Issue: Customization not saved in .ini folder

Hello all,

I have been seriously annoyed by this issue for hours and I cannot solve it... (yes, 'I have fallen and I cannot get up'... please get serious. b:surrender)

To make it simple, I have been interested in putting Earthguard eye type on my Tideborn, given the new rules regarding customization (and yes yes, I do know how to .ini edit).

First of all, I used a save of my character customization (you never know when you have to format all, right?) and put it in the corresponding folder. It worked well, but once in game, it's not recognized... The saved preset window does not refresh at all.

I tried to edit the 'character71.ini' file (psychic) and got the same conclusion. Same for the 51 one (assassin).

Saving in game, via the cosmetic master or the 'create' option did add a new line to the saved presets, but the change is not written to the folder (I don't get an .ini file out of this).

It's like if the physical .ini files and the in-game save presets were separated and it only is valid for the Tideborn... I have no trouble in any form for the other classes.

P.S.: Already sent a ticket about it... But more troubleshooting help, as well as discussion with people encountering the same issue is always welcome.

Hmm, there shouldn't be any preset files named 'character71' or similar, unless you named it that yourself. You may not be poking around in the correct files.

What's your folder route? Like, how did you get to the folder that you're finding the files you're trying to edit in?

The folders that hold the .ini files you're looking for look like this.

If there's anything else other than these 20 folders in your customize folder, you're not in the right place.

By chance, are you running the client while you alter the file? If so, try closing the client completely first and then deal with the file.

Otherwise, you could considered creating a new preset and giving it an easily recognized name (IE: fishissosmelly). Then let your computer search to see if it's in a different directory and move your files to the one it's in after closing the client.

To Jeremied: Don't worry my friend, I do know all about the customize folder (I use the customize1 folder) and the corresponding numbers to each class.

My only trouble there is that the game does not accept .ini files and this only for the Tideborn race. Trying to create an .ini file for them is impossible right now too, even if it worked before (since I have a backup file of my customization).

Thanks for the fast reply as well.... I use that technique too (apply file and log-in after, or apply while still being logged in, but by refreshing the presets window -and not confirm changes to not waste a makeover scroll-). This is how I discovered .ini editing in the first place but I never used it in game, except for backup motives.

Using precise names for the .ini files sure is useful too.

I've never poked around in the customize1 folder. Have you checked to see if it's saving in the customize folder instead?

I'll test your ini on my client in a moment to see if it's a problem with that or your system.

It does save in there for me.
I tried the customize folder too, even the 'character.ini' files... (the latter defines by default the character for each class... isn't it neat?).

And I do think it's due to the PWI client... I still wonder why it is this precise part of it that is concerned, but hey.

As far as I know, you have to use the customise folder. ._. If not, try pasting this into your ini (changed the texture to male + moved the thirdeyeid to the first line):

Thanks for trying, but no matter what I try, the PWI client won't recognize my .ini files, and this for the Tideborn only (other races are fine).

And yes, I did use the template of my Earthguard to get the eye values.

Tried... it did not work indeed.

This is a pretty strange issue. Just to be clear you are trying to get ini files to save into the folder being pointed at, correct? And not trying to edit the list of files circled?

edit: Is this a female you're trying to give earthguard eyes too? If not then the code 1117 doesn't work, it needs to be 1046. Which may be the issue.

Edit 2:

71 isn't the folder for tideborn females. 21 is female psychics. 51 is female assassins.

Just checked it out, you messed up your eye settings. I can try to fix it without damaging the ini.

edit: not only the eyes are messed up, there seem to be some errors scattered throughout the whole file O_O

His ini loaded fine on my client (tested on psy). I think he's just having issues with where the files are going.

On mine was getting an error until I edited most of his settings out. O_O And I put it in the usual folder.

I never move files directly when I'm messing with the client. If I need to copy something, I just save a new preset right from the game. Then I copied the codes from his post directly into the new preset. It saves a lot of derp ups with the client. b:chuckle

To all: Correct, the intended result is what VenusArmani got.
To Jeremied: Windows Vista SP2.

I was wondering if it was all due to the fact I use an alt account for the rest of my characters... I must have myself got confused with the fact that the original races have numbers 0x, 1x, 3x (curiously, 6x is for archers)... Maybe the numbers were swapped with patches, so I lost my mind trying to find the answer.

I did use backups then... so I know where to put my files... then I saved the data in a text, as in putting the numbers next to my characters' names... and since I know each name is of each class...

I'll use your posts to discover the proper logic to apply the proper settings (most probably find the right folder -21 instead of 71, huh?- and maybe some ini changes so I don't get a fatal error if needs be.

Edit: I was indeed wrong in the .ini folder for psychic and finally made it working.

By critical error, do you mean "Customization data error"? Odd, is there any difference between the ini you posted here on this forum and the edits you're making in your files?

No worries my friend, it's all solved, somehow, much thanks again... I am not sure how it went, but I -finally!!- got a hold of the correct values. I took the file, copied it and put it into backup. I also changed my text file so I don't put the .ini file in the wrong folder again in the future. b:thanks
