I entered from North Arch while dual clienting without lowering any settings. My pc is ****, having barely 2gb ram, and yet I experienced no lag on both Friday and Sunday. Some people were crashing/dcing like crazy. :c Seems like it's different for everyone.

I heard this may be a problem with Windows 7 closing the client when it gets to be too much, especially teleing into instances. I use XP, so when my client gets to be too much, I just lagdeath for a bit, but it doesn't crash to desktop.

I try to turn my graphics down to minimum, turn on best performance, and put effects to zero before entering. Once inside at the nation base, turning stuff back up was fine since everyone was in stealth and there was no one else to load.

Entered at Lost this time, obnoxious people were BBing and spaming buffs and skills right before NW opened to lag people out.

I have a theory on why this happens, and I think I solved the issue.

The client can only go up to 2 gb before it finally gives out and crashes. The actual amount may vary (a friend of mine was reporting around 1.7 - 1.8).

On sunday right before nw, I was experiencing these crashes as well and after thinking about it and being fed up with it, I went with a a solution I used for a different game.

It's called the 4gb patch. (edited)

The patch is an exe that has to edit the elementclient.exe, but it's harmless and does not affect how the game works or anything. It's a one time patch that allows the client to reach 4gb instead of 2gb. The website explains it a bit more in detail why certain programs do this.

After using the patch I haven't experienced any crashes at all.
I was able to stand in the massive group of people for nw right before it opened with the highest settings on.

I haven't fully tested this out against a normal exe but only because I find it hard to get the client to crash when I want it to.
I'd appreciate it if you guys try this out and report back to me if you notice any improvements.

I think I'll test this once I get home today :)

Personally, with the x64/x86 transmission I think some executables (for i.e the client) are "lagging behind"... Which is normal nowadays, since x64 thread programming requires more time then x86 programming with 1 block - executable.

You'll also have to run that patch every time elementclient.exe gets updated... And some butthurt GM/Mod will probably come here and say 'hurr client mods' but w/e it fixes it and I know Wanmei will never do anything about it.

I'll just make a thread dedicated to it and bump it for every exe update.

I'm sure it would be overlooked if a lot of people report noticable benefits.

I haven't crashed yet, but I will use this patch because the last thing I want is to miss nation wars.

I approve this, been crashing like mad in a long time.. so always been running minimum distance a while now and terrian/texture down - still being able to crash if not very carefull before even hitting 1.6GB of ram usage.

So I tested this, and trying to make myself crash this evening with this thing.. And it seems impossible. everything maxed 1920*1080 for hours in west/south and afk'ing there.

made it to use 2GB and 17mb of ram, unable to get fps lower than 7, usually when i've been hitting 1,5-1,6GB mark = error signs in red on npc/items, or 1-3 fps a little time then crash - i cant now.

    - i'm getting close to 2,1GB of ram usage on pwi as im typing this btw.

    Thanks alot bubbles.

I see. So it wasn't a placebo effect.

A friend of mine and I were able to get around 2.5 gb right before nw started. PWI didn't seem to go higher than that. I'll guess I'll make a thread on this.

i would suggest making a backup of the .exe before patching just incase when applying a new patch, there are negative effects. making a copy of the exe and puting it back before patching is a much smaller headache than downloading the game again.
