I have 11k hp unbuffed and 14k hp buffed, and I have no problem with GoF on my r9. Don't know why you would have a problem with SS with 7k hp unbuffed.
SS and GoF have the same effect when it procs, but are just different percentages. There's not really a way to "lower" the chances of it happening.[SIGPIC]Octavia is best pony[/SIGPIC]

Ok the problem with your build is that you have only +5 orns. Your ornaments should all be refined as high as you can so that you are not taking as much damage. ss/gof will damage your healing ability quite alot so you need more defense. Dots help make the damage high enough to create a break even when it procs, but the fact is that a break even point is still a no heal point where without it- you would be healing.
Fact is when I first got my rank 9 daggers I hated them. All the sudden I would easily die in places my g13 would keep me alive. I still use my g13 sometimes if I need a higher positive heal. G13 will flat out heal the rank 9. It also noticably out chi it too.0 -
You're going to be forever against rank 9, aren't you Tiger?[SIGPIC]Octavia is best pony[/SIGPIC]

There is no way to lower the proc rate but there is a way to lower the hp loss you are receiving. The answer you can find in the forums.0

send me this link of the lowering of hp loss! b:beg
and yeah i guess i really should get better orns? i guess it could help me pdef wise but not sure about mdef, but i don't wanna lose the aps (at least for the moment) by getting warsong/cube neck/etc.
and yeah i think it's cause i have a charm that keeps getting ticked more-so from SS plus a hit from a boss..guess i need some extra defense! does anyone know the number for pdef/mdef where it would become a decreasing return or whatever it's called?
and yeah what's up with this r9 hating runningtiger? :P0 -

Sac Strike hp loss
Basically the amount lost is only calculated a few times. When you enter an instance, when you change your gear, when you die, when you first log in... When you first log in the number it uses to calculate what 5% hp loss would be is you completely ungeared. When you enter an instance it updates to you with your gear. When you get barb buffed it still uses your old hp amount until you enter an instance or change gear.
I get in trouble when I change gear while I have a barb buff, then buff wears off and my SS loss is still being calculated on 9.5k hp instead of my current 7.2k.
Also, diminishing returns is somewhat a misnomer for defenses. Its true it takes less pdef to go from 50% reduction to 51% than it would to go from 90 to 91%. Lets say (theoretically) it takes 500 pdef to get 1% more reduction for 50%-51%, but takes 5k pdef to get from 90-91%, another 1%. That looks like diminishing returns but if you consider going from 50-51% is a 2% decrease in damage while going from 90-91% is a 10% decrease in damage it really isn't that diminishing.Seven 100+ characters leveled the hard way. It might take 4.5k def more to get that 1%, but the 1% is a large portion of the damage (since it's a smaller number to start with since you're already at 90%). That's at least how I look at it. This is why it's much better to go JoSD at a certain point then to try and get more pdef. The jades are a much easier / cheaper way to get the damage down further.BladedZero - Sanctuary

I have to echo what Traz said. Defense levels are very noticeable early on.
Even though I sacrifice 1.4-1.5k p def by switching from TT99 HA orns to R9 and m def cube neck, I receive less physical damage while wearing r9/m def cube neck because of the defense levels. It's just 11, but it already gives more defenses against not only physical, but magical as well.[SIGPIC]Octavia is best pony[/SIGPIC]
