Can't run game on WINE after Descent update

I have wine 1.2.3 running on Ubuntu 11.10

My boyfriend updated on windows and then i copied the files on my pc, patcher was crashing a lot so it was the only way to update.

Now, if i run the patcher it lightens up the start button but a message says that an error has happened, doesn't say what error.

If i run the element.exe, nothing happens not even the error message.

Before the update everything was working smoothly but now i just don't know what to do b:cry

Edit:

Through winetricks I installed vcrun2005, vcrun2008, and d3dx9, i can log in now, but i can't see my own character, other ppl or npc. My skills and everything else is visible. But is there a way to fix it?

    I'll try using wine 1.3 etc and see if i can make it work, if it doesn't i'll try 1.4

    The thread is useful but didn't exactly helped me since i already had everything (ie8, d3dx9, vcrun2005, vcrun6, vcrun6sp6)

    I can still log in, i just can't see any chars, npc, it's still playable lol.

    hope this helps but i cannot promise anything, it looks like you need directx9 yet

    how's performance of PWI on your hyperthread machine? I am considering switching my dual-core 2GB Satellite to ubuntu, but I gotta have my perfect world, man! Preferably with the same or better FPS.

    I noticed a 10-15% improvement running on Ubuntu vs running on Windows 7. Both with 64-bit architecture, and Win7 was fully optimized specifically for PWI.
