Archer Blues;)

Hey so I returned to the game a few months ago...and been playing my various toons. I want to like my archer but I am struggling....I am still L99 and sorta under geared....currently sharing L99 LA bracers and feet with bm, energetic cape, blah blah with my bm. I actually do better in NW on my cleric averaging 100 to 130 tokens. This weekend I tried to get into my archer again and I went through 100's of crab because I die so much in NW. I try to attack psychics and I kill myself on their shield (commit suicide or let them kill me does not seem like I have much choice). In PvE I feel very limited...since I get penalized if things get close...i could go APS but I cant use bp so why not be a sin, bm or barb? Honestly, I remember archer being fun in PvP but I also remember the PvE aspects as one of the reasons I quite the first time. If I spend my free time (3 hours a night or so) sitting, staring at the screen doing nothing I really realize how much of a time sink this game can be:)
Anyone got some positive light they can share to help me see why I should be trying to play archer?

problems with melee PvE mobs? Wingspan > Knockback > Stun. Or you can use your metal skills.0

I find flying in NW to help reduce deaths. It also reduces your damage output.
The Morai leaps work in mid-air.0 -
Archers tend to be squishy in NW unless you have fairly high-end gear (and even then, they focus more on attack than defense for obvious reasons). If you want a class with a small barrier-to-entry in NW, you want a barb. My barb earns roughly twice as many tokens as my archer with similar gear, just by tanking a ton of damage.
So I guess the question is, what other classes do you have access to? You mentioned archer, cleric, and bm only. :P
As for PVE, a number of skills can help you deal with mobs that reach melee range. As Elena mentioned, getting the morai leap skills from Corona can be really helpful... combine them with control skills like stun and aim low and you can kite more effectively. You can deal with a little melee damage better if you use winged shell / wings of grace, and as stated, there's always your metal skills and wingspan. If all else fails, stealth (if you learned it from Shroud). In instances, this usually results in the mob attacking the next person to have aggro (usually the tank). In single-mob grinding you can always use aim low on a mob that's trying to reset itself; a freeze state prevents mobs from resetting, for whatever reason.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

Thanks all.....I will try to answer the responses. I don't really have any other characters and I have not really gotten any of the morai skills. i stopped playing for about 2years so what I have is mostly 2 years old. I do good on my cleric, the few times I did NW on cleric I got 200, 89 and 100 something tokens. The person that mentioned how archers are squishy unless they are highly refined sorta hit the nail on the head. All I read about is how archers are awesome, but everyone also instantly starts talking about rank 9 and even recast 9!! I will not be investing 1000 in PWI or even honestly 100's. I buy abit of zen now and then, but that is about it.
I joined a TW faction and the archer is their toon of choice, I just am struggling to get back into the toon because on day to day stuff I think the bm and/or cleric is more in demand. I can pretty much pick and choose what I do on cleric.....If I am going to play for a few hours a day....and slowly farm gear, I think I would like it to be on a toon that is useful more often than during a few PvP events...I have been reminded of why i quite when I tried to get into a fc squad and I was told.....oh, your an archer....we are full. I tried making my own squad but honestly people are lazy and don't wanna do them...they want to pay for the experience room.0 -
Frankly a Sage cleric is very nice for Nw.
When you die, you are given enough spark so that after rebuffing yourself and using the sage chi gain skill, You are all ready for a tempest. Tempest followed by razor feathers in groups will net you some points with even a low refined weapon.
Additionally healing the flag person or other super refined op players who are killing for you. If you can shadow one of the major players they will keeep stuff dead while you consta ih them. Since they will take dmg that you heal you will get points.
One other nice thing about cleric are that they regen magic fast and don't really require healing pots. Heck, half the time I wouldn't even bother charming my cleric. They are just low cost for operating in nw and still able to get plenty of points.0 -
Archers are amazing. Just anymore, you need top end gear, g16/r9 is pretty much becoming a standard among archers. A lot of people just roll sins, and share their gear with their archer to make a decent one. If you are looking for points as a now kinda thing for NW, barb, if you can afford the charm costs, or a cleric would prob be your best bets. Can slowly fund your archer that way if you like.Archer Build:

Then again, you're on Arch server and I'm not sure how competitive the PVP is there. You may get by with all kinds of different gears. My point is, take everybody with a grain of salt. There's a lot of undue peer pressure in this game.
