Recently hitting 40s, and the awesome goshiki quest chain bringing me closer and closer to 50- I've been using fists more often than axes.
I don't have that great of gear, mostly quest, and npc gear - so I don't like to gather mobs to aoe since I'll be risking death and using a lot of potions. I switch to fists and use 1-2 hp potions here and there for around 10-20 mobs (because of sutra).

Am I doing it right? All the skills that are becoming available are all aoes... yet I am not utilizing them when doing quests.

    If using fists and killing mobs one at a time is a pace that seems safe to you, then there's nothing wrong with that. If you don't have that great of gear, then yes, killing AoE probably would end up costing far too much to be practical.

    However, I think it's always nice to have a pair of axes handy for stunning in case I get ganged by mobs. Usually BMs will switch to fists after level 29 when they get diamond sutra. So really, it's not really that far from normal playing. Just play how it's safe for you, and worry about AoEs when your gear is better, and you're more confident.

    ultimately there is no "right" method of playing as after all its a rpg how u play ur toon especially wen solo is ur business.
    What there is is levels of efficiency or effectiveness, the worst obviously been the 1s the burn thro all ur coin on pots or leave u dead the "best" method will depend on ur gear and skill lvls if currently its more efficient to use ur fists do so, later wen ur gear improves u might find its simpler to AoE larger groups over spending time going 1 v 1 bt basically wen questing the only time you should think ur doing it wrong is wen u die. go with what works and what works the fastest and/or the cheapest( lowest pot or charm consumption) cos after all npc's wont care how "pro" u were so long as their mob count or shopping list is done ;D

    That's how I did it because at that level aoeing a group of mobs still takes 6-10 hits and 20+ seconds. I didn't find it much less efficient to single spark and kill 1-2 mobs, move, single spark 1-2 mobs in about the same time as aoeing them was. And the process was safer and cheaper on pots.

    What I would be looking for is an opportunity to explore your marrows. If you find a group of physical melee mobs practice rounding them up with p marrow to aoe a little and then use single spark to pick off the last few. If you find a group of mobs that cast, practice circling them up with magic marrow on and then stunning them together then using fissure to slow them from running away.

    Yay, hitting 60 :).
    I can finally farm TT or something now :P

    What weapon should I aim for first? And should I aim for both weapons(fist + axe) for tt60?

    Get whatever you want, you wont be 60 for long. Be sure to do your Goshiki quest and the secret 1k quest if you have not already.

    Recommended Axe Progression:
    60: Skeleton Axes
    70: Calamaties or Thunderbolt Axes
    80: Calamaties or Lion King or Giant Ape Axes
    90: Calloused Lionheart (aka GXs) or Beacon or Star Axes
    95: Dragonhunt or Morai
    99+: Zillions of other threads have info on this.

    Recommended Fist Progression:
    60-85: Anything. Annihilator of souls is cool at 60, Dark Flash is okay at 70, Dragonfly Assault Blade is neat at 80 if you have the quests done for it, but really...anything.
    85: Gorenox Vanity, aka GVs. Ask some nice level 100 with a ton of mirages (and Event gold if theyre nice) to +5 or better them. Really, I find +3-+5 ones for like 5-8m often, even with good sockets and good garnets in them. Just be patient if you have the coin.
    95: Deicides, or wait till 100 for (see the 12965781853 other threads)

    Thanks, just hit 65 recently :P, borrowed someone's annihilator of souls and it's working out ok :). Made TT60 axes :D.

    Should I be farming matts now to make tt70 axe and tt60 fists?

    Axes sure, Fists no. Really you can use calamaties (well refined) till like 80 or 90 if you want.

    If you dont wanna use Calamaties and are going GXs, make Heraldry Axes for 70, the decomp them for Lion Kings at 80, Then decomp those for GXs.

    You could keep the annihilator of souls till 80/85 easy.

    I'll probably go calamities because everyone says it's really good until end game axes.
    But I don't know what I should use in between 6X to 85? Maybe I should save some coins and just use tt60 until 85 ?

    if you want to save coin get you're fists made as solo quests its simple enough to 1v1 and do the emissary quests to save up Divine Honor of the Shadow tabs for the mould fists/claws. In squads your TT60 axe will work for when you have to HF and you can put money towards getting the calamities (lvl70) like its been recommended, as with a nice refine will last you till lvl90.
    This means mats you'll be farming can be saved to make you're lvl90 TT or put to AH to get a bit more coin in the bank. Now a day's pre lvl90 there a a few nice moulds kicking about for free and pretty easy to get if you're willing to do the odd quest here and there to get em. Past lvl 90 there is a ton of threads in forum giving tips on what to aim for EG so take a bit of time to look at the divine emissary's and look on http://www.ecatomb.net/home.php to see what can be quested for or drops from fb bosses

    Everything's swell. Managed to grab a calamity axe from AH cheaply(very) and staying with annihilators of souls for a while.

    But I'm having difficulties leveling up aoe skills (fissure, highland cleaver, drake sweep) due to cost/spirits :P.
