b:chuckle then there are those special few, where it literally takes a punch to the face to fall for someone...

<_< That's how me and my partner got together 2 years ago. :D I did the punching, of course.

Not without an actual Marriage License, which must be obtained, singed and returned to your local municipality.

You sure it has to be your LOCAL Municipality? If so then how do people that elope to Las Vegas from area's that aren't even in the same state as Las Vegas, get away with still being Married when they return to their home locality? I think this requires some additional thought here because apparently it doesn't require one turning in a marriage license to their local municipality so much as just having a marriage license in the first place.

Also it should be noted that a Marriage License is actually not required. And in many cases it is detrimental to the family that actually gets a Marriage License. A Marriage License is essentially an act of signing away many of one's rights and the right's of one's eventual children to the state for so long as one is Married under that License.

This assumes of course that the individual you are cohabitant with is not part of your biological or extended family (brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc...) and that the individual is not the same gender as yourself, at least in most states that this law is applied in.

Wow that is uncategorically wrong. In fact, only 11 out of 50 states in the USA allow for contracted common-law marriage. Most states do not. They will acknowledge those from other states, but if you are living in that state you can't enter into a common-law marriage.

As for gaining common-law just by living together.. also false. You require more than just an extended period of time (no specific required amount in any state that allows it) as WELL as holding yourself out as married (using the same last name, combined household income/bills, etc.) as well as intending to be married.

Holy hell, don't scare all the newly living on their own 18 to 20 year olds who now think they're stuck with that first crush/girlfriend. b:shocked

On topic though... There is the ability to get married legally online, through instant messaging and Skype communication.. but as of yet I don't think there's been evidence of any legally binding marriages through MMO/video game weddings >_>

You require a bit more than just someone dressed as an officiator and some guests.. Considering most states and countries even won't allow you to gain any benefits of marriage until you've met the other person somehow (they do include Skype afaik) I doubt they'd ever hold a MMO/video game wedding binding.
