Hello all.

Is there a cap to attack and defense levels or are you allowed to have as much att/def levels as possible?

Thank you. b:pleased

You can shard as much as you want without worrying about a cap on it.

There isn't a cap per se, but there is a thing called diminishing returns. The higher you go, the less difference you're going to notice from level to level.

True diminishing returns only applies to defense levels, though. For attack levels, no matter how many you stack, another one will still give 1% more of your base.

Both attack level and defense level have the same linear return once you have more than the opponents defense level / attack level.

Both are diminishing in the sense that a marginal increase is less noticeable if you already have a lot. For instance, giving a bum on the street $100 will elicit a greater reaction than giving Bill Gates $100 despite both being given the same amount of money.

You see the same linear benefit with HP and defense.

Thus why you'll see someone with a low-refine endgame weapon sharded with either Garnets or Sapphires, while someone with a high-refine weapon will shard it with DoTs.

But still even if you have high refines wouldn't a mage benefit more from two icebournes or a physical with drakeflames in weapon? b:shocked

You benefit more from flawless garnet/sapphire than you do from DoT in weapon.

DoT in weapon is a pretty good noob indicator.

that's not the reason someone with high refines shard weapon with dots. it's because they are stupid.

So, is there an actual "schedule" for the dimishing returns for the defense levels?

Please do not necro (post in threads that have been dead for 30+ days).

See the Damage - Attack and Defense Levels for the relevant equations.

Well first of all I think it was a pretty relevant thread for the info I was looking for, and second that equation doesn't give the answer I'm looking for..

More useful would have been if he [thread=698392]linked to the thread instead of the wiki[/thread] perhaps, as it has far more information as to how it was derived and gives some hints on where you might see diminishing returns both ways. Just beware as it's in the Archer forum and I think many of them walk around with portable blackboards... b:dirty

In either case, don't necro threads especially when they're not directly on-topic for your question. Better is to create a new thread and link to the extant thread you think is on-topic and why you think that. b:victory
