A few years ago, I made a post on how I used to play this game and it ruined my social life, and hindered my academic progress.
It did!!!
But now I'm 19 have made it into a prestigious University (not saying) somewhere in Sydney, and working a casual job which pays 22/hour (I live in Australia pay is much higher).
So I make this post again, for all those young fellas.
This is just a game, limit your play time to 1 hour a day.
Trust me you will regret using your time on this game.
It is the same as doing drugs to be honest.

I was 19, 11 years ago.. As I don't really have any advice to give to you younger folks as far playing online games because it isn't necessary. People who are adamant about getting somewhere in life, while still a teen, is not going to let a game take over their life any way.
Most of what you experience in MMOs has largely to do with others.. and these are situations you'll encounter even offline. In essence, it is part of your life.0 -

This is something that belongs more in Off-Topic.
And as to your point itself.... it's not needed to restrict the game to an hour. You just have to be reasonable with it and not put the game above real life issues such as school/work and the like.
ANYTHING can become bad when not done in moderation. It's just a case of learning where that point is.(Insert fancy image here)

Games designed for people who likes games not for destroying there social life.
It can destroy your social life as much as watching TV or playing musical instrument.
Comparing games with drags indicates your lack of self control. Or may be the fact that 4 years ago you were only 15 and I believe this game is for 18+
Having said that, I'm looking forward to read about your achievements and how much you earn few years later on the PWI forum.

personally i regret wasting my time on university.
I did it, got my degree, started to work. Got depressed by the idea that i was gonna be working 9 to 5 for the rest of my life. Then decided to hell with it all. I'd do what i frickin want to do and make it work. That was almost 10 years ago and the best decision i made in life so far.
Like many friends of mine, i travel around the world much of the year and indeed do what i want. You can make anything work if you believe in it, in yourself and you do it because it is your passion. You can give diving lessons anywhere in the world where there is water, you give showboard lessons where there are mountains. You can sell food at festivals, you can organise festivals. You can work in the tourist industry and make traveling your living. you can start a hotel/hostel in any nice and sunny country when youre ready to settle down and stop moving. Just a few of the examples that are the most important ones for me and my friends. Without a doubt, theres many more options that might fit your personal interests and passions. Oh i didnt even list online poker which made me a very good living for several years, but the hype is over anyway, no need to start doing that now
Sorry, while you are right that gaming is a terrible addiction. (i have used every drug on the planet but am addicted only to gaming and coca cola) I just dont like the preachiness of your thread. Look, go to university, get a degree, do what is expected of you !

Last fall I took a 6 week break from the game and nothing in my life got better. The extra time wasn't used on curing cancer or helping the homeless or anything useful. So I decided the game doesn't hurt me. I think anyone worried about how much they play should take a long break and see what happens.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

I continued to play through my final 2 years into my GCSE practices, and saw that my grades actually ROSE because I was finally being positive! I was on E/D grades beforehand, and then, after a short break -and the decision to live with my dad- to really knuckle down (popping in from time to time to see how things were), I left school with thirteen GCSE's. 11 of them were C grade, and 2 were A-Stars.
The psychologists said I couldn't make it through main school. I proved them wrong. I'm 18 this year (began playing when i just turned 14), and if it wasn't for the escapism to this game that kept me sane, I honestly think I wouldn't be here. I now have a wonderful boyfriend, and am now about to go into my 2nd year of a BTEC diploma in Graphic design ^_^ And next year, I am studying music before going into album art. My college life is great, and I have a great social life now. I'm also getting busy with taekwondo![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]<3 by Silvy

Saying the game ruins your life removes the responsibility from a person for moderating themselves. It's the same as saying alcohol ruins a person's life. No, deciding to drink a bottle of vodka nightly ruined your life, but that came from you, not the vodka. Deciding to play instead of socializing or doing work came from you, not the game. I play the game but I also hang out with friends daily, do yoga four or five times a week, run and swim pretty regularly, and maintain an A- average studying physics.
It's like the gambling commercials, know your limit, play within it.
And if you do see that you haven't talked to your friends in a couple days, or that you're using the game as an alternative to socializing with "real" people (IE people you can see without the benefit of your computer, I realize everyone on here is real, minus sweetiebot, and do in fact consider some of them my friends) maybe look at that as a red flag. I would also encourage anyone in that situation rather than just going cold turkey and thinking that will solve all problems to look at the bigger picture and ask themselves why it is that they felt they needed to spend so much time on a game and avoid reality.xSonOfCircex-105/103/102 Sage Wiz
