Yes it would be more beneficial to a Heavy Armor Wearer, however try to keep both stats relatively balanced and even. (No sense in having 20k PDEF if your Mdef is only 6k because then you would die very easily to magic classes)

Say your p.def reduces you incoming physical damage by 90% and a mob hits you for 1000 damage, you'd be hit for 100 damage.

If you also have 2% phys reduce from a piece of equipment, then you'd be hit for 98 damage.

It's not amazing, but when you stack it to like 10-15% it at least makes a difference.

The "Reduce Physical Damage by X%" and "Reduce Elemental Damage by X%" mods are not additive with your defenses, they are multiplicative. That is, if you had 90% reduction from your defense and then a 10% reduction, you wouldn't get a 100% reduction, but rather 91%.

Actually, it's not like that.

The reduction just depends on the attacker's level. The Character Info menu just shows the reduction you would have against someone of your own level, thus it gives the impression that leveling up your character lowers the reduction. In reality all that is happening is that the Attacker Level used to calculate the reduction is increased.
