Damage over time skills

I've been playing PWI for about 5 months, and tested almost all classes to at least around lvl 4x. The exception being mystics (don't care for the fugly devil pet). I got a wizard to 70 but he's about to get retired because the psy is just a lot more fun to play. I like all the strategic possibilities. I think I've finally found "my" class.

On my wiz, at least at his level, I rarely had any use for damage over time skills. I have read that these skills generate less agro, probably because of the damage being so spread out. So should I level these skills to use on bosses? Or just do what I did on my wiz space out the regular attack skills?

I never really had much use for damage over time skills on my wiz, should I have the same mindset here?

I've always been fond of my dot's. b:chuckle Maybe cause I don't really like spacing my attacks that much..me gets bored then. b:avoid. So I use dot's as a way of spacing my direct attacks. Dot's also do full damage in white voodoo. But only time I use dot's in white voodoo is in pk. b:surrender

You could always level torrent to 2 or 3 and see how you like it. Torrent is cheap so no worries there. b:chuckle

using DOT skills is good way of avoiding less aggro on bosses., i only lvled them tho when i could get cheap demon books for them. There nt the best to use., but kinda fun for variation., and yet still do dmg.

the DoTs do full damage through barb turtle, white voodoo, and even air to ground. I love flying above someone, double dotting and watching them die as I fly away b:pleased

I personally maxed out my DoTs and when i cast it i see nt much damage over time, it is pretty useless in PvP as well as it only takes like 200s and both of them together leaves the enemy with 75%. Then I don't know exactly how to use those moves, maybe soulfource has something to do with adding more damage over time but I don't see if it is worth using, in PvP anyway.

Hope a pro psychic at high level can answer me on how effective these skills can be during PvP

I agree with Andrewhall, Damage Over Time (DOTS) in PW are rather weak compared to DOTS in other MMOs. In the MMO I played before this, the DOTS could be devastating.

They tend to be weak in PW, so I use them when I want to contribute to taking a boss down, but don't want to steal aggro, and I use them sometimes as a lead off attack.

My Veno uses them quite a bit to avoid stealing the aggro from my pet.

Torrent and Sand Trap have a weapon damage addon, this means these skills get more powerfull with a better weapon. You should use them when you are in white voodoo and want to deal some damage to the enemy, since they are not affected by attack+defense levels. Other situation to use it would be a cata-barb in TW because this skills ignore turtle- and cleric-bubble damage reduction.

Soulburn on the other hand is a very powerfull skill. With high soulforce your enemy cant do anything while soulburned but running away from you. Even if he uses a genie skill soulburn will tick and it cant be purified. It is the skill of choice when you need to kill a cata-cleric in TW.
