Skill to keep at level 10? Not go lvl 11.

A week or so ago I came across the thread of someone asking what veno skills to max and what skills are "unimportant." All I can remember is someone pointing out many venos keep some skill at level 10 because.... of some reason. I think it was Desdi or Phoenix_Eye that posted.

Anyways, been going through the first three pages of the veno forums thread by thread and can't seem to find it so thought I'd make a quick post. What skills do you think are best left not fully leveled and why?

    The skill they were probably talking about is demon ironwood, which removes the 100% chance to cast a 30% armor break and replaces it with a 20% chance to cast 100% armor break, 80% chance to just cause damage with no debuff like lvl10 has. While 100% debuff is nice, the 20% chance makes it much less useful than level 10 unless you constantly squad with a barb that uses devour.

    Yeah, it was definitely about Demon Ironwood Scarab. I remember writing about it myself like you mentioned.
    I've already came across a few Venomancers who preferred to keep it at lvl10 and I think that's just fine.


    I suppose the few skills that are not so worth leveling would be these (in my opinion);

    Sage Frost Scarab - because it costs one spark and I generally don't see Venomancers using it unless it's Demon because it has the freeze effect. (Although this skill is being updated in the expansion so we have yet to see how it will effect gameplay).

    Sage Crush Vigor - I actually don't know how much Venomancers use this in PvP but as far as PvE is concerned, it's useless.

    Sage Purge - useless only if the Venomancer is PvE-only. Otherwise it's a must-get.

    Sage/Demon Consume Spirit - honestly, I don't think any Venomancer leveled that skill past 1.

    Sage/Demon Malefic Crush - this one depends; lvl10 has a bugged cooldown (6sec instead of 30sec), I was convinced to keep mine at lvl10 because of that.

    Demon Soul Degeneration - because..well it's kinda useless. Although I did learn the Demon version but I wouldn't recommend it. I guess it helps Barbarians? Still not much use though.

    Demon Ironwood Scarab - it depends...I don't consider it too bad since Barbarians, Clerics also Mystics and Blademasters (and pets) have a physical debuff (and I see my debuff being overwritten often) but it is bad for normal Nirvana and perhaps solo'ing (for the tank pet). I wouldn't base my choice on a single instance though.

    This was it! Thank You. I knew it was mp cost or cast time or cooldown or something but couldn't remember the skill and couldn't find it in a post, so I was searching ecatomb for inconsistencies but ecatomb has lvl 10 and lvl 11 listed as 30 seconds.

    No, I knew this one and the other ones listed. People ask me if they should level it and I leave it up to them. My personal suggestion is level it. I'm sage, if I were demon I'd recommend the same. I avoid using "tank" pets nowadays anyways and make room for Pierce on my pets just incase I get stuck in fox form and my ironwood/myriads wear off.

    Here is my thinking->myriad human, myriad fox, demon ironwood. Not sure on proc rates of myriads but between the three there is a decently high chance one will proc. Cooldowns are also short enough so they're almost spammable if all 3 fail. Also, as a demon plan it to either overwrite or not overwrite a cleric/barb debuff. What I mean by this is cast after a devour so that it overwrites if it procs. If it doesn't proc it then the devour stays anyways, but if it does you've jumped to 100% pdef debuff. If nothing else works, use Pierce (or use Pierce then overwrite like it was another classes debuff). Tell your squad you're demon, also. I'll avoid pdef debuffing expecting my veno to do it until I notice a demon genie, then I'll gladly do it and just watch for their procs. Lvl 11 also makes the situation of casting myriad, proccing, and then casting ironwood in a bonehead move non existant since you won't overwrite.

    Lastly, Ironwood is a spammable killing skill for grinding mobs. You want it higher for damage regardless of the debuff.

    Oh I totally thought it was about Ironwood, probably because of Jeremied's post but now that I think about it...I did post something related to Malefic Crush indeed. It must have been one of Ripokeke's threads. b:chuckle


    And I agree on what you said about the damage increase. I think the damage increase alone is enough of a reason to upgrade the attack skills.

    I will have to honestly say the damage from demon ironwood is definately worth it. 10 seconds of 0 phys resistance is amazing! I hit a veno with it in a tw and the skill activated... her health went from 100% to 0% in 3 hits from my nix... my nix was dealing something like 2k per hit... Loved my demon ironwood :3 oh and even in pve it was wonderful, seeing my herc do 10k damage when i got amp+demon HF+demon ironwood all on one boss... it maked me drool a bit xD

    at the end of the day... idc if i'm "pro" or have the best gear... cause i know i'm an awesome veno cause i pour my heart into my character and give her life <3
