You know the type. It's the annoying *** hat who stands around all day and does nothing but beg people for money. We all have different ways of dealing with them. Share your particularly amusing stories here.
A few months ago, I ran into a bluenamed sin who greeted me politely in PMs and then proceeded to ask for 200k. It wasn't the first time I'd encountered a beggar, but it was the first time I'd decided to troll them back.
By that, I mean that I decided to convince them I was dying of terminal liver cancer. Or it could've been stomach cancer. I can't remember, but it was cancer of some sort. At stage 4. So it was obviously a terminal case.
After that, I explained that I was leaving everything of mine to a friend. It would've been funny to see just how appalled they were at not believing my story at first once I managed to convince them, were it not for the fact that they then proceeded to try and beg me for my whole character. Seriously. You know you've reached a new low when you're demanding that a cancer patient leaves you, a complete stranger, their possessions. Talk about a depressing end to an amusing trolling.

That whole story makes me weep for humanity. I has a sad. f:shame
Anyway, funny begging story that I have. Once, back when I was on Dreamweaver....I had fb29 on my archer. Before I could log my cleric, I noticed some veno was offering to do it for people so I joined that squad instead. She starts talking about how her bm level 99 main, and I tell her that I had a sin main as well. She asks the level and I tell her its 100. She immediately asks me to solo FC for her. Now I had been in a particularly pleasant mood and at the time, was thinking of quitting the game anyway. So I figured, why not one last powerlevel. I'll be nice. I took her. Big mistake. I start soloing FC while she follows along and she starts asking if I will solo FC for her everyday. I tell her I might be quitting. She asks for my character. I tell her no, she switches tactics and asks if she can "borrow" my flyer. I say no. We get to the big room and I invite a fac mate. She whispers me not to invite anymore facmates because she wanted the exp, because please she needs. I kick her and fill her place with a random.
Another one, well it's not my story, but I remember reading one in which someone claimed their gear was **** and they had nothing. So a sin bag peeked said beggar a bunch of lowbie gear in the bag and called them out on it.
Also remember another poster did a money and kindness across servers thing, where she asked people for coin. It was really interesting seeing the results of the survey, although I wouldn't particularly call that begging since she didn't ask over and over. But this made me think of that anyway.
It was Susylu's Blog-a-Log

I get PMs all the time from beggars. If they ask me for money, I'll be honest with them, I do not believe in giving handouts to strangers. I will tell them all day long of the various ways to make money themselves, but I will not give them a single coin. If I consider you a friend, that gives you a little license to ask favors, but there are limits.
When I play on my sin, I also get randomly asked to run FC for people I know and don't. The price of my time is 2m. If they want me that bad they'll pay. If they think there's better deals out there, let them bug someone else. Not that I don't run FC, I do charity runs consistently, but its really of my own initiative, and not when someone is begging me.0 -

When I get those idiotic pm's begging for money. My comments are farm for it>Stop begging and get a life>block. 3 step process. When I see people begging for like 50k, it's one of the most rediculous things. An easy low lvl quest of killing 5 mobs will get you that. Takes 2 minutes. You can easily farm 500k with a few quests. This is not real life, this is a game. Homeless/poor does not exsist on PWI. If all you need is 50k to buy something, then get it. Like Mr_Swiss mentioned, when someone asks for coin ~ I say sure hun, its right outside all you have to do is kill it. Why is it SO hard? Another incident was last night, I'm farming DQ so I can dye a top (yes, I'm not ashamed f:grin) and suddenly someone drops right on me during a gather. I was about to say, "Oh, come on, really, no one has farmed here suddenly people come here?!" but she was a low lvl 70 and after she asked if i needed help I kindly asked what she was doing since she struggled just to kill a 102 mob. Long story short she was not aware DQ farming is just gather and kill or know the benefits aside from the DQ page. I forgot to mention Jolly Jones, but she was in a lvl 3 faction ~ couldn't they have informed her?
With 2x on AND Jolly Jones, how can their be any coin-beggers?!
Solo-instance beggar? I'm firm on answering. Simply put, they get only 1 instance because we all know how difficult it was when we were smaller levels (well maybe not too hard to find group) if there is a second or third then consider themselves lucky because my alt might have needed it. Give someone a generous thing, they expect it every time you're on.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I love the ones that ask to borrow stuff. Especially when you know there high lvl alt, but they are asking on a low lvl alt that no one knows. Someone asked me the other day if they can borrow my flyer and my wep. I told them no and im R9s3, it's bound and even if it wasn't, your an idiot for trying. It's even funnier when someone you don't know randomly messages you and says, can i borrow your mount, I wanna see how fast it makes me go lmao. When I heard that one, I said, Here, let me message the gm's that your scamming, so I can see how fast you go.R9s3 Beast w/Demon Facepalm0

I used to get coin beggers more frequently in the older years of the game, now I don't see it too often. I ignore them, or just flat out say NO, I don't even bother blacklisting them, since it's kinda funny.
It's true there's no excuse for it with the JollyJones quests, I started a fresh barb to test out all the updates to the beginner levels, and even with spending money only on skills n using drop/quest/dreamweaver pack items I made almost 5 mil before level 70. That might not be enough to buy lots of stuff, but I could easily buy a tome and some other stuff earlier than I did when I started this game years ago. As well I leveled way faster with just pure questing and doing BHs daily than I ever did when I first started, so really there is nothing to complain about there.
Sometimes I've had people want to "borrow" my mount/flyer, but you've got to be a truly stupid person to fall for that, honestly.
Almost as soon as any 'new' person finds out I can solo things, I get swamped with FCC/TT/BH soloing requests, it really sometimes makes me not want to log at all. Actually, I don't mind soloing BHs at low levels for people, especially if it's more than 1 person wanting the same one, since it is kinda hard to find proper squads for those, and at worst it takes like 20 minutes.
I really don't like the idea of soloing a TT for someone to get all the mats, especially if they don't contribute anything at all. If people need it for a quest like culti or chrono, I don't mind in the early TTs because they're so easy and hardly anything drops there during normal times, but anything 2-X+ it's unfair to the person soloing for the mooch to expect all the mats.
I don't want to power level people, because it just creates a bad player and a wasted character. A game is for playing, and if all you're doing is following someone else who is playing the game, you might as well pick a new game to play.0 -
Never met a begger, but had one guy demand how much I paid for my R9, which I didn't think was any of his business to tell him. He then leaves the faction out of jealousy and mad QQing. This is one of the perks back then to being a solo player, I didn't have to deal with being judged by my gear or being INTERROGATED about it in a group. Glad R9 isn't all that special anymore now.
I've had some mini arguments with low level players comparing their poor status/low coin to "high levels and all their millions of coins" to which I say, the 120k you have, is what I pay in repairs. b:surrender. The 1 mil you brag about, might be a lot at 60, but then you hit 90 and 1 mil is blown all on skill. Oops!0 -
I think it's annoying when someone begs for $$ in game. I tell them to go kill something like I had to. Sometimes they want certain items for things like their apothecary, I tell them to dig themselves or go to a cat shop. If I'm asking for something, it's not because I want you to give me something, it's because I need an idea where appx to find a shop for a particular item, or I can't find a particular mob. Only other time I ask for help is if I can't kill a boss. I at least try..unless it's in a cave, the first time, second time I pull out my lower lvl cleric on 2nd account. If he can't keep my char alive...then I ask friends or faction members for help. Granted it's usually the same people, but they're friends that I've made in game & I've helped them when I can even though I've always been lower...I at least attempt to stay alive & help them with their problems, so it's a give & take kinda thing.0

Joined an SoT BH squad awhile back. We all got inside except for one guy, and we'd started clearing when he suddenly said "are you guys all inside? I don't have enough money to use the illusion stone." I said no problem, just port to Thousand Streams then and fly in. He says no, he doesn't even have enough to teleport to Thousand Streams. At this point I'm pretty skeptical - how does a level 100+ char manage to get themselves below 8k coins? We keep clearing as he starts begging for someone to drop some coins so he can teleport in. Nobody does, and eventually he leaves squad.
The other day I was world chatting for more for my BH squad and I get a response from someone asking to borrow money. Now this rather reminds me of the posts Venus pointed out of the person conducting the kindness experiment, but honestly if that was the case it is a horrible way of going about it. Asking a stranger you see is one thing, but people that wc ads and the like are waiting for specific responses and will only be annoyed to get something like that tossed in. I ignored the person because I was busy making the squad while also clearing the instance.
One time after killing that General Feng boss in the TB chain with my archer for a random person that needed it, he seemed very nice and friended me so I allowed it. After that, nonstop begging to run WGTM for him until I deleted him. Same thing happened when I was flying past Kimsa once and saw someone asking for help so I killed it.... constant begging to be powerlevelled after that even after I said that I don't powerlevel people. This kind of behavior is what makes you think twice about helping random people, and that is sad.
The beggars for pots are what I see most often, though. It isn't so bad when someone is really polite about it, and somewhere like RB where they legitimately cannot go out to buy more. But it really annoys me when people just demand them, saying things like "I'm out of mana pots, somebody give me some." I also seem to get a lot of cases of people begging for someone to give them Crab Meats, when they aren't even the tank and should be able to make it through one BH without them.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Oh let's not forget the random idiots who demand buffs! Husband ran into a seeker one day, in the Cube, who spammed him with squad invites demanding buffs from his cleric.
A few days later, again in the Cube, I run into the same seeker in Room 30, and again he immediately starts spamming me with squad invites and buffs. He couldn't even be half-arsed to be polite about it. I prevented myself from killing him through a combination of sheer will and concentration on self-healing.
On the subject of more beggars, there's another seeker who annoyed me even more than a Simple Plan song by spamming me with squad invites and requests for 1 million coins whenever I joy-WCed my cards from the BH of the day, but I managed to ignore him up until he killed my cleric in the Cube entrance while I was AFK. An hour or so after that incident, he started WCing to sell a certain mold for 350k, at which point I PMed him saying I'd buy it for 500k. With some creative storytelling involving a fictional squad that was impatiently waiting for me in HH, I lured him out of SZ to the area around the Town of Arrivals, where I watched as he ran into a group of mobs, then laughed as he died. Watching him run back out to where I was, I tapped a single key, watched as he got 1-shot, then laughed as I witnessed the beautiful culmination of weeks upon weeks of annoyances into a moment of gloriously petty revenge.0 -
Just the usual story. Was walking through Etherblade leveling a low level BM for a buff **** and found 1 BR player by Etherblade Elder:

When people ask for money, items, or levels, I tell them to **** off...
When a faction mate or someone on my FL asks me to tank their BH.... Yeah, sure, I don't particularly like it, but I'll help you anyway. Then I join the squad and it's just the two of us? And then you say, "Ok let's go" ??? Stab you in the eyes and rage quit. b:angry You aren't special, find more people and stop wasting my time.

I always find it's the exact opposite. It's always the 'I want to take my time playing' or the 'I play for fun' people asking for thing and mooching off others. At least the hypernoobs pay the money to hyper and don't beg for **** in my experience. If you think about it, they need to have money other wise they wouldn't be hypernoobs, because hypering a toon to 100 is bloody expensive.
My sin in r9 atm (not full but a few armor peices 3rd cast). I don't even wear my gear's unless im in a PK situation because i get constant flags for people asking me for money or fc runs. Stop right there.
1) If they don't farm, not sell anything to players then they would always be noobs
2) Depends on where they are having fun, (like if they want to PK) is a reason.
3) Beggars beg for fast levels too.Sage barb in progress.0 -
I love it when people beg me to solo HH for mats for their gears, their lower level BHs, and sometimes their FBs. I say sure why not because I know this happens every freaking time with lower levels. I tell them how much melee DD my herc does and to not out DD it or they will get aggro from the mobs or bosses. Sure enough they do and I laugh as I watch them run and die. I carry on through the instance as the noob takes a few minutes to run back in and to my position.
If they ask me repeatedly to run the instance for them what I say sure then I really slow down and take my sweet time and also command the herc to take 3 to 5 mobs at once. I tell the noob to hit the mobs my herc is attacking but I constantly switch mobs on them and watch them get aggro and die again and again. Most of the times they never hang around long enough to make it to the end of the instance. I send them a PM asking what happened and they said they can't stay on very long. They ask me if they can have the mats when I finish. I say okay. When I finish I send them a PM telling them so and if they wanted the mats they are in the auction house for X price. I usually never hear from these noobs for solo'ing anything again.
As far as the FB and BHs go I do help them out. After that they 'Add' me and I delete them as soon as they log out so they never see me online.
Also while standing at the town of arrivals some low level EP begged me to help with Gouf not far away. I said sure. We get to the mini boss and she starts buffing me as I triple spark and 1 shoot it before she finished her buff. I said there ya go and fly off leaving her there.I **** bigger than you...
Shut up and play the game.....Damn0 -
Reading all these horror tales actually makes me kind of glad I'm a wizard. Sure, farming HH on absolutely nothing but a squishy slow caster with a bunch of randoms was about as easy as simply walking into Mordor, but at least no one ever saw me as useful enough to start begging me for random runs of stuff.
And I have a third story! One that combined begging with scamming! A random lowbie sin needed his daggers manufactured, and I was in a good enough mood to actually do something charitable for once, so I did. The daggers came out nicely, and so I clicked the Trade button to give them back to the sin. No response except for a little purple message saying <insert name here> has refused to trade with you. I find it a little odd, but okay, I wait.
And wait. And wait.
For 15 minutes. No response from the idiot. At this point, I'm highly irritated and frustrated, so I dump the daggers on the ground next to him and run off. If they rot or someone else picks them up, his loss for wasting my time like that. The attempted scamming and begging came after that, when he started WCing in an effort to find me. Upon my response, in PMs, he quickly demanded several things in compensation for the daggers he 'lost". These things included, but were not limited to: 1mil coins(for a mold that cost 30k at the most), some items which I can't remember, and a solo Frost run(which costs about 1.5mil for a single character, if not more, and again, for a mold that cost 30k at the most). Quite the creative scam, at the very least.0 -

Lately I've been favoring my BM, but historically I farmed more on my barb. Aps barb+bp is an unstoppable killing machine and the tiger run speed and Sunder+Arma combo made for quick work of mobs. I also use my sin, as its my highest dps output, but with 7.6k hp its not yet the farming machine my barb and bm are.
Since they're all aps toons and all on the same account they can't buff each other so I've made a sage sin for hour long paint, a sage barb for hour long BKI and Titans, and now I'm making a sage bm for bell.
Funny thing is the sage paint, I could care less if its 2% or 3% I just want the hour. The Barb BKI I could care less if its sage or demon I just want the hour. The Titans, I prefer demon if the barbs in squads since 5% crit > 10% weapon damage, but for a buff alt not in squad sage is better. And the same for BM Golden Bell. I prefer a demon bell if the BM is in squad because they can spam it for 150% defense when you need it, but outside a squad as a buff alt I prefer sage. So all these buff alts are the opposite of what I actually prefer to play with so its kind of weird leveling the sage vit barb, the sage sin, the sage bm.Seven 100+ characters leveled the hard way.
