this is totally bogus, having ping from 600 green then jumps up to 15k red plus taking 5mins to just log in. what is goin on here again for the second time.
Ps, it has nothing to do with our computer connection or anything, theres something wrong with the servers.

It's most likely due to one of the many stops on the internet that your data takes as it travels between you and the servers.SylenThunder - Sanctuary wrote: »People are starting to hate me for posting this over and over, but damnit, there's just nothing better to say until I have more information and it's partially educational as well.....
Common reasons that you can't connect to the servers, experience disconnects, or just have lag in general...
1. You don't have the three .exe files for the client set to run as administrator.
2. You don't have the game directory set as an exception in your security softwares.
3. Your network adapter driver is out of date and needs to be refreshed.
4. Your local area network settings are improperly configured.
5. You have more than one firewall and don't realize it.
6. Your firewall settings are too strict. (Very common with ZoneAlarm and Commodo firewall.)
7. Your router is configured improperly.
8. you have a bad network cable.
9. You're using a wireless network connection. (Which leads to another huge list.)
10. You have a lot of traffic on your local network that is bogging your router/modem down.
11. There's a fault in your router.
12. There's a fault in your modem.
13, You have a bad phone cord plugged into your modem.
14. There's an issue with your house wiring.
15. There's an issue with your outside wiring.
16. A squirrel chewed on your phone line at the pole and it's raining. (I've had this happen personally.)
17. A switch/router at the CO for your ISP is having an issue.
18. One of the many hubs between you and PWI is having an issue. (most common)
19. There is heavy sunspot activity. (has happened within the past two years)
20. There's a regional router outage. (Has happened several times, most recently just a couple of months ago.)
That's just a few. The more details you give, the better I can narrow it down and tell you what the issue is.
Also, post a copy of a traceroute to the server.
Post info and I'll try to help. QQMor and you can just crawl back into your hole.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

It could also be caused by traffic on your local network, or even just a few of your background updater programs firing off all at once.

there is nothing wrong with the computer, connection or router, a friend of mines ping keeps on fluctuating up and down between green and red. soon as they log in its 8k-10k ping in the red, then a few secs later its in the green and back up to red again. plus ive had least 4-5 ppl tell me the same thing along with a long log in wait which one said that it took em 5mins for em to log in on an alt. so you cant tell me its not on their side when its totally on pws side. something is wrong with the pw servers and so they need to get it fixed or pw is goin to have more ppl leave this game totally. The Sure Shot that Flies Straight

If it's 5 people on the entire server, there is likely a problem between your computer and the server and not the server itself. I've experienced this a lot when there was extreme weather, it didn't mean that there was anything wrong with my computer or the server. In fact, at any given time in any game there will probably be people experiencing lag. There would be more threads about this if it was only a server problem, since there always is a ton of posts on the issue, much more than a few people. For what is worth I haven't experienced any lag in Heaven's Tear, and I haven't seen anyone complaining about an abnormal amount of lag either.0 -
Well, I am having the same kind of trouble, lag and to log in takes a long time. The same goes for the people in my faction. I live in Norway, another player in florida USA, and a third in germany. Then one in Sweden. We experienced some of the same problems approx 22 hours ago. It might not be pwi of course, but I am certain there has to be a problem somewhere, and probably not with my computer.0

they have had their computer checked recently and theres nothing wrong with their pc. plus ping is controlled by the server. which means that, theres something wrong here as well as screwy. The Sure Shot that Flies Straight

I don't think you're getting what Sylen is trying to tell you.
<_<...Imagine the route your signal has to take is like a bus route. Somewhere between your house, and your destination, something is on fire and it's causing problems with the signal getting through. So it might not be your computer, yeah, but I doubt it's the server on the other end either. It's something in the middle most of the time. You know how traffic jams are.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I just had to LOL at ping being controlled by the server. Ping is a representation of the amount of latency in the data transmission between one device and another.
In this particular case, between your PC and the PWI server.
With PWI, the relationship of the Ping measurement varies.
1. Login server ping. This is the ping value that you see in the server selection screen. It's a valid one-way measurement.
2. In-game ping. This is a round-trip ping. It's going from your client, to the server, and then back to your client. It's additionally exaggerated by possible delays on the data for the reverse ping information to be sent to your client from the server. To put it simply, it's usually wrong. It can also be rendered completely incorrect by your CPU and it's load, and also your available memory pool. Why they ever implemented it in this fashion completely baffles me. It's okay for a roundabout measurement, but it isn't anything you'd want to rely on for actual data monitoring. Also things like server activity, the population of the area you're in, and how much impact the graphics being displayed have will exacerbate the number even more.
Now, I'll give an example...
1 Login Server Ping. I'm currently averaging 70ms to the West coast servers, 31ms to the East coast, and 109ms to Morai.
2 In-game Ping. I'm currently averaging 286ms to the West coast servers, 436ms to the East coast, and 387ms to Morai.
3. My traceroute to Sanctuary
While taking these readings, i got a perfect example.
I got a lag spike in Sanctuary that drove right up into the 900ms range, and I caught it in the below trace...\PWI\PWI~Files>tracert -h 16 pwigc2.perfectworld.com
Tracing route to pwigc2.perfectworld.com [64.74.134.50]
over a maximum of 16 hops:

5 * * * Request timed out. Problem
6 * * * Request timed out. Problem Probably the Colorado hub. It is common for having issues in my route.

11 * * * Request timed out. PWE's ISP, you're not going to get any responses past here for security reasons.
Notice how the overall path is pretty good? My end is clean. PWE's end is clean. That's actually not too bad for prime time from Michigan to Jan Jose California.
Had a spike in the ping, and can additionally definitively prove that it's neither my PC, nor the server. Also, anyone else whose data traveled this rout, through that problem area, at the same time it was dropping packets, would have gotten a similar lag spike.
Once again I will state, Put up or shut up. Seriously. If you have an issue and want someone to help you fix it, provide the appropriate data. If you are just going to QQ and blame the servers, go whine somewhere else. There's plenty of people here that would love to help, assuming you bother to give them something to work with.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

HI There My name is Tsamaris and i would love to comment on ur stuff above. U may be right about the information that like traffic it does have its down time in which both parties are not at fault or Maybey u may be wrong and there is a probloem with the server slash the personal computer. Given an example my wiife plays pwi and she from the old and she has no problems playing the game and she will usually be in the green or yellow tyhen there are time where she runs in the red ping and she is forced to no play or stay still till the green ping is back to play time,, recently she been in the red alot and she can not play for either hours. and my wife computer has passed every test that i put it thru from the video card to the Testing of the Hard drive and we have a booster that saloows more traffic in and out faster then a normal modem and Router. So in conclussion my wife computer is great. Now this has happen in the past with many ppl including my wife. and thru patches it get rectified and the ping does not come back to another update come in and she goes in the red some is little in time like 15 min and then some is hours or to where she not able to play . My hunch as u would say it is the stops or known as drop due to weather etc that may be causeing thhis problem or it may be the server is at time loaded to the max with ppl and that caused the red ping to come to light when people play the game like my Wife Toon Name Selena. But to be rude in saying what u said was and is very rude u need to learn compassion and humbleness when people ask a question i think u need to relook at what u say and how u say things this is a game of having fun and asking questions that may need attention to the fullest or people just want to know.

I had the same problem. Unplugged router for 2 minutes and BAM! Haven't lagged anymore yet.0

I'm also having problems with huge lag spikes, like I've never had before (15k-20k ping). Other contacts from the same region (South America) have reported the same issue. It started after the last big update (with the new server), we all play in Dreamweaver. Normal lag was around 100-400 ping. Any other online game/activity remains normal. b:surrender0

Read post 2, then read post 9 for an example. Collect your data, and then post something useful.
Though I do have to say....
"Other contacts from the same region (South America) have reported the same issue."
This is a clear indication of a regional router issue between where you are and the server.
Also, a ping of 100-400 from where you are to New York, isn't that bad at all.0 -
maybe you shoud read wc right now, server is dc all the time on morai, peeps, are all complaining about it in wc.b:surrender0
