Interest Poll for PWI-IRL Meet-Ups

Hi everyone! Arty here!
I'm looking to see if anyone would be interested in a real life PWI meet-up! I am from the Southwest U.S.A and am hoping to host a gathering in Texas. Would you be interested in getting to know your fellow players? How about a "cosplay your character" contest to boot? I've hosted all kinds of meet-ups over several years, but never for PWI. Why not get the chance to meet your fellow squad or faction mates?
If you're in the Southwest U.S.A or wouldn't mind traveling down here, just drop a comment here to let me know if you are interested in such a thing. Do you want a meet-up but aren't in the area? That's okay, too! Just post your general region and let me know if this sounds like a good idea for you!
This is just an interest poll for now, but if enough interest is generated, I'll start the planning process. I can't wait to hear from, and hopefully SEE, all of you! Have a great day!

Sincerely,
Artaxiad - Heaven's Tear, Barbarian of the faction Invasion

ye i gotta warn you that even though my veno is named sasha grey and looks about as hot as the real sasha grey, i will probably be a little dissapointing IRL. b:sad
Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.

Sounds fun but I'd personally not participate. I'm probably too far from any possible meet ups and I don't have the ability to travel or the money to do so. I'm just a poor college student.
Another thing is that I'm not exactly interested in meeting other PWI players. There are very few people I met in-game that I want to meet in real life. Some friends are better left as online/game friends.

I can see nothing wrong with this idea... although you'll need a pretty big bar tab. I live down the street (few town over) from quiet a few current and former guildies... never did put in the effort to meet them.
    1. If I kill you; do something about it yourself, don't go complaining to my wife.
    2. If you have less kill counts then me, don't expect me to take pk advice from you.
    3. If you are hiding behind an alt, don't expect me to acknowledge your existence.

I play the game for entertainment, and chatting with people in game from time to time. However, I have no desire to meet people, turn it into pwimatch.com, findmeahotdate.com, or meet as a collective of nerds.

Not really interested in a general meet-up, but I have no problem with meeting friends.

I used to live in San Francisco, my wife in Toronto, we met from this game and I moved to the Toronto area where our daughter was born -- now we've moved to Calgary. In May of this year (after a 2 year hiatus) we met another player on our server and went with her to Cedar Point, and I've had phone conversations/texts off and on with about a dozen players since then. Hell, one of my best friends I've had for 12 years now, who drove out from Sacramento to Toronto last summer, we met from a game as well, and not surprisingly, it was on the way to another theme park, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (was Marine World back then). I've met in total between 25-30 people between games and game-related forums I'm a member of.

Meeting people is cool, but I find it less fun and personable in large groups, especially given how many players are introverts outside of the game. I personally find it more fun with a group size no larger than 3-5.

I'd love to meet up with my in game friends and maybe some more people I've met, but I live in Europe so it's kinda difficult. Most of my friends live in Europe too tho, but we haven't really considered meeting up. Although it is a fun idea I know that some people aren't really as fun to meet in real life as you'd guess from their online talk, so it may not end up as well as planned b:laugh Also I'm pretty sure that most of my PWI friends are 10+ years older than me so Idk if we'd get along outside the game. Aaaand since I'm pretty much of a wallflower until I get to know someone well, I'd rather not meet up in groups unless there's like 500 people or I've got a friend with me.

What if you meet someone who you pk'ed in-game one too many times... and will now be using the meet up as a chance to pk you in real life. Considering the amount of players that I pk'ed, ks'ed, etc etc... I have gotten some really interesting threats. I am also one of the nicer guys in the pk world (comparably)... won't be surprised if a few murder mugging resulted from these meet ups.

You stand a far better chance of randomly getting hit by a car or randomly getting mugged at gunpoint in any large US city than running into an internet sociopath with the motivation to go out and hurt/kill someone because they were pk'd in a game. I would exercise caution about who I meet from the internet just for the sake of avoiding an uncomfortable situation, but not give such an extreme event like that much gravity upon my decision.

"A MIDDLE-aged man carried out a real-life revenge attack on the teenager who killed his character in an online video game.

Mark Bradford, 46, saw red when the boy gloated after gunning him down while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops.

A court heard how Bradford stormed out of his bedsit and assaulted the 13-year-old who was playing the war game"

I am not suggesting that the possibility is high or anything of the like. I am suggesting that this is one coin toss that I am not so willing to flip. After all... everything is a statistic until it happens to you.

I get what you're saying. I wouldn't take unnecessary risks if I thought it was by any reasonable means probable (people back in the US are far too paranoid of each other where they elevate risks that, even in a country with a higher than usual crime rate, are extremely low, as I'm sure meeting places aren't going to be in US ghetto's), and usually when a circumstance like that occurs there is some tangible semblance to show you that it's probable.

OTOH, the reason I'd avoid large get-together's isn't because I'd be worried about some oddball sociopath brandishing a weapon, but because large get-together's are far more impersonal (meaning hard to find time to spend with specific people that you might actually go there intending to meet and have a good time with), and if I wanted to hang out with a random crowd I'd just go down the street to a pub on thursday/friday karaoke nights instead of take a 4 hour flight (or 16-24 hour drive) to the southern US.

Wow guys, thank you for all the replies and personal insights! It is interesting to see what people have to say about meeting others and the experiences that they've had. In regards to personal safety, there is always a way to get security, and in parts of Texas you MUST have security guards for meetings over certain numbers. I'd like to think that no one would take out their in-game grudges IRL, but I totally understand everyone's concern.

I am pretty shocked to find out such a difference in opinions from game to game! An old game that I used to play was HUGE on people making meet-ups. That's what this interest poll was for. I wanted a public opinion on what the fellow PWI players thought about getting together and saying hello, and it seems the opinion is pretty steady on the "I'd rather keep them in game".

You guys have been awesome in your replies and I've loved reading the conversations. Even if I don't meet you in real life, I hope to see all of you in game!!

    Sincerely,
    Artaxiad
