You know when your toon icon starts flashing red it means your in battle right? Well i had a 90bm tell me (86 archer) to watch my agro. I thought it kinda funny cuz if your hitting with no skills then its kinda hard to lower your dmg.

Anyways he told me that the flashing red on my name indicates agro. That it gets brighter and faster the more agro you have? I always thought i just means your in battle. I been here since beta and i never heard such a thing. Has something changed with it?

Confused....

Not sure what that person is talking about, but there's no way (currently) to "watch your aggro."

That is a nice idea though.

That person has no clue what they're talking about. The flashing is only an indication of being in combat state.

And if you want to lower your damage as an archer and are currently auto-attacking, skill spam. Normal attacks have always led to an archer's highest DPS. Performing deadly shot -> a fully charged take aim -> the two DoTs -> repeat, on the other hand, is abysmal damage in comparison due to how long it takes and will, while showing bigger numbers on the hits themselves, actually lower your damage a good deal. Just don't do that sparked or during a HF or the higher DPH (especially if you crit) may wind up making up for that and getting you aggro anyways.

Uhh.. archers deal more damage with normal attacks than with skills.

I used to die a little on the inside when I was in squad with a skill spamming archer and they told me it was because they wanted to do most damage or when someone would tell me on my archer to stop using skills so I wouldn't take aggro.

Now I just laugh at it all because I've mostly given up on trying to educate most of these people.

And on a side note, time to drag this to archer forums because... and stuff!

Of course you can't "watch" your aggro. Obvious derp.

    You can...

    Remove Rings
    Switch Arrows
    Pause attacking
    Remove Tomes/Blessings

There are a whole bunch of things you can actually do to manage your aggro. Or if you just wish to be silly and argue semantics, then by all means continue the stupidity. b:pleased

And if your designated tank is horrible even doing all that won't help you at times.

Besides, you're the one arguing semantics considering it was fairly obvious he meant literally watching aggro in a manner similar to what OP mentioned. As in there being some indication of how much threat level you have somewhere outside of the boss suddenly turning towards you and trying to bite your head off.

Lol, low level days, before aps and fishies, i always pulled aggro. I would pause attacking and watch them rage at me after barb complained that i was pulling from him. Back in those days, a good number of people actually were in pk mode, so when i got upset enough, i would drop squad and show them how hard it was for me to control damageb:laugh

I suggest setting up a macro of mixed non aoe no chi required skills that repeats to use for not holding aggro. This macro also works well in trials, the only place where using skills as an archer actually makes sense

What I do to avoid pulling aggro, at bosses at least, is hit 3 times and pause then hit 3 times and pause. Works just fine that way even if tank has low refines on weapon. You don't have to drive yourself crazy by removing any gear lol.

I got tired of watching my aggro recently, so i just spark bloodvow in bh abba and seat, seat especially, and pull the boss, and die, rez, die again normally before boss is dead cause of that 1 shot skill.

Honestly, i like having aggro now, its funny
