Gold Chain: Essences?

Im at a part in the gold chain were I need to dig up 3 stones. For some odd reason I cant dig them. Any suggestions on how I can get them & yes I have a pickaxe.

    thats prolly the quest into the fray for that quest you need to kill 3 bosses in aeu
