Beginner's Tips?

I played PWI a long time ago, back when only three classes were available. Since then, I noticed a significantly large portion of the game has been changed. I have played DCUO, WoW, GW, ***, EQ, RoM, Allods Online, and a LOT of other free MMORPG's, so I'm not new to the world by the least bit.

I spent the last three days reading through the beginner's guides and various posts; however, they all seemed incredibly long and intrinsic. Although I learned a lot, I'm sure there's a lot more I have missed.

My question is simple: DO any of the veterans out there have any generic tips for a fresh player who is experienced in the MMO world?

I am currently playing a Psychic, if that matters.

The only tip i can give you is to not start this game alone. You should probably try to join a faction as soon as you can and dont spend too much real money ingame. If you look at our forum, you can see that nearly every third thread is about how dead this game is.

PWI has become different than the games you listed. Thats mainly because the developers are trying to get enormous amounts of cash while they ignore bugs and problems the game already had for years. When you look at the last patches, you can see nearly every patch is about Sales.

Its pretty easy, if you wanna spend huge amounts of money you can reach the endgame in a few weeks via powerleveling and buy your endgame gear what is rank 9 gear(you have to spend thousands of dollars). Thats what the most ppl do.

If you want fun, you can always lvl up your char with quests and dailies without spending massive Cash and of course you can farm everything, but that might take some months depending on server. There are also daily money making quests from Jolly Old Jones if youre below 80.

The biggest difference between the PWI you might remember and todays PWI is the fact that everyone can hit 100 in no time because of powerleveling-services, what means that you cannot make money with crafting TT/Gold Gear if you are low-mid lvl anymore. You can farm the lower mats from mobs (theyre still wanted), but you shouldnt spend your time crafting gear below 95 unless its for yourself. Most of the people arent doing low-mid lvl dungeons as well anymore.

The playerbase has become more aggresive and profit-orientated, so you better not squad up with people in world chat for dungeons and events the first time you try them.
People can be very unfriendly today.

However, if you can find a nice faction or some friends to play with you the game still is funny.

right, most people spend thousands of dollars. </irony>

in fact, the game is getting better and better and a lot of content for f2p players.
What do you expect, content updates every week or fixing a minor bug instantly?

Indeed, lots of people cry about OP cashshoppers. There are some that spend thousands of dollars. I actually even met someone in game that did so without getting any characters to level 100+.

However, the majority of OP people is just playing for several years. When you play several years you will catch up with them, inflation and vastly overpriced chienkuns will make that possible. I am only playing for about 1 year yet so no, im not defending myself. Im just one of the poor buggers, but instead of QQ about CS, i just play and know that in another year the losers will be acusing me of CSing.
Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.

I never said that OP people are only Cashshoppers. b:chuckle
In fact i didnt say anything about being OP.
I also said he shouldnt spend TOO much on the game, never said that people who Cash are fail. I was talking about spending huge amounts of money here to reach endgame and gear up without doing Quests, dungeons, dailies or anything else the game has to give.

And i also told him that he could farm everything and this would take longer, what is basically the same as you did:

Although i dont think you need several years to catch up.

Sorry i might have used the wrong words. "Thats what most people do" was actually about powerleveling to 101, not about spending thousands of dollars.

I dont QQ about anything (at least not in this thread), its just how it is. The game has good and bad sites, and those have changed within the last years.

    I have a few tips:

    1. Keep an eye on PW's facebook page for a code to get something called a Dreamchaser pack. Inside it is some gear tailored to level range (up to level 40-50?) and other things like a perma flyer and mount.

    2. You can get free daily charms up to level 60 via the Harbinger NPC in every major city.

    3. Season quest dailies become available at level 20 and go until 40. It's a nice bit of daily exp. The NPCs are located in every race city + southeast Arch.

    4. At level 40 or 41, a quest chain becomes available known as the Goshiki quest chain. It will give you quite a bit of exp, money, and other things like mirages and some refine aids. There's a guide for it somewhere in the quest section.

    5. Also at level 40, I believe, is the opportunity to start a set of quests called Jolly Jones quests that you do solely for money. It's a good bit of $$$. These are located at the starting areas for the races.

    1. Gear you get goes up to lvl 40 but some of it is good up to the 70's.

    5. Bounty Orders start at lvl 21. Here's what you get from it at every level range http://pwi-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/Bounty_Order_Quest
It's possible to save all your orders and do them at lvl 71-80 for maximized profit.

I have a couple of tips that might be of use to you, actually! f:cute

    1. Whatever you do, DO NOT spend your attribute points that you get when you level up on every stat and try to make them all even. That would just mess up your toon and end up making him or her weaker than they should be. Trust me, I've learned this the hard way when I first played way back when the open beta was just about to be released and I ended up regretting it when i couldnt get the right equipment for my level or do a whole lot of damage.

    2. Try to watch and control how much you spend on teleporting. I know it may seem faster and easier than running/walking, flying, or riding to wherever you want to go and it may not seem like your spending all that much, but the expenses do add up and some places start to get more expensive to teleport to once you start to get to higher levels. In the end, its actually much better to walk/run or fly from place to place and also much cheaper since you don't necessarily have to pay to get there.

Teleporting to every step of WQ cause you need the exp to level = -300k xD

Thats like.. 2x exp rooms. (if you find them for 150k)
Well the exp isnt same since fcc exp rooms r better than WQ. :D
