aren't going to punish you for having existing accounts prior to this rule, but you can only be online on two at once at the most.
    More than 2 accounts for an individual player is considered excessive according to frankie. Unless this rule has changed since 2011 you cannot create a 3rd account.

    So, it looks like it says everybody can only have two accounts, but if you already had multiples before the rule then it's okay as long as only two of them are online at a time. :/

    That means older users are allowed to have multiples and only be online with two at a time and can choose whatever two they want to sign in with, but newer users are only allowed to have two accounts total and have to make duplicate characters since your cleric can't heal characters on its own account, etc. -_-

    that is correct.
    on the other hand older users were not allowed to multiclient in the same computer; you had to run you other toon in a second one (and let alone paying 1000usd for r8 while it now costs <40)

    Not everyone run without 2 clients open, a lot use the second account to set a shop while they play a char on the other account.

    Low lvl content is easy to solo now and later level you can squad with people, you don't need to just play by yourself.

    What I suggest you is to make a account for caster (all magic class) and the other for melee, LA/HA toons. It's what everyone do, old players don't have 10 accounts with one of each class, they put the casters on one account and use a account stash stone to share the gears and same with the other account, but with LA/HA chars.

    The person who told me "it's okay to have as many accounts as you want, just only be online with two of them at once" made all characters separate accounts so they could get codes like this on all of their characters at once.

    =/=
    you can have any number of accounts you want

    Reverse that it's better to have your AA/LA on one account and HA on second account (make a second cleric on that account). Then you can use a cleric and sin to buff your heavies. Plus you can account stash your phy def ornaments between your LA/AAs. It's a good set up if you do a lot of solo farming, then you never have to worry about trying to get buffs.
