Hello, I am having problems with lag spikes randomly. Every so often the game will freeze for few seconds and I do not know why. I have tried wireless and plugged in. Changing resolutions, trying different server on west and east, changing the graphics to max and the lowest, rebooting moden and router, and other things that does nothing. Anyone know how to fix this?

System specs:

Asus G53sw running windows 7
Graphic card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 460m
8 gigs ram

Thanks.

While not entirely sure what the cause of the problem may be, the panda is placing this thread into the Tech-Support section of the forum.

If the game is completely freezing, then it's something on your system that is taking CPU priority over the client. That is not lag.

If you are still able to do things in the game, but the responses are delayed, that is lag, and posting your traceroute will help us take a look at why you're having it.

I know some of computers but never tried doing a trace rout before. Can you tell me how to do this? BTW I downloaded gamebooster 3.0 and so far I haven't had any lag spikes, but I will still need to be ingame for awile before I konw if that helps or not. Thanks.

    I think I got it...

    Tracing route to pc [192.167.1.2]
over a maximum of 30 hops

    1 <ms <1 ms <1 ms pc [192.168.1.2]

    is this what you needed?

    thanks

yeah except you want to put your server in there. For example...
    C:\>tracert pwigc2.perfectworld.com

    Tracing route to pwigc2.perfectworld.com [64.74.134.52]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

      1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.15.1 (my first router/firewall)
      2 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms home [192.168.1.254](my second router/firewall)
      3 13 ms 15 ms 13 ms adsl-76-234-131-254.dsl.sfldmi.sbcglobal.net [76
    .234.131.254] (my ISP's CO)
      4 13 ms 13 ms 13 ms 67.36.65.2
      5 13 ms 13 ms 35 ms bb2-p5-0.sfldmi.sbcglobal.net [151.164.98.107] (my ISP's regional hub)

That's a traceroute to the Sanctuary server. You will want to choose the address for your server using the list that I posted in the thread that I linked above.

ok that's a clean connection there. I will need to see a trace taken while you are having the lag issues to see if anything changes. If not, then it might be something on your system or network interfering with the client.

It looks like your laptop is connected via wireless, (I'm assuming it's a laptop because of the background =P), this might be something to investigate further. How many other wireless connections are in the area, how many wireless PC's on your own network, and the model of your router can all play into that and more.

Seems like the game works fine with game booster on, been playing 2 hours+ with no lag spikes at all. Usually I get them every few mins but haven't had any. There is 3 computers wireless to the router and one that used ethernet cord. The router is Netgear the cheap white one. ISP is suddenlink. I think it may be fixed now as long as I use the game booster software :D, thanks for your help.

yeah, if gamebooster fixes it, then it's not lag, it's something on your system hogging the CPU and is "pausing" the threads that the client is using.

I'm wondering if I also will get better latency to the American Servers using Game booster as I constantly get ping between 600 towards 1200 which is playable, but not preferred.

I also took my location in account, (South-Africa), but that can also be the problem.

Please advise if my destination could be a problem or just need to upgrade my Internet Connection, as South-Africa doesn't have cable. :/

I'd need to see your traceroute to tell you if upgrading your internet would even do anything.

Here is my Trace-Route to PWI Lost City

Got a lot of time outs at the end. Assuming it is because of the security on your servers.

ok the resolution on the image you linked is so small it's near impossible to make much out of it.

    Hop 4 looks like it's 661ms, and then from hops 7-15 it's ranging between 250ms to 900+ms

Yes hop 16 is the ISP for PWE and you won't get a response from thereafter for security reasons

SO it looks clean on your end, and with your ISP, but the route that it's taking across the internet before it gets to the PWE server really sucks and is what's causing the issue.

Sometimes, unplugging your modem/router for a few minutes (1-5) will reset the DNS routes that it has stored in memory and can get you a better path. Unfortunately, that's about the only thing you can do to get a better connection.
It's either that, or wait until the traffic on the congested hubs between you and PWE gets cleared up.

I will try to clear my DNS routes directly on my router and everything.

I will also download Gamebooster as GameFire is a not so good program. b:cry
