Yes, in loads. You are at the stage where you are learning how to play your character. This means learning how to stay alive and kill the mobs. Read the guides on your class here in the forums. There are lots of opinions.
You might look for a faction/ guild that has some more experienced members you could squad with and learn from. A good faction has 20+ people on during your playing times. They should have some folks in there around your level that should squad with you and help you with your bosses and such as you level up.
Just remember that you will always have tough bosses at your level to fight. I even got killed by a boss last night. b:laugh

I actually never die so I can't really say. I suppose it is common for mere mortals.0

Yes. At your level you will be getting lots of quests with physical mobs, which hurt clerics quite a bit.
When you get quest rewards or gear with sockets, try to put in some sort of garnet shards to add physical defense. You'll probably have gotten some as drops from mobs, and the low level ones can be bought rather cheaply from merchants (the npcs, not player catshops).[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Magic chars should always be in moviment, use Plume Shot, next Great Cyclone, then Plume Shot... if youre fighting against some mob that you know that you will get hit, cast Ironheart Blessing once before of attack.0

Actually, you should start with cyclone for the slow, THEN plume. b:surrender0 -
No, while the Arrow animation reachs the target you have time for cast the slow, this is a thumb rule for magic chars, start with the most long casting time that don't do instant damage, she will do this for a long time untill she replaces ther Plume Shot for Wield Thunder (that's do instant damage, but It's much better than Plume Shot).0

You start with slow because you have channel time, cast time, and aftercast delay. If you start with a direct damage skill and no slow, the mob will be in your face or rather close by the time you get the cyclone off. If, on the other hand, you start off with cyclone, the mob will only be partway to you due to the slow in the time it takes you to cast plume shot and another cyclone (or move after plume).
It's the same reason why sensible archers use frost arrow at the beginning of an attack chain in PvE instead of midway through during the levels where they need frost.
The only times you'd want to go for a high damage skill first as a caster is when you're strong enough to get by without the control skill, someone else has the mob occupied, or the mob in question is immune to your control skill anyways.0 -
Another thing to note, mobs do not react to Plume Shot till after they receive damage. With Cyclone they react just before they actually take damage, so if your channeling is good and the distance is great it might be better to start off with plume shot then cyclone to get two hits in and a slow debuff.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0

Wait you don't understood me, I will explain with a Wizard, since they have more damage skills.
You have used Pyrogram once in your life? Or Divine Pyrogram? This is the kind of skill that do the damage AFTER the animation, just like Cleric Plume Shot. So if you use a skill that do damage AFTER the animation, you still have time for use Gush while the skill is traveling, because the mob will stay stand, for the Cleric they use Great Cyclone.
Now take a skill like Stone Rain or Sandstorm that are the two great sources of damage for Wizards, have you used them once? How they works, after you finish the casting time, the target receives damage INSTANTLY after you finish the cast, meaning that the mob will start to walk soon after you hit him, so he will be alread walking towards you. If you start the casting with Great Cyclone the mob will start to walk towards you while you use Plume Shot, you lose 1free hit, there are mobs that walk super faster, like feline monsters and minotaurs for example and this 1free hit can coust a extra heal that you have to lose MP casting on you.
I don't know any Wizard that like to start the casting with Gush, I use this example with my Cleric and I can tell the difference, Archers should do the same, use their most delayed skill first of use Ice Arrow, but Archers aren't a example here because they use Ice Arrow and kill the monsters with normal hits and use Knockback Arrow if necessary, those guys that youre seeing playing are just noobs, this is just a side-effect of people using heads for level up b:chuckle0 -

We posted in the same time, thanks a lot, finaly someone that understands b:victory
Not all the mobs can be killed doing the same thing, but this example usualy works for everyone.0 -

I never payed attention to that, tho i understand what u wanted to say..
But as cleric u have heals u know? :P Just hit once (Great Cyclone, Plume shot) but cyclone is better if u want to slow mob, then cast 1-2 Ironheart Blessing (IHs) and finish mob heal up with Wellspring surge if u feel mob is still alive.. Good Luck on experimenting^^0 -
Clerics should have a push back skill, It hurts them a lot, but oh well, they have a lot of heals...0

I logged my old cleric just now to test this. With no -chan, the mob would get more hits on me with plume before cyclone. With -chan, plume hits right before cyclone finishes channel. Seeing as the OP is just starting her first char, she has no -chan, and since she's learning to play, learning to slow mobs and avoid them is necessary.
The plume shot animation thing is interesting, I will keep that in mind. But it is not helpful without enough -chan to shorten cyclone to hit very close to when plume does. Otherwise the mob just gets to you and the extra damage is negligible to the time you run back to avoid or heal to, well, heal.
As for knock back, yeah, but that's off topic. Anyways, you can use earthquake on genie to knock back, and you have a slow, heals, and shields. Clerics would enjoy a knockback but it's not necessary.0 -
Well, for me, I like casting 2 IH or 1 IH with plume shell, then plume shot, then cyclone, then plume shot. This works better for me but every cleric has his/her own style of playing so experiment and choose the one that suits you.
And don't forget that you can use genie skills too so take advantage on it. One of my favourite on early stage is the skill Earthquake where you can knock back the mobs that are close to you. But too bad you can't use it on bosses and mini bosses >.>0 -
I learnt in the early days the value of kiting. Being new to mmo's I didnt even know the meaning of the word.
My most used skills early were plume shell and ironheart blessing to stay alive and I used great cyclone endlessly while running backwards to kills mobs. You get in the swing of these and you'll hardly take a hit - beware the ranged mobs when doing this....
I also decided to upgrade my apothecary crafting, to then have good remedies to assist. Those were the days before jones and o-malley's blessings, so just with those to assist you should have no problems.
Also make sure you ask people around you for buffs or even better do you quests in squads. This has the added benefit of teaching you the way other characters work, and how to best interact with them.0 -
The biggest laugh, is when we have been playing (Highs) for so long that we can't remember playing the classes as weak squishies, and then we make newer charis on another server, Like I have.... b:chuckle
Oh, the hilarity of thinking I'm still on my higher lv (HT) SIN, when I was on my newer squishy SIN on (Lost); it especially sucked since I couldn't BP him, ROFL....
Took me a week, too get it through my (Instinctive Lil'Zhenning) Airhead, that I wasn't in Kansas anymore, Toto....b:sadb:cry
Was still way too used to playing it high, and not proving my newbie chari an Ultra! UBER!! Super squishy!!! FrAiL BaBy!!!!.....Died so many times it was ridiculous.......b:laugh0
