    Just send him a chat ingame if he's on your friend's list. Not a pm, an actual chat. It'll pop up as soon as he logs in, and then he'll know you're looking for him, even if you're offline. Alternatively, scrap 500 coins and send him a mail if you can't start a chat with him.

    The chances of your friend reading the forums if you know he doesn't already are zip to none.
