I just started off playing with a venomancer, but I want to know what points I should stack things onto.

Minimum 3 per level into magic. Minimum 1 every other level into strength.
The rest anywhere you like; but magic is your priority. Veno's are plenty flexible.
Read one of the many MANY guides / threads to get more details.0 -
though there's another thing that guides won't tell you that much but you have to find out on your own sooner or later when you squad for bh or anything else.
Knowing when and how to use your skills.
I find this at par with the importance of toon builds or even more now that one can fc a lowbie toon from 1 to 50+ in an hour then find out in the end that even with the best built and gears possible he still cant pull the job out right.
If you are a veno who will rely heavily on your pet do not powerlevel for your own sake, your pet won't catch up on your level like a myst's summon.
b:sad please don't end up like some venos out there that just herc and cast.0 -
First of all , welcome to the venomancer class.
Like Nine said , better not powerlvl ur veno. Not only ull have pet lvl issues. Veno is a class with many roles in a squad. DD / tanking / debuff / protect squishies. it better to take it slowly , learn the steps , so u can stand out of the many many venos there who just use herc/glacial and spam venomous.
As for the build. pure magic build ( 9 mag 1 str every 2 lvls) is generally the simpliest choice. it provides big pet heals , nice damage from ur skills and a large MP pool.
Vit builds are not bad since venomancer earn 12 HP points per VIT , unlike other magic classes who only earn 10. Usually a basic vit build ( 1 str 7 mag 2 vit) till vit reaches 40-70 gives 420-780 more HP which at early lvls can be a big help. ( Restatting later is an option)
Light armor and heavy armor are also among the choices a veno has ( though generally it is a bit tough to make them competitive enough compared to other classes). It is recommened to start with Arcane Armor , then continue with whatever suits to your playstyle.
Considering pets , the magical thing with this class is that u can use partially anything to get ur job done. There are many pets though that are nice to tame , just for the sake of being top in your role (if u want to be , cause noone will force you). Dark wanderer , Eldergoth Marksman , Glacial Walker , Armored Bear , Petite Sawfly and of course Phoenix and hercules are staple pets that have been tested by many good venos and proved to be adequate to a venos arsenal.
Have fun with venos.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Vit on veno is for lazy people. You can get 420-780 more HP in just a couple high level refines. Earlier in the game people use it as a substitute for equips which at this time sell cheaper than the refines on them during a sale would cost. Those equips are also resell-able so there's really very little cost. Restat on the other hand is like throwing money away for something you only use for a short while, didn't really need, slowed down your solo progress, cost you more for pots, and made you a moochbag to others. Also; all melee classes get more HP per vit.

Vit is bad.
And whats does that have to do with venos, here we compare magic classes. Other melee classes except barbs dont stat VIT anyways, it is just STR/DEX and APS.
Vit may be bad for u , it works for others. Some dont have exceptional merchanting abilities. Vit helps. Restat can be bought with money , gold , cash/credit. Dont see any waste there at least for those who spend their money on other valueless items.
Trying to convince you that Vit builds dont make people *moochbags* as u state , will be pointless cause you will never understand. I can, however ,say that many of those people who are moochbags for you do their job exceptionally in squads. Opinion is a personal matter[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I didn't disagree: I acknowledged it was for moochbags didn't I?Some dont have exceptional merchanting abilities. Vit helps.
If they suck at merching; then they make their coin from playing. If they have crappy equips and atk; they suck at that too. fail - failRestat can be bought with money , gold , cash/credit. Dont see any waste there at least for those who spend their money on other valueless items.
More HP can be bought with money too. - ta da!Trying to convince you that Vit builds dont make people *moochbags* as u state , will be pointless cause you will never understand. Oh, it's no opinion.0 -

So what would make a good melee tank veno? What build would I need for it to be powerful0
-
Big Boobies!!! b:dirty0
-
What would a Tank build be?0
-
If you wish to pet-tank, then full AA is your best bet.
If you wish to tank *yourself* then AA-HA is your only option.
Edit: But if you want to tank a *lot* then venomancer isn't the right class to be.0 -
What is venomancer good for then?0

We're a jack of all trades. Can tank a fair bit of stuff, but not everything, pretty well.
Deal out continuous damage pretty well. (Our spike damage sucks pretty hard)
What we excell at is debuffing things; and that's completely independant of stats.
We were also the best solo class, until the new classes came along and, well, ruined everything.0 -
So what would be a good stat build for a veno, knowing they are flexiable. Magic build?Tough one. ? What do most players pick aswell?0
-
A Kind heart and a good smile makes for a Good veno :-)
That and max your buffs to others for endgame
Pure magic build is what most ive encountered at the 90+ lvl.19k Hp and rising my goal is 20k unbuffed (would love 25k )0 -
Sounds good, pure magic build0

Spike Dmg? - We get more dmg boost from Celestial Eruption than any other mage.
Debuffing things?
Ironwood? - Barb is better, Cleric is comparable, Mystic's is AoE
Amp? - Nirvana squads prefer HF and is AoE, Subsea is AoE
Purge? - Limited use in PvE. I'd rather have a BM with a purge stick in Nirvana than a veno that makes the boss move.
Armor Break? -Not reliable, and other class's pdef debuffs + Tangling Mire are better.
Uber gear is what made other classes able to solo stuff; not other classes.0 -

Amplify Damage stacks with both Heaven's Flame and Subsea Strike. Only the ignorant would ignore the advantage of yet another amp.Armor Break? -Not reliable, and other class's pdef debuffs + Tangling Mire are better.
Sorry, no, ironwood (or other same-icon pdef debuff) + tangling mire can not give more than a 100% pdef reduction, so can not be better than myriad rainbows/demon ironwood, just more reliable (and the latter can be used while tangling's in cooldown.)
Don't believe me? Damage test with pet.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

All amps and no dd's make **** poor dps.Sorry, no, ironwood (or other same-icon pdef debuff) + tangling mire can not give more than a 100% pdef reduction, so can not be better than myriad rainbows/demon ironwood, just more reliable (and the latter can be used while tangling's in cooldown.)

Like I haven't.
1) Myriad not reliable
2) Myriad shorter term debuff
3) Demon Ironwood unreliable and so often overwritten
100+Str Tangling Mire + any other toon's debuffs > veno
Your whole argument is about a veno's value in a squad as a debuffer. Even if you made a case for your debuffs here; you fail because you refuse to acknowledge veno as DD since another DD > debuff only veno.0 -
1 veno amping + 5 high APS sins/BMS > 6 APS sins/BMs, not even counting the damage the veno does with non-debuffing skills. Somebody (probably Solandri) has done the math, if you can't be convinced, it's your loss.
Devour+tangling mire may be better than (level 10/sage) ironwood+tangling mire, but amp+ironwood+tangling mire (or amp+devour+tangling mire, depending on what hit last) is better than devour+tangling mire.
I fail to see how cleric dimensional seal can be considered better than sage ironwood, considering they both have the same damage reduction, but ironwood actually does, you know, that thing you want... I think it's called damage?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Lol, she is right
Ironwood is better since cleric is busy healing and/or can't do as much dam as u can anyways
Don't get why so many ppl wanna be dd
They're a dime a dozen
