Well, what "distance" are you talking about? Just like every other game, PW doesn't draw stuff that's "too far" away, for some definition of "too far".

This is mostly visible with buildings and trees, as they often "pop into" the landscape as you get closer. And they are quite large, so it's quite noticeable :-)
Slow progress, game is getting way too grindy :-( Quests I still hope to be able to do some day: FB39, General Feng

I need to get REALLY close in order to see the players.

Well you probably need to increase the distance in your game settings then. You probably had it in performance mode when you exited the game. It saves your display settings to the performance mode settings if you do that.

im also having this problem, I tried increasing virtual memory size, lowering all visual effects, increasing distance, running program as admin, installed dx11, it used to work to where i could see players from a castable distance but now i have to run right beside of them for their character to pop up.

ok when you're in-game, press the "U" key to get your game settings. Then click on the tab labled "UI". (It's the second tab.) Down in the bottom section (just above where it says "Mini Map") there are two sliders. The first is marked "Distance", the second is marked Effects. Make sure that the "Distance" slider is not all the way to the left.

This IS the fix for exactly what you are describing.
