I have been working to get this game up and running on my laptop since yesterday noon. I downloaded everything I needed to, DirectX 9.0c, downloaded the patches, I verified every file. I click Start, I get to the Log In Screen. I type my Username and Password as needed, I successfully log in, and I get to this:

Just what in the world is this? I am unable to click the Start Button at the bottom, I am unable to do anything. All I can do is click the Exit, which will lead me back to the Log In Screen; to support the action possibility, the background does move, the flowers will sway, the sunbeams will fade in and out, etc.

I do not know entirely if I am the only one experiencing this, but I would very much like for it to be fixed. I am not willing to have 12 hours of downloading, and a few extra hours of verifying, updating the patches, and downloading the necessary requirements to go to waste. I'm sure you all would say the same thing.

Now, before I lose my already ill-mind, I would like for this problem to be resolved.

Had the same problem on one laptop on which i used autopatch when descent was out.All other desktops and laptopnp at all, i had used manual patch there.
Finally decided to re-install PWI and manual patch it. 1 reboot and it worked again.b:victory
Hope this helps , good luck

I encounter this same problem a lot of times, and to fix it, I just re-log in.

    No need to re-install PWI.

from your screenshots, you have the "widescreen" option checked. All that option does in add black bars to the top and bottom of the screen to "simulate" a widescreen resolution.
The black bars are covering up your buttons.

    Solution: Un-select the "Widescreen" option.
