Hi, I've just recently got back into playing PWI. I've always liked classes that attack from a distance, such as mages and archers, and so I decided to play as an archer. However, I've been reading some threads in this section about how archers are outdated by sins in the PvP aspect of the game, so I was wondering if I was wasting my time. Also, just to clarify, I am very interested in PvP and probably TW, if there's a server that hosts it at UK time xD
P.s. If anybody does reply, can you please try and not use shortcuts for terms? xD I've no idea what anything means, sowwie b:sweat

Sins annoy the heck out of everyone, not just archers >_>.

Archers are not outdated. In smaller scale PK they might have a higher learning curve because they are squishy and don't have the CC capabilies of a psychic/cleric/mystic or the defensive capabilities of a cleric/wizard. However they own in TW, and have the potential to be more annoying than any other class in TW.

The problem with archers is they kinda look bad on paper because their defensive stats (pdef/mdef/HP) is low. In practice it's not quite the same, since paper stats don't tell you how your skills (and your ability to use those skills) factor in. And on that note, sins look pretty bad on paper too; they are also light armor, and many choose to build -int instead of full r9 which means they're even squishier. Sins may be annoying if you're PKing by yourself and one OP sin is trying to farm you, but when it comes to groups and especially in TW their effectiveness is limited to the duration of their IG (Ironguard).

Unfortunately it's true that archers are pretty low on the food chain in terms of 1v1. The melee range nerf and bleh CCs kinda **** us over. But archers are by no means outdated, especially not by sins. I'd give psychics a better chance at that.

To be honest, whenever I played my archers(on HT and LC) none of them were squishy, at all. Maybe that's because I had above average gear on both of them but I never found sins my level(80-90) to be a problem at all. It's when you get to level 100 that they actually become a threat to people who know how to play their class.

Why would level 80-90 sins hurt at all? They can't even wear aps gear, and even if they could, taking 150 dmg 5 times in 1 sec is not a big deal.

If we're not talking about +12 r9 aps sins then sorry, I didn't know we weren't talking about the only situation where sins are useful in pvp. I play in the r9 tier so sometimes I get stuck thinking in that tier. If OP never planned on getting that far then my bad, sins suck.

Even with rank 9 +12 sins are **** outside smallscale PK fights. In TW they seem to die like flies even if they have pro gear.

My point was, that without 5 aps or R9 sins(even rank 8) are not going to be an issue to a decently geared player if said player can play their character. I mean come on, I had beaten R8 sins in PK with a +3 weapon when I still played my veno.

They actually have the option of aps on 5 gear pieces(tome, top, wrists, cape, weapon but that's beside the point.

    I...thought that's what I said but okay.

In case my post was too long to read, I said sins are good small scale, archers are not outdated, and most of it depends on how you use your skills. I hope that's short enough.

You also have to consider which class appears most pleasing to your eye. This is important trust me. b:chuckle

Archers, wizzies and pys are the classes most wanted by TW facs and have the lowest level requirements to enter. Sins have the highest level entrance requirements and many TW facs don't want any more at any level.

Not only are the level requirements for archers advertized on WC lower than sins, if you PM an officer of that fac and tell them your an archer they will often say they'll make an exception for you.

So if you want to get into a TW fac archer is a lot easier. But a lot of archers have sin alts for pve. And a lot of sins get tired of being rejected by facs and make archer alts. So whichever one you pick, you'll prolly make the other one too.

Just cause you killed an r8 sin... it doesn't mean you can kill another. I am sure we all gotten lucky and gotten that supposedly impossible kill... but don't let that get to your head.

Unless you can r9 gear an archer... there is really no point for you to pk/tw. In those two aspects of the game... you'll be competing against the best geared (maybe even best skilled). Without being backed up by at least an r9 of your own... you'll just be writing checks your *** can't cash.
    1. If I kill you; do something about it yourself, don't go complaining to my wife.
    2. If you have less kill counts then me, don't expect me to take pk advice from you.
    3. If you are hiding behind an alt, don't expect me to acknowledge your existence.

My server actually has a few small areas of land that the larger TW factions avoid to give some mid-sized TW factions room to play. Rank-8 is definitely a factor for those mid-sized TWs.

For the big-boy league, a rank 8 archer won't be able to do much more than snipe a few cat clerics which isn't too bad. You can also do some sniping with demon spark but you won't be able to be much of a factor in the front lines like R9 archers are.

The point is... you manage to kill one r8 sin with your +3 veno weapon. Its nothing to be proud of... and that itself by no means prove that non 5aps/r9 sins are a non-issue for "decently geared player" (your words in quotes). A sin with sub-3 aps... +4 r8 weapon... double sparked... will have enough damage to tear through anything below +5/6 heavy and up to +8 robe before the defending player even reacts.

Of course in my world... any decently geared player will have +10 armor. Then again... in my world every sin has 5aps (if not r9) and +12 weapon. So regardless how you look at it... sins are a problem PERIOD.

I think my server used to have 2 lands like that... then all the sudden when I woke up one day... one of those lands is gone. Not sure how long the remaining loner is gonna last. Either way... the guild that holds the supposedly easy land has r9s too. In that case... r8 would be a factor... but it gotta be high refined.
