Do you play with Soften on or off?

Simple question, I'm sure it's been asked before but what the hell right?

Personally, I hate it. It gives everything an unrealistic bloom effect that does not please me at all. In fact, it turned me away from even trying the game for a long time because before I actually played it, I didn't know you could turn it off. What's your preference?

    Wow looks like no one likes it so far. Maybe PW should reevaluate their commitment to the Soften feature.

    Sometimes it looks nice on screenies, but in places like fcc it's awefull.

    I always play with Soften on. One of the many things I cannot -stand- about most games are the hard lines.

    Soften helps take that edge off the graphics, and gives a more 3D effect, which is closer to the real thing.

    Also, with a game like this...it makes the scenery absolutely beautiful. The only thing I wish PWE would improve on is the textures like the trees, the grass, ect.

    I don't know why someone's eyes would hurt after having soften on. Maybe you have a **** screen? Mine is HD and absolutely huge b:dirty

    What kind of monitors are you all playing on? I'm on a big 1080p, and having soften off makes the game look terrible. If I want the blocky/edgy look, I'll dig out my n64 or PSOne.

    I actually played with max settings first few months but my eyes got to the point I had to look away from the screen every few minutes to adjust so now I play with everything on low with max visual effects and distance b:chuckle I would trade the soften effect for a darker chat background :3

    If I'm on grinding mode, I usually turn soften on..
    anything else, off.

    I don't know why people are complaining about blocky edginess. Have you heard of anti-aliasing? It's amazing! :)

    Before you tell me Perfect World International doesn't support AA, let me tell you you're wrong. You can force AA through your video cards control panel. It works great and look great as long as you have it set correctly. On the wrong setting, it can make the UI look fuzzy.

    I mess with it when I'm taking screenshots, but most of the time I'm trying to avoid lagging so I have a lot of the effects turned off. It annoys me anyway, makes me feel like I need to clean my screen!

    I find that Soften sucks far less once I go tune my video driver's AA settings and force them for elementclient.exe. In fact, it brings out richness and warmth in many parts of the map. It also manages, simultaneously, to enhance the cold, harsh, feeling in certain areas. Then, in others, it's almost not noticeable except on players' skills.

    But yeah. It makes the wobby water give me seasickness, especially with my HP/MP bars over my head having a bad acid trip. b:spit

    I like soften but its a little too soft so I turn on sharpen at the same time and it give it a nice balance. If I'm squading or running a instance though, I turn it off.

    I've always had it on, simply makes the game look better and it doesn't hurt my eyes either, apart from some areas in FC where I've noticed the game is dead bright, but doesn't really bother me.

    "Soften" on the element client looks like ****.

    Set AA higher in your driver's forced settings.

    i used to play with it on all the time. I always complained about the world going grey when i died and no one else had that problem. However I didnt put it together until later that was why lol

    I still use it for screenshots though

    Seriously tho, I paid $1,700 for my laptop and I can play every single game on the market. I don't like the way soften looks and I believe there are many who are in the same boat as I am. Just because a setting is there doesn't mean you have to use it.
