Why stress over a game?

First off let me state this isn't an inflammatory post towards anyone, just an inquiry and an honest question.
Why do people stress about a game? I've been playing MMOs since 1999 and every MMO game I have played, and its numerous, have had their glitches, bugs, and fair share of problems/issues. Some were fixed, and some weren't. It's the nature of MMO games.
My question is why stress over a game? Sure there are those that will exploit, bot, find easy ways around parts of the game, its like that in the vast majority of games. I personally dont worry about them. I dont care about someones pixellated level, gear, or pseudo-uberliciousness, as long as I enjoy playing the game. When I no longer enjoy it, I move on to another game.
Real life is the stressful part, not a pixellated world. Real life is the hardest quest, with the hardest bosses. My armor is my house, my mounts are my cars. My fashion hangs in the closet. My cash shop are my bank accounts. My faction is my family. My weapon is my brain. I play PWI occasionally to get away from all that stresses in life.

I guess many people are annoyed because PW isn't as fun as it used to be.
Back when I started, there were a lot more people questing etc, you would start a new char and at around level 10 you would start seeing people the same level as you killing the same stuff and you could squad with them.
Now, the quest areas are deserted, most people just power level. Many people are just frustrated that its hard to actually have fun in the game any more.0 -

You answered your question yourself.
I guess the reason for all the rage is that people forget exactly this. It is a game, for enjoyment and fun. For having a fun time out. Not a job to get to max and to wate all your time on.
If you put the game in a comparism to real life, oh believ eme, even the biggest glitch will look ridiculously unimportant. But that's what most people forget.
Oh and hats off for such a mature view of the subject[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Why do people stress about a game?
This company provides a service. When a company provides service that is a piece of ***** (ahem)--people tend to get pissed off. Multiple people begin to realize they are being screwed in the **** shoot, and get pissed off together. This causes great stress between the people who are narrowminded enough to think this game is fine, and those who realize that there are about a million and a half issues with the bugs, glitches, and overall content of this game.
This may or may not cause stress to the developing staff. (Not that we would know, because we hear NOTHING from them directly.) They may or may not do things that will further **** off these angry people, simply because they can. They may or may not have cared in the first place, causing them to **** up big time, and further enraging the people who are PAYING for that service.
In the real world, people would stop paying for a service that is a piece of ****--but PWI shares the same immunities as places like Taco Bell, Addias, and the United States Government--No matter how much you hate it, no matter how much you complain, no matter how much money you don't give them, they refuse to neither fix the problems, nor do they die off like most companies without money would.
So why the stress?
We pay for a service, and cannot sit down to play because we get screwed so hard in the **** by our developing staff.[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=15105911002&dateline=1334936268[/SIGPIC]

Also, I think real stress is easy for people to channel into the game.
After a stressful day, it's pretty easy to sit down at a game where no one knows who you really are, and start raging at various aspects of the game or people playing the game.0 -

Honest answer, thank you, but question...if the service is bad, why not find a different provider of a similar service? This is a game, and there are plenty of them out there. Sadly, you will find the vast majority have their issues as i stated in my original post and some more than others.Proud Executor of Rapture

Ok, your whole post was filled with venom and dislike, but the two segments I chose seem to also heavily generalize when generalizations are full of fail and AIDS.Mystic_Man - Harshlands wrote: »the people who are narrowminded enough to think this game is fineMystic_Man - Harshlands wrote: »those who realize that there are about a million and a half issues with the bugs, glitches, and overall content of this game.
Yeah... as at least one other has stated, ALL games are gonna have issues. If you do not think the game is worth playing, then why are you playing still, or, if your no longer playing, then you must be a troll.
I know there are issues with the game, some of which really could use fixing. I also know that I can still have fun on this game. Heck, there are some games out there that are even worse than you describe PWI to be. I play them because there are still fun aspects to them. On certain ones, I will even put real world money into them.
It's a game, and games are supposed to be for entertainment purposes. If it is not entertaining you, then move on to one that will. I for one have no plans on quitting yet.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You can't do much about the US government, true, but you don't have to shop at Taco Bell/etc, nor do you have to give a single penny to PWE. If you aren't charging, then you have no real place to complain, because you are getting their service (despite the low quality) for free. If you are charging, then I must ask, what is wrong with you? Why would you voluntarily give your money to a company that angers you so much? The best way to show you find their business practices to be unacceptable is to not give them money.
Don't get me wrong, I think PWE has a lot of poor management issues. But I also don't see the point in raging over it when I'm not required to pay for it.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Most of the mmos out there either suck, had potential, are p2p, are not out yet, are dead, are clones of each other, or not playable.
It's hard to find a substitute for something you really like; it's like trying to find another song that's just like your favorite song.
PWI is really nicely developed, however, it needs to be maintained better and pwe/wanmei aren't taking the right steps to ensure the game is stable/better.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

If you notice the majority of complaints come from PvP servers. They focus on Player Vs Player so all they can do is focus on lvls and gear(they have a First person shooter mentailty as thats typically they type of game they either came from or will go too), now this is my opinion but it speaks true for almost all of them. People who play PvE servers see this because face it in game terms the players are pretty bada.ss they are some of the strongest chars so people new to MMO's or think that they have to keep up start picking up this game play as the norm. But they end up hitting the same wall that the PvPers hit.
It's a vicious cycle and thats why PWRD's p2p is seen as better. because theres no buying your way to happiness so to speak.
Most PvE are content with what is given to them, they in fact enjoy the game as it is. Yes you have some who want more of a feat but in general are happy with what they have.

I think you summed it up nicely! If I wanna do PvP, I play one of the multiple 1ps games I have on my puter. If I want PvE, then I have PWI and many other games to play.
Thing is, I think people need to find games that make them happy. If this game aint making these people happy, then they need a new game lol[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

You can't compare an fps to pvp in an mmo. That doesn't even make sense.0 -

Where did he make a Comparison?
Your right you can't compare the two. But a player who loves FPS coming to an MMO and going to PvP they are going to expect the same gradifacation in playing that MMO as they get in a FPS.0 -

Stressing out over something is not good for one's mind, real life or in game. You have to enjoy whatever you do in life, if it is not enjoyable, move onto something else unless it is your job to take care of the loved ones.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
What I meant by that is if you wanna kill other players, then a 1ps game would be better suited.
When I wanna kill others, I have various games I play for that purpose. Usually with sub-machine guns or belt fed weaponry, depending on my mood and what map I'm doin. Yeah, I get owned... but I do well enough and have fun. When it ceases being fun, I quit and find something else to do.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

My first job out of college was in Washington DC and after work I used to play a lot of pickup basketball. It was my first exposure to real ghetto hoops. Anyway even though I am a competitive person and love the sport I quickly realized I could never match the intensity of these players. They took afternoon pickup games more seriously than my old high school team took official games. I eventually realized that most of these ghetto players were unemployed and weren't even looking for jobs. Playing basketball was the most important thing that went on for them in each day while work was the most important thing for me.
I realized that every person has something they take seriously. And if they are in a situation like long term unemployment the things they take seriously are things not worth it, but having something to be serious about is a need inside us. So that need will be expressed no matter what and for these ghetto players it was expressed by taking pickup basketball waaaaaay too seriously. I assume its the same for puter games. Some people with no life direct all that energy into the game.AKA PermaSpark, Heartshatter0 -

I agree and do what I can to alleviate the stresses of life, be it my artwork, or spending time with my co-author friend writing a book we are working on in our spare time, or being an avid reader myself. And time permitting, playing MMOs from time to time.
My closest family is 1250 miles away, but my family is very important to me. My job requires me to work 12 hours a day on a good day, and the sky is the limit for hourly stretches on bad days. Several days of 18+ hours is not uncommon with the nature of my profession. Thankfully I am salary non-exempt. On 90% of my days off, I am on call, but I like my job, even with the pressures put upon my sometimes very weary shoulders, but it can be mind numbingly stressful.
So, personally, this is why I don't let a game stress me. It's entertainment; an outlet into a fantasy world, where I am the character I create and play. And since the game is on occasion my means to talk to others that are not coworkers; people from around the globe, even online there are friendships I have made. Plus, as an afterthought, I love the artistic vision that went into it, being an artist myself. But the game is not my world, only one of fantasy, as a means to step out of reality for even a brief moment in time.Proud Executor of Rapture

hmm- Idk- I have been playing perfect world since well a few years now. I initially only played about 20 hours a week or so , but after my back injury at work- I would say I average about 10 hours a day on pwi. It is in fact not just a game..........0

Not totally true, but it's the way most MMO go. There's always peeps in the starter zones, just not as many as when game was new.0 -

At 1st every1 treats any game they play as fun and a free - time activity, but as you get higher, the competition gets more tighter and the majority of players tend to be very competitive and will do anything to be among the best, hence frustrations, anger, and stress. It`s pretty much like real life, we strive to dominate and be the alpha males/females.[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=14516063001&dateline=1364756666[/SIGPIC] Ty Silvy0

That's about the most clueless and ignorant thing you've said on the forums, but that's not saying much.
There are far more PvE'ers on the forum and the forum is full of QQ.
I can't count how many kill steal and sexual/personal harassment threads are started by PvEers. On PvP servers, that's easily fixed by players. On PvE servers, you need to submit a ticket. And we all know how well the ticketing system works here, well, except for maybe you.
Then add in all the PvEer "QQ why do I get killed in Cube on a PvE server" threads there have been.
All of the Secret Passage QQ was PvE as well.
So, while it's nice that you've learned how to form opinions and how to use a forum, learning how not to stick your foot in your mouth is a slightly longer learning curve. Please keep at it. You may get it right eventually.
b:pleased
BTW, the forums largest QQ thread (the 7th largest thread in this forum) is PvE rage from PvEers:

The fact that you're equating a First Person Shooter with a Players vs Player MMORPG is just simply wrong. I know you're trying to describe the common trait that those two things share which is the player versus player experience, but that's as far as the link will go, albeit a very weak link.
Those two genres don't even match in platform let alone "mentality". FPS like counterstrike, half life, quake, team fortress, cod, battlefield concerns nothing with levels and definitely not even the mass accumulation of gears! It's essentially just using whatever guns and weapons at their disposal to eliminate each other, most of the time that in itself is the objective.
While a player in PVP MMORPG is concerned with leveling, high end gears that trumps lower end counterparts, and a wealth of skills.
SO no, enough with you assumptions about MMORPG ppl having FPS mentality."yesterday was history, tomorrow is a mystery....but today it is a gift, that is why it is called the present."

When I had to do my quests in there, there were plenty of RPKers around. PK was still alive on the server, and even turning in quests at Heaven's Tear was a chore. I died a lot during those early levels to PKers. Having to avoid them to get quests done was part of the game. And it was a part that I'm glad I had to go through. I remember how exhilarating it was when I would actually be able to turn a quest in or pick one up at Heaven's Tear without being killed. This game would have been boring if it were any different.
The most memorable moments I have in game was the rush when some stranger would start attacking... in many of those circumstances I died. On a few occasions there were long battles. And even some of the time I would win. Almost none of my PvE achievements mean anything compared to the PvP battles I've been part of.
And I've only been 200 hours red once in my whole time here. I'm a carebear and I can't imagine how horribly stagnant things would have been if I was on a PvE server.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
Me personnally i stress over this game because i remember a better time. I just want the game to get out of the **** shoot it is in right now and climb the ladder of success and shine. Alot of great additions have been made to the game but most have only made things worse and some were just a waste of effort for the company to put in sense they are useless and didnt do a dam thing. Sadly no matter how much i wish the game would get better the way things are now will prob only get worse. The type of players has changed the older players have merged with the newer less desireable players just to compete. Ive had fun times on all servers pve and pvp but things have changed. The first one that went out the window was pvp its just no fun any more so now im just clinging to the pve part of the game and hoping some light will shine through the darkness of this age of chaos.b:worriedb:shedtearCollector of pet eggs, armor, weapons, fashion, and mountsb:chuckle0

I think people stress when the people they've become quite attatched to get hurt by other people in game be it res killing boss stealing verbal abuse, might be a game but behind the screens are real people with feelings. Some don't show feelings but i believe most of us women do :P
As for the rest, our server got threatened by a faction that told us to think twice before we attack them otherwise we gonna die. God forbid that dying is allowed in a game! :O Its lol just lol.lalalala Pokemon

I don't stress over it, any game can have it's ups and downs. As for as service, I've had worse service on other MMORPGs. This is nothing compared to those.0
