What is a squad?

I have only been playing PWI for about 2 days. I have already been invited to join two squads. One said he wanted "to buff me up", and the other just asked me to join without saying anything. What is the purpose of a squad, how do I keep myself in a squad, and how do I know whether or not to join a squad?

a squad (party) is a group of UP to 6 people. You can make a squad with only 2 people.

Group buffs will only be cast on squad members, thus it is common to squad someone for buffs.

People usually squad to do instances (dungeons) together or for some quests.

2 kinds of squads settings >

a "free" squad : whoever picks up the loot gets it, xp is shared according to lvls (higher lvl gets more xp than the lower lvled ones)

a "random" squad : the loot can be picked up by anyone and will be distributed randomly between squad members, xp is shared according to lvls

    hope this helps a bit

A squad is a group of up to 6 characters who share experience gain and loot (at least, under random distribution... under free distribution, whoever picks up a non-coin drop gets it; random it goes to a random squad member, coins are always split evenly.)

Some buffs can only be given to squad members, some can be given to anyone, some can be only used on the casting character.

You stay in a squad until you choose to leave (right-click your avatar and choose Leave Squad), the leader chooses to kick you from it, or everyone else leaves the squad. You can form a squad by selecting another character, right-clicking their avatar (or right-clicking a name in chat, your friends list, or faction list) and choosing Invite to Squad. You may want to join a squad to speed a grind quest, or for help killing a boss.

Thank you both for the clarification. Much less confusion now! :)

One other thing that wasn't mentioned, if you need to kill N of Monster X for a quest, and someone in your squad (who isn't too far away) kills Monster Xs, those kills will count for your quest. This might be why you got that one "silent invite". If the person saw that you were killing the same mobs as he was, then if you squadded together you could probably get your quests done twice as fast (though getting less EXP, SP, coins, and drops, since they're being split between you).

    Hope that helps!
