Odd Happenings in GV!

The other day I was doing a GV and we had some very weird things happen. The first thing was that there was no timer while I was holding the first boss. I'm a GV -removed- and I've seen this happen so I wasn't that concerned. (very rarely there will be no 10 min, 5 min, or 1 min warning- you just have to watch the clock).

I called the squad in early since there was no timer. We killed the boss. It dropped all its goodies, and we got the Wave 1 Completion message + the exp. There is no doubt that we killed the boss in time. The quest log also listed wave 1 as being completed.

The 2nd wave starts. We see the "I'm gone with the wind" message pop up. The Harpy was replaced with the Devastator. We were confused, so we decided to continue to see what would happen. Wave 2 stopped at the boss.

So we waited in the instance for a bit to see if anything would happen. Nothing else did.

There was no mob on the Harpy at any time. We checked and she hadn't taken any damage. The Wave 1 boss was completed on time. The "gone with the wind" message popped up right as Wave 2 was coming.

Is this just a glitch I haven't encountered? Or is it something we did wrong that caused this?

"I'm gone with the wind" is the Harpy Wraith's death chatter, and is not directly related to anything beyond its death. The Devastator is a ridiculously overpowered mob that will kill it in fairly short order if it spawns (fun post-failure activity: aggro it yourselves).

The Devastator does actually have to walk down, so there's a narrow window in which you could be late killing the boss but have it dead before Devastator kills Harpy Wraith, which is still a success on that wave - the failure is on Harpy Wraith's death, not the Devastator's spawn. You may just have really bad (or good, depending on your point of view) timing.

If you did, in fact, kill the boss in time I'd just call it an odd glitch where the devastator spawned anyway. Bad luck, I guess?

(Off-topic: I dispute that the timer is absent "very rarely". I'd call it "quite frequently".)

Thanks for the info. I've only seen the timer absent maybe 4 times, but that could just be luck. And I used to spam normal GV every day. This is the 1st time I've had this happen with the harpy.

After reading your explanation, I think I was probably off on the clock and like you said, we might have killed it within that window. Judging from how long the "gone with the wind" message took, I guess we killed it right on the edge of the time allowed? Nobody else has reported anything strange in GV so that makes the most sense.

So is it possible for the harpy to die during wave 2 if you kill it in this window of time? Or was the instance just late getting us the message?

I think it would be possible for Wave 2 to arrive at roughly the same time that the Devastator turns up and kills Harpy Wraith. Any later than the beginning of wave 2 and I'd say no, though.

Do note that this is reasoning based on my understanding of the mechanics of Rebirth - which I've certainly done enough times - and I've never actually experienced killing the boss in that narrow window. My belief of its existence is entirely theoretical (though it does match what you experienced).
