I recently clean-installed my OS(Windows 7 Home Premium). I....
My character, that lighter shop, my genie, all full of holes... the hell is going on? Did I miss something? Why is my character a zombie? b:angry It all renders fine at first but after about 5 seconds everything is full of holes. I have the drivers for my graphics card(ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200). The launcher installed the DX9 for me. I messed with the graphic settings ingame to see if a setting didn't agree with my graphics card... I don't know what else to try.
Please help b:sad
(I know I asked this before but I couldn't find the thread to see what people said about it. Sorry )

I am sure glad I am not the only one. My husband and I used to play PWI back in December. We took a break and decided to try again. So I downloaded everything again but am having the same graphic issues. I have tweeked my settings to no end and relogged a few times. Still I have holes in my character and cannot read half of my stuff except the chat box. Most of it looks like alien scribble. Please help!0

Thanks! I will let you know if I come up with a solution as well! Good Luck!

Check your graphic's drivers are updated ,Verify your client couple of times, and At your own risk, you may have to disable your antivirus, firewall, and other security software temporarily while you download, install, update, login to, and play the game. Sometimes the security software will block it or throttle it, no matter what you try or even if you try to add exceptions for the game files in your security software. Try this out too
1) If you encounter a DirectX error, dll error, or invisible characters, you can try updating with this on Windows 7, Vista, and XP:
Web Installer
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35 Then restart your computer.
You will need to install this if you get those kinds of errors, even if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 so that DirectX 9 files can be copied over to the right spot.
--OR--
You can try this method:
We found one source for the dll file, but don't know how genuine it is, so use AT YOUR OWN RISK.
1) You can download d3dx9_42.dll here: http://dllcentral.com/d3dx9_42.dll/9.27.952.3001/download/
2) Paste this file into your system32 and system folder. Also put it in your syswow
3) Navigate to your System32(32Bit OS) or SyWOW64(64Bit OS) Folder.
Note: The location of System32 or SyWOW64 is
C:Windows\System32 (If you are using 32Bit Windows)
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (if you are using 64Bit Windows)
4) Paste the d3dx9_42.dll into this folder.
5) Run the game. It may or may not work now.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Thanks Silvy for the siggy, You are the best ! b:kiss0 -
I would also like to note....
If you are on Vista or newer, set the client to run as administrator in the compatibility settings. DO NOT set it to run with XP compatibility mode. (The latter will make the already bad memory leak in the client worse and will affect the stability of the client in general.)
Also, be certain to add the client directory to the exception list for your security software. Verify the files a couple of times afterwards. I could just be something as simple as a corrupt texture package file. (this is usually the case in MissLotus' screenshot.)
The newest drivers are not always the best, or most compatible. There have been a few cases when I have had glitches similar to those and resolved it by rolling back to an earlier driver version, or jumping ahead to a beta version. (this is less often the case with integrated graphic chips though.)
Lastly, I am noticing things like the OP's screenshot more on low-end integrated graphic chipsets. I myself can experience similar issues when using my inboard Intel G33 chipset. I believe it's more of a failure of the video chip to handle the texture layering than it is an actual problem with the client.
If anyone wants for me to look into it further after going through the steps that Sizzer and I mentioned above, post your dxdiag.txt data using the CODE tag and remove the copyright symbols, along with a link to a published Speccy log.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

You have Microsoft Security Essentials running. Be sure to add the client to it's exception list.
Personally, MSE sucks major donkey balls and you should upgrade to a real security engine like Avast, Avira, BitDefender, AVG, or just about anything else. MSE is known to interfere and has cause issues with games such as this in the past. That's not even getting into how much it will decrease your systems performance and hog resources.
You could turn of indexing, and Remote Differential Compression to improve your overall system performance. (This is done under Add/Remove Windows features.)
The 3D and video settings for your video card should all be set to default. If you change any of the settings there it will have a negative effect on the client. I've even tried optimizing settings for the way the client behaves, and ANY change to those settings can **** up the display of the client. (should have mentioned that above, but it slipped my mind.)
The only other thing I can think of offhand would be 3rd party video codecs that are interfering, but since you didn't provide the dxdiag, I can't look into that.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Everyone, everywhere I asked was telling me to update my drivers and ****. In reality, I should have done the opposite. The new drivers by AMD for my card are terrible. EVERY GAME I have had ****ed up graphics in the exact same way.
I solved it by going to device manager, right click my graphics card, hit properties and hit Roll Back Driver.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Ok I finally got a chance to work on all of this. I have added the exceptions, my drivers are up to date, and now I am in the verification process. So here is my info for my computer.

Your hardware looks fine, with one exception....
The native resolution of your monitor is 1920x1080, yet Speccy shows that you're using 1024x768. Some video cards have issues with scaling the display, especially with scaling a 4:3 onto a 16:9.
That could be why you're getting the smearing there. If 1920x1080 is too large of a resolution and you can't see the text easily, at least keep it with the same aspect ratio. I would recommend 1600x900 personally, but 1366x768, or 1280x720 should work as well.
You do have a few extra processes you could trim down while you play to improve performance a little bit, but ti's not going to make a huge difference.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

No it's not, but it doesn't exclude the fixes I mentioned. I did not mention backing up the driver because you had already mentioned it previously, and she said that she had tried everything above, which would have included reverting to a previous driver version.
It might help if you let us know which driver version you are running now.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
8.632.1.2000
By the way I had the same smearing and text issues she has. Everything will be fixed by rolling back her driver ^^[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I am working on this as a fix to the Windows 8 Release Preview installs normal start ok but after log in texture drop in same manner and the longer i stay in the game the worse it gets after 3min in game all words are in either a different language or so chopped up it looks like it.
I can't roll back drivers or update due to this new windows 8 graphics driver.0 -

Microsoft has a bad habit of releasing a good OS and then a ****ty one. Windows 8 is the ****ty one, you should stick to windows 7.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I can not roll back the graphics card. It does not give me that option. Yes I can see where to do it but it is not highlighted so that is not the issue. I am working on the monitor issue to see if that fixes it.0

Changing the aspect ratio does nothing for the graphic issues.0

Ah ****, should have checked this thread first before i deceided to do a complete re-instal. =[0

And indeed, as stated before, rerolling the driver update fixes it all. Thx for sharing. b:cute0

Unfortunately Tagi didn't give us the actual driver version. You can use this page to start working your way backwards until you find the one that works.
@ Laylen, Windows8 only just left Developer preview. It's hardly even begun the beta testing phase. You'll pretty much have to bend over backwards with specific details on the directx functionality, video driver functions, and base OS settings to get the client to work on it. I gave up after the Decent update because it was more hassle than it was worth. Once Win8 gets some decent updates and there's a bit more compatibility, I'll give it a shot again.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Guess I give up. Nothing I have done has worked. I will just have to play like this until the next update. Hope that will fix it then.0

Its not a big problem its just i would like to play it on the preview PS i play this on Vista not 7 lol I have a application manager on that partition to let me play on full graphics b:victory
This was just a side project that I was looking for insight on.
PS I like windows 8 and dont really care about 70
