A quick guide to not paying too much

It's the same thing everyday in the Perfect World economy. People are wanting to buy, people want to sell. There's a lot of ways to save coins in the game, if you just take a little time. Here's a few things I've found that save me coins.
- 1. Perfect Tokens of Luck
aaaEver wonder why there's so many flawless citrine in the auction house? Yep, somebody is buying 14 tokens and exchanging them for shards. Don't let them profit from that, it's easy to do yourself. Get yourself familiar with what's available through the boutique agent. There's no reason you should buy something from somebody else when you can make it yourself.
a
-2. Mysterious Chips
aaaNever buy a mold or Twilight Temple gold mat without checking to see if it's available from the mysterious merchant in Thousand Streams. Some of the molds and mats you see in the auction house were just purchased from an NPC and are being sold for profit. (note: the items cost chips AND coins. The coin amount doesn't show unless you have the chips. Check pwdatabase to find out prices)
a
-3. Twilight Temple Gear
aaaIf you've spent much time browsing in the auction house, you'll see a lot of gear made by the same people. The reason they do so is because they can make a profit from it. If you or someone you know has a high level manufacturing skills, it's always best to check how much it would cost to buy (or farm) mats instead of just buying the made item. It isn't always cheaper, but it never hurts to do a little math to potentially save some coins.
a
-4. Wines
aaaNeed wines for a bh or fb? Don't assume the only place to buy is from cat shops by the head hunter. You can make wines yourself two different ways. The Eldest Matchmaker in the West District will exchange wedding wines (from the boutique agent for 10 tokens) for dungeon wines. Also in West Arch, an NPC named Mister Tso will exchange mats for wines. So, while you're getting that squad ready, look around for the best deals on wines.
a
-5. Dragon Orbs & Shards
aaaJewelcraftmen NPCs are a very useful way to save money. Before you buy a orb/shard check to see if you can make one for less. Before you buy a Dragon Orb Ocean to refine an item to +6, check to see if you can make a 6-star for less. Orbs are on sale more often than not. And before you buy a Perfect Sapphire Shard, see if you can make one for less by combining flawless shards traded for tokens.
a
-6. Boutique Items
aaaNever buy an item from another player without checking the price of gold in the auction house and the price in the boutique. A common sale item is charms. When a charm is 2 gold in the boutique, it shouldn't cost more than 2x the price of gold in the auction house. Also, try to avoid buying things (especially rep badges) when they aren't on sale in the boutique. With rep badges, you may end up spending 5-10 times the price the seller paid. Don't worry if it isn't on sale right now. Even rep is on sale at least every other month.
a
a
My list is far from complete. I'll add to it as I remember things. The biggest point here is to do a little math and save a lot of coins. There's no reason to pay somebody else to do something you can do yourself.

I agree with most of your points, but the formatting makes it kinda difficult to read. If you space them out better and add some highlighting it would certainly help make the advice more accessible.
The only point I really disagree with is #5. When it comes to refining, nothing beats taking the time to understand how to use Tienkangs and Tishas correctly, especially since they can be gotten for free using Event Gold.
For example, last week I refined my Rank 9 weapon to +10 and the other 4 Rank 9 pieces to +5 each for the cost of 1056 Mirages (cost: ~11 million), 29 Tienkangs (Free from the Tiger Event), 3 Tishas (Free from the Tiger Event), and 3 Dragon Orb Oceans (to get the weapon to +10 after getting it to +7 using the other items).
Even at the currently massively discounted sale prices, that's still a heck of a lot cheaper than using Dragon Orbs.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I was really talking about dragon orbs vs dragon orb oceans up to +6. I've not had much luck with Tienkangs and Tishas, but my highest refine is +6. (I like to be cheap lol)
Thanks KrittyCat for cleaning up the format. I copied it from a text document I made and should have improved it after I pasted it.0 -
Although I know your intentions of this thread are good - to save people coins here and there, it can also negatively affect those people who are making coins from these listed methods b:chuckle I have no problem with this though just to let you know - for many reasons. I feel really bad whenever a faction member or someone on my friend list gets conned this way. But it's one of the many laws of the jungle that you can't change: survival of the strongest. Those who are more knowledgeable and determined are the most successful.
What you are actually doing here is giving a man a fish for one day instead of teaching a man to fish for a life time. You can continue to post more ways that people are using to make money off those not so knowledgeable, but those people will still repeat this mistake for other new items and services that you are not aware of yourself.
The big lesson that you are trying to convey here is: if you are a lazy person and one who is not very knowledgeable about the original source of the items in the game, you get suckered out and end up being taken an advantage of by having to pay more than the item's worth or for a simple service that can be completed with that player's ability. So learn where an item can come from in game before you buy, what's the best and cheapest way to obtain that item.
One of the best tool to use is Microsoft Excel...use it daily for everything, from personal finance, records, calcs, and of course this game....0 -

1- There are also a lot of flawless on the market from Nirvana farmers. Flawless are basically worthless anyway. I used to save them in my bank until someone needs them and I give them away. lol
2- There is nothing at the Mysterious Merchant that isn't going to be cheaper with chips. BH changed that for molds. Chips are really only good if you're going for Lunar mats and 99 gold.
3- A lot of the time you'll see people selling multiples of the same green/gold armor is because they want 4 sockets and will keep making them until they get it. Also, a few 90 greens, 80 gold and 70 gear are so cheap and easy to farm/make that you can actually make a little profit from it, however it's usually just because someone is going for 4 socket max stat and not getting it.I post in forums. This one and others. That's why I post.0 -
7. Catshop/Trading
Check the actual price and/or description of the item before you click OK.
This can save you tons of coin.0 -

Very nice list.
Please, tell me how you get a good price quote on an item that no one is vending. Often I get items from boxes (rares) and it's very difficult to get an honest quote so I can sell it. I'm not greedy, I'll take the average going price but people really try to scam you.0 -
Well uncommon/rare items are hard to price sometimes, also new items, usually new mounts or flyers, tend to sell for a lot more the first few weeks and then drop down to about what others of the same quality are. There isn't an easy way to price rare/new items because many times the only people you see selling them are selling them at outrageous prices (and they never sell).
Best option is to ask your friends and guildmates what your items are worth. I'm a fair merchanter (fair not excpetional b:surrender ) and my faction mates ask me all the time what the value of such and such is, sometimes I can answer sometimes I can't and someone else does.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
