"Kanji" is Japanese writing using Chinese characters. Almost all Japanese learn to read and write it, much like almost all Americans learn to read and write Cursive.

A word in Japanese can be written several different ways: Romanji (Romanized, IE, using these letters here, IE, oshiri ga itai [my butt hurts],) using Katakana for words that they import from other languages (Foreigners write their names in Katakana), Hiragana, which is used for 'native' Japanese words, and Kanji. So... There being 'Kanji' on the back of a shirt in-game... Well, was it supposed to be Kanji or Chinese? There's no difference, as Chinese writing and kanji are identical (a Japanese person in China can often times read most, if not all, of Chinese signs, building markings, and basic writing).

Therefore, it's impossible to tell if it was Kanji or Chinese in origin, though the translation should help...

I couldn't find a definition for it in a chinese dictionary, although it contains the following characters:


制 system;establish;overpower

覇 rule by might rather than right

according to mandarin tools. :P According to Google Translate it means The Takeover and they take care to capitalize both words. So perhaps this fashion get's it's reference from a film, artwork, or tv show. It's certainly possible though I've never heard of it.

In Japanese it means conquest, domination, or mastery and is pronounced seiwa. (say-wah) It's a suru word, which means it takes the verb する。Suru meaning "to do." As it's a Kanji compound word, it's likely that it's origins is not native to Japan. Meaning there is probably a definition of Chinese I'm just failing at finding it. In regards to chinese people being able to "read" Japanese and vice versa, they may understand the gist of the writing by being able to identify certain characters but they can't basically read it as the pronunciations and grammar are different.

For example,

見ませんでした。

A Chinese person with no knowledge of Japanese would be able to correctly idenify this character 見 as the word look, or see. But they would not be able to read the sentence, because hiragana (every other character there) is not native to China. So they might see that and know I'm using the word see, but they would not be able to read the sentence. Which reads I did not see it, by the way.

Note, I do not speak Chinese (and am therefore unable to provide a fully accurate translation, so this one is ripped off of google. I'm hoping they could get a simple sentence like "I did not see it" correctly.

That's what that same sentence looks like in Chinese according to Google translate. Someone who actually speaks Chinese is welcome to fix it for me. b:pleased
