......and realized that unless you have oodles of Zen/in-game coin, and/or have a high end guild that can help you out, you're not going to make ANY progress if you've been gone for a year or more.

*sniff*.....*sniff*.....I smell the forum trolls circling the wagons already, but anyways, wondering if anyone's got any advice on how to get started back up after a long layoff so I no longer have a guild, most are recruiting lv 90+ so no-go there, no coin to really speak of, etc.

Herb farming is probably the cheapest way to earn money. It doesn't require any start up cash, and just need to be level 90+ to enter sage/demon world. You can do it any time you want, for as long as you can. And there will be fewer competitions during 2x. It is not the most profitable thing to do, but it is a start.

You can even dual client with this, have 1 staying at an area that is rather safe and mainly use the other one to run around between spawn area. b:surrender

Well, what server are you on? There /are/ factions that have no, or lower level restrictions.

O.o What are you talking about? There are still people who continue to play the game without joining these "High-End" factions with "oodles" of coin/gold. As TPStar mentioned, herb gathering or low mat gathering is one of the easiest ways to make money, sure its minimal because of the demand but it still coin you didn't have before. AND, as TigerGut pointed out, get the new dreamchaser pack which provides you with powerful gear/rings/weapons/mount/flyer as you progress. Think of it as a golden Supply Chest that gives you great stuff as you go along. Everything binds, but its better than the quest/npc gear you normally would have gotten.

As for factions, there are still plenty of factions who adopt people with the same motive to keep with the heart of the game by questing together and encouraging each other to better themselves in game without threatening to kick because of weaker gears.

Quests give a bit more coin, maybe not as much as you are hoping for but it still something to keep you afloat. Don't have enough for teles, fly!

Again there are people who find their way who ARENT CSers (myself included). So the game isn't dead, lower levels are getting benefits with Lucidsilver/gold level up chests so you can go from 5-20 if you are lucky to get Fantasy Fruits, so you are never working so hard as people did before all the goodies.

Don't let all what you hear through forums ruin coming back; you wanna play, you play. Simple as that!

Thank you for the replies everyone! I'm on Heaven's Tear server. Used to be in the TW guild aftrmath, but after a long hiatus because of school I came back and no one I knew there plays anymore.

I only have a lv 34 Wizard, so farming at lv 90 will have to wait until I can grind my way to the top I guess.

Tiger - Thank you for the code!!.......ummmm.......I hate to sound like a total noob, but........how do I use the code? b:embarrass

Just for Wizard's skills you will need to pay about 55 millions coins.

Can someone calculate how many herbs he need to sell ?

    Err ... 55,000,000/1,000 =55,000 (if 1 herb cost 1,000).

    or

    55,000,000/10,000 =5,500 (if 1 herb cost 10,000).

    Wonderful !!!

Lets go to earn coins using this method.

Its tough at first if you are getting back into the game. ESPECIALLY with lower level toons. But, once you break level 21, you get access to the new Bounty Order Quests. Which gives a decent amount of coin based on your level.

This is probably the best answer... If your character is between lvl 20 and 80 you can do 7 quests daily which will award you with plenty of coin (72k each quest on my 65 Mystic)... It should really make up for the nerfed DQ drop prices... b:victory

I can tell you ive experienced this, i just returned yesterday and im still learning about all the content since i left about a year ago. i've managed to level to 28 quickly with quest, questmaster and lucidsilver rewards. Returning it feels like i have to learn everything all over again.

Ok I'll go find the Jolly Quest NPC and start those today.

As for the herb farming, does it matter WHAT herbs I farm?

I figure even though herbs won't provide much int he way of coin, it's coin earned that I didn't have before, so I won't look a gift horse in the mouth.

Thanks again everyone for all the great feedback!

Not sure about your server, but on RT, people always looking for compound oil, compound thread, and rough fur, as well as hay, all dropped from mobs for the level 25 to 40 crowd. Farm the **** out of mobs that drop them, and if close to 40, put your xp into your genie, then have mobs kill you so your xp drops so you don't level, as the drop ratio decreases. Check catshops for buy/sell prices.

Be patient and check wc often. Lowbie factions are out there, and from what Ive seen in sanctuary after being out(again) for a 2 months, new factions are still being created like no tomorrow. And people still help with cultis and quests.

    Ok sounds good.

Only other thing I have to do is sort through the plethora of mechanics to the game again, since I've forgotten basically how to play lol. I think I might start up a new toon and run through a dozen lvs or so then come back to my Wizard once I get the hang of everything again.

Oh, and BTW: For the Jolly Old Jones Bounty quests, where exactly is he?

Couple of things that i would suggest doing.

    http://pwi.perfectworld.com/facebook

Link your game account with facebook, gives you a nice Boost ( 30 % more damage ) or 15 % and 15% def

    http://pwi.perfectworld.com/redeem

On PWI facebook page, there will be a code you can find to Redeem a Dreamchaser starter kit.
    - this Kit has pretty much everything you need from 1 - 40 lvls - Flyer , Pets , Weps , Armors Pots , Charms, Necklace, rings.
Grab one it is well worth it.

Once you log in, on a lower lvl character there will be a pop up for a Blue quest. this quest gives you Daily charms ( hp and mp ones) up to lvl 60. this will help with the running cost of your new character. It is located in the Main starter citys.

Also, to get you up and running with coins there is a Jolly Old Jones quest ( you spawn next to him on a new character ) available from 60 - 80 lvls -gives around 500k coins per day.
There is also one that is avaiable from lvl 20 - 60 - via an NPC in the main starter Citys, look for a Blue quest again.

Fire through your quest, this will get you up to lvl 20 in no time.
I would suggest you Sell to npc any Fantasy Fruit bags you get. since they give too much exp and you will overwhelmed with quests to do.

Last but not least, going through quests is now rewarded by PWI quest master.
Fashion / charms / pots, you name it, this guy gives it. ( NPC is in main starter citys )
    http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/npc/34219

if you follow it daily, you will have plenty of coins and items to keep you going,
also a tip for more coins, farm Manufactor Materials and sell them to catshops in Archo- Main city.

Hmm when i started..you know back in the day when people actually farmed mid materials, high materials for crafting or wine making, the times when farm routes were over ran by people gathering mats for wine for their daily bh journey or fb wine.I would farm till i saw the routes in my eye lids,at lvl 40 farm the mid materials(mid mats),lvl 60 go up north and farm High mats, less competition now and mats galore, few cat shops are set up in buying/selling them,so selling them should turn a profit, because people like me buy the stuff to make stuff to sell stuff.

Also as for herbs, the lvl 89 herbs in hell or heaven...you dont even have to enter heaven.Just plant a store outside of the heaven and hell doors and buy a tad higher than the apoth catshops, and then go sell in west by the apoth a tad lower than the rest of the stores around..i have had plenty of sell outs real quick selling devilwood, tuplips, scented fungus, tiery herb, longen herb, white berrys,1 mill or less in purchases can make you 2 mill, depending on how many you bout and how much you sellem for.

Even sellin junk **** can turn a profit at times.
This game is like washing hair with shampoo... Rinse and repeat if desired.
Proud owner of many mains.101 bm,101 seeker,101 demon sin,100 sage sin,101 archer,101 barb,100 cleric,100 wiz( first toon since sept 08 finally made it in 2013)newly added mystic 100 HA,72 psy.

    One more question: Flyers.

Should I worry about the (painfully slow) speed of my starter flyer? Do you guys recommend buying a CS flyer or saving up coin and buying one from a player?

It's so bad atm I can click on a destination and go afk for lunch and I'm STILL in flight lol.

**EDIT**: Thanks Tiger for the Earthguard tip (forgot to start it last night lol).

Depends on how patient you are... You could just use the free basic flying for the rest of your in-game life if you'd like... But if it's too slow for you, you might wanna upgrade to a better one eventually... They also look prettier most of the time... If you don't want to spend $$ on a flyer, you can either just buy one from another player once you have enough coin, or you can save up enough Dragon Points(50,000) to get the Sage/Demon Even card, which gives you 50 Event Gold, and buy one from the Event Boutique... b:victory

Oh, and if you're an Elf using the white wings you get from the start... You'll be able to learn a passive skill for those through which you can upgrade your flying speed to 2.0 at lvl 10... They're actually pretty good wings even at higher lvles... This only works for those white Elven wings though... And they might be inconvenient to use at times for an archer as those wings consume MP while being used (you won't notice much of this on a Cleric)...

A boutique flyer is a luxury you can put off, I wouldn't worry about it if you're scraping for coin. You will eventually have enough DQ points from NPCing DQs (yes, even the near-worthless ones) to get a couple sage/demon event cards and get a 2.0 flyer from the event boutique.

i came back to PWI from Star Trek Online just because there are still massive lags (server not responding .. up to 60 secs) and i do jolly old jones dailies for some coins . Just bought the Mold: Misty Forest Ring from the npc in Thousand Streams for a total of 710k (this ring was spotted in cat shops for about 2-2.5 mil) . Money are saved from the Jolly old Jones Dailies, you need to be 21-80 lvl and its character lvl range restricted on account.

In Star Trek Online is much much easier to farm and make coins even being logged out with duty officers missions. The only problem there is the lag and server disconnects.

I dont take PWI seriously (to be hardcore player anymore) bcuz the prices on gear is insanly high and harder to get than 4 years ago. Saw a barb lvl 78 trying to tank Eyes of Krimson , died 3 times and when i saw his gear , he was wearing lvl 50 stuff :( ..as a main char..

play it hard while its 2x event active :)
    some hints:
    * have 2 alts with a higher lvl rank each other but using same armor type , AA , LA or HA and when you level to next rank send your armor to your lower char to wear it, on this way you'll save coins in time .

    * have a veno to save pots to send them by mail to your cleric.

    * learn crafting only on 1 toon and max it. If you have a farming char for instances use it for craft or decompose.

    * while 2x event is active join to BHs and TT runs as much as you can. If you don't wanna lvl your toon , spend exp on genies and decompose them.

    * save the dropped ammo for your archer if you have one.

    * there are new treasure bosses which are spawning outside the main cities, go for it and kill those beasts :) it worth it.
    ~ 8pm plume
    ~4pm tellus
~12 o clock city of lost
    ~1-2 am archo
    ~3-4 am south archo
(note these might not be so accurate , and are according to the server time.. to see server time just select Server Status to see the time , also some of them are announced in the red system channel)

    * lvl up your cleric , clerics were , are and still will be the most wanted in everything, bh,tt, delta, lunar, etc , you will have the chance to get many runs, save coins and buy/craft a good gear.

    * do your dailies jolly old jones quests on the highest char first.

    * every day when the server time is 8pm or 9pm visit lucidsilver or lucidgold npc in main cities for online time reward such as exp, timed fashion, small charms..

    * search for rewarding divine quests - blue or purple with a divine order to craft your free mana,hp free food.
