People's supposed 'Quitting Sales'

Makes me laugh when I'm walking around Arch, and I spot a cat shop with "Quitting sale". I just instantly think, "Oh boy here's another one thinking people will buy their **** if he says its because they're quitting". Lo and behold when I open up the cat shop window of said shop all of the stuff is priced at either current in game prices or ridiculously overpriced, I can't help but think, if you're really quitting why isn't all this stuff at a price that would back up your intentions to quit? I.E. 1 coin. Better yet go up to some lowbie and drop all your stuff in front of them and say "Enjoy!" At least that's what I would do......

Just wondering if anyone else ever thought the same?b:bye

Probably because those who quit and sell their stuff don't want to come back to absolutely nothing? If they have money, they can easily obtain their gear back. In my opinion, it's better than letting the gear dust up in the bank.

Yes, when I asked one of them, why he wrote such name, his answer was: "Because I want to sell my items faster ..."

When I quit game (my list of friends was empty), I deleted all my characters with all items.

I think, that total cost of my equipment was near 100 mil. may be.

(One item's cost was about 33 mil - level 4 Tome, I had other tomes and items too, all armor 4 socketted and sharded by level 8 Citrines and Garnets, etc. ).

What would be aim of "quitting sale" for me ?

That's taking a break. You gear isn't really dusting up if you're going to put it to good use in a few months. Besides, you can't guarantee the sum it sells for will be the sum it'll cost when you return. If you genuinely want to quit, having items and money to come back to is the worst thing you can do. It'll just fuel the desire to come back. Getting rid of everything is the best way to move on.

Then give the friends the items to sell themselves? Or just sell them at 20% off for instant sale? Free money is free money and your friends will be appreciative regardless. If I'm quitting, I'd want done quickly, rather than sitting in a cat shop for days trying to sell overpriced junk.

To sum up, the only real reason is to trick people into thinking they're getting a bargain and sell items fast. Just a marketing tactic really. b:chuckle

A 'quitting sale' is silly if you intend to keep the coin, since you're 'quitting' and not 'taking a break.'

I gave away all of my unbound things and all of my money to friends when I left the game. I don't see the point in keeping useful things in a bank if someone else can use them.

If I were to quit, I would delete my characters. All gear, characters, everything would be gone. Then, I would randomize my account password, and never come back.

    That said...

I've never had a 'quitting fail'. I've left the game for upwards of 2 years before... But I didn't "liquidate" my inventory before I did.

If you are going to quit, for any extended period of time, the best thing you could do is sell everything not bound. What is worth 80 mil now, may not be worth 20 a year or two from now- and a newber better items that can replace it be going for 80-

I find this thread amusing, just like I find the "quitting sale" catshops amusing. I really think, especially with FlyRanger, that it's a JOKE!. It's supposed to be funny, to make you laugh, and then say "what the heck, I'll see what they have." Think about it, if they're quitting, why sell their stuff, just give it to friends or whatever. Then people come along and say, "Shame on them, having a qutting sale for 2 years. False advertising!" I mean, really, grow a sense of humor.

I'm a paranoid buyer, so I generally triple check everything I buy, including going and trying to find a price match and make sure I'm actually getting a deal.

But I never trust myself to actually quit, so I leave all my stuff on my accounts (other than letting my best friends that I really trust borrow my fashion, but never my gear since it's too easy to lose) because I generally will come back after a few months or a year once I've had my break. I just get sick of this game sometimes xD

I didn't say "shame on them", at beginning it was fun and interesting seeing his shop everywhere with more and more expensive stuff in it, but as any thing that gets repeated over and over and over and over again the novelty and fun dissapears and it just looks stupid after a while. Change it to a "Quitting Tomorrow" or " quit when sold out" or whatever else to add some variation, I actually check shops with funny names. When you see "quitting sale" for 2 years on the same shop, knowing he's a hardcore merchant, I don't even bother to check his shop ever. And I know some other ppl that don't, for same reason.

Many people who do this would excuse it as they are quitting that character. They then create a new character will all the coin they got, and can buy just about anything they might need for that new character.

Pretty wise business move, although a bit sneaky.

it'll probably be edited or removed for naming/shaming, but this guy is who I first thought of looking at this thread. He's been "quitting" since before I started playing, and looks to have financed r9 at least partly by this deceptive marketing technique.

the example above proves you don't even need to quit the character you catshop "quitting sale" with, people will buy your junk anyway.
