Help with soul gem

what are soul gems for,and how do I equip it to my weapon it keeps saying that their are no sockets and I don't know what that means?! This is what it looks like:

    Soul gems are for your weapon and armor but your gears needs to have sockets first before you can imbune shards in.

    I'm assuming you're trying to put gems into an NPC weapon that has 0 sockets. To know how many sockets your gears has, it will show you the number right next to the name of the armor piece.

    For example in this weapon - it has 1 socket so you can put 1 gem in there:

    The best gem to imbue into melee weapons is the garnet, by the way... elemental shards like that are virtually useless except for the Crazy Stone daily (level 30+ in Archosaur.)

    Some mob drop equipment will have sockets... none of the stuff you can buy from NPCs will. You also have a chance to get sockets on equipment you craft. (Weapons and armor only, ornaments never have sockets.)

    can u manufacture a weapon with an empty socket?

    Note highlights. Some manufactured items have minimum sockets when made, but that's mold and TT gear which you won't be getting until later. Stuff made at the blacksmith have a random chance to have 1 or 2 sockets (2 is the max for weapons, 4 sockets the max for armor.) You can add sockets to manufactured gear using socket stones (bought from cash shop/made from perfect tokens of luck at the boutique agent.)

    Any sockets on gear you find or make will be empty, the only way to get items with filled sockets is to obtain them from another player.
