What is channeling speed vs what is casting time? I know that there is time needed to wait before the spell castes and the time it needs for your character to complete a series of movements before the spell hits the monster. Which one is which?

channeling = winding up before the spell is released

cast time= after the windup, spell is cast, the time it takes to fly in the air to hit the target

    they be different things.
channeling can be altered by skills and gear/items.
cast time cannot be altered by any methods.

No they are not the same. They are two different time periods.
While channeling, you will see a blue bar at the bottom of the screen showing you the channeling progression. (your spell is getting ready)

Casting is when you throw out the spell, its the animation your character will do right before the spell hits.

They are the same depends on what game you are playing in my other rp ther is no channeling only casting.

But this is PerfectWorld, we are in the PWI forums. (hence not talking about other games. )

In PW they are two different things.
Like MagicHamsta said, one you can improve upon with - channeling gear for example, while casting time you cannot change.

Also if you read ANY skills description you will see different times set for channeling and casting. Why would they go through the trouble of writting both SEPERATE times if they were the same thing?

As pand0ra said, they are not the same. Channeling is the blue bar when you use a skill. But casting time can be modified, right? Depends on your range from the mob.

Channeling is the time it takes to gather the energy to cast a spell/skill; the blue bar. It's the modifiable one with -chan gear and the interruptible one. Casting time is the unmodifiable animation of executing the spell/skill. It cannot be interrupted (unless the target dies before casting has finished), but it can be delayed by a stun, sleep, or seal/silence.

Ok well i got a question. Does this mean that you combine both cast time and channel time together to get the total cast time? Or is the channeling the amount of time it takes to charge then uses the skill, and casting is the amount of time the animation last?

Example: Say i have .4 secs channel and .5 sec cast. Does it take .9 before the attack hits,...... or does it take .4 secs for the attack to hit, and .5 secs of animation?

But to answer your question (since it's a legitimate question), yes, if there's .4 channel and .5 casting then it will be .9 before the attack hits.

In this game you can get -chan gear which will reduce the first number, but there's nothing you can do about the cast time. That will always stay the same.
