So I was minding my own business. Then I looked to the sky and it was infested!

Loads of flying thingies, which is so awesome cause they're all [?] and all close together, and I got to level my nix there.

I was wondering, what event is this? Someone told me it's a Legion event, but no one was very sure.

When and what time does it occur? Inputs would be greatly appreciated.

    A event long forgotten...

    Legion would be right.
    Activated only through grinding mobs (Even longer forgotten)

    OMG I want to do it. Does anyone know what's the quest chain or the procedure like? I googled but didn't find anything that seems to be it....

    There is no quest chain.

    It's a remnant of the ancient times when people did a magical thing called "grinding mobs" instead of running FC, BH, and PV to level. This long forgotten art allowed mobs on the world map to have a use other than occasionally annoying a player digging mats as they had chances to drop various items like the one linked. When used by a player, these items had a chance to trigger various wraith attacks on the cities of an appropriate level range. The most loved one, of course, being the legion event on Thousand Streams that you witnessed.

    I was surprised to see one today in Thousand Streams today. It's a pretty rare event nowadays. I remember I had a group of friends (kind of quit) who kept the items until 2x and they spammed it and we farmed a lot of DQs that way.

    The secret letter that MyMate linked is the necessary item, and is only available from a quest chain that's no longer available, or as an extremely rare drop from high level mobs ('way down at the bottom of the Additional Drops Table.)

    Oh gosh I love that event! Only been to 3 in almost 4 years (counting only the 1k event), last one was pretty recent during x2 drops, it is a goldmine for dq, and it's super fun!
    The mobs die pretty easily, one aoe and they die, but make sure you don't take more than you can handle, those darn things hurt when in packs and you will die.

    There was never a quest chain for it...

    And the drop chance is 0.027% That means on average you'd have to kill over 3700 mobs to get one to drop. Which honestly isn't that bad, but considering not many people really kill mobs anymore it is far from being as common as it was 3+ years ago...

    There was one on LC about a week ago, and I remember another one not too long before that as well.

    Au contraire... Punishment of Luna, though if you limit that to "never a quest chain for it on PWI I'd agree, as the dates for that quest predate PWI.

    You'd have a better chance at getting them to drop while doing that quest than getting it from that quest. You'd need to kill around 5300 mobs to get it from repeatedly doing it... And since 5300 > 3700...


    Edit: Actually the drop chance is slightly different on mobs that quest wants you to kill. It is a bit higher (4500) but 5300 > 4500 so point still stands.

    I think your calculations are off by 2 orders of magnitude (forget to convert a percentage?) For the aging harpies, which have about the best chance of dropping the secret letter, you have a .4996% chance of an additional item, which has a .0556% chance of being a secret letter. 1/(.004996*.000556) = 360,000, quite a bit over your 3700 mob figure.

    Ultrafin Supremes have a slightly higher chance of getting an additional item, but a worse chance of that item being the Secret Letter, and for those you need on average 450,000 mobs killed to drop one secret letter.

    I am just popping into this thread to announce that I have two of these Secret Letters - obtained during the last 2x - stashed in my bank and plan to start them back to back during the next 2x on Sanctuary.

    I suppose I was lucky, because I got them from doing that age-old thing called 'grinding', within 2 days or so.

    Well I guess that's what I get for being tired and doing the math wrong...
    0.4996 * 0.0556 = 0.027 which I erroneously converted directly into a percentage... (and not using WolframAlpha to sanity check myself)

    I tend to do these after maintenance if I'm around/got time. I hold the item in my bank and start it up upon logging on. Gotta be selfish about it!

    Keep in mind though that when started, the Legion event only lasts an hour.

    Also to note, when someone opens that letter, the attack will be posted under system(red spam) "so and so is being attack by wraiths join and help" or something like that

    If it's a Legion attack such as in Thousand Streams, it's normally not announced. You just have to be in the right place at the right time, or to be told about it.

    um I think that the 1k and DW attacks are legion attacks that are triggered by scarlet letters while the rest are wraith attacks

    And damn those were always fun events.
    A lot of money (well, for those times) and DQ points to be made out of them.
    I remember going to those with squads, setting aoes and actually pulling mobs to get more kills. 1 person in squad was actually designated just to pick up drops b:laugh
    The one in 1k is all flying mobs, the one in DW is land. Good times, good times.

    DW is so much better for pulling/aoeing. although as a psy you have an advantage in 1k due to the flying speed buff. I went in a wraith attack recently and it was pretty good profit (Assuming DQ are worth ~8k). I also lol'ed when I saw a g16 veno killing huggy hares and qqing about crappy drops/eventb:chuckle

    The fact that you can save these for 2x times is prolly why i saw like 2 in Archo server during the month of 2x. Thought it seemed fortunate enough to see even that many so quickly. I think there may have been more but I never saw them with my own eyes, just came in on them as they were cleaning out.
