Returning to PWI, is it worth it?

Hello Everyone, I'm an old time perfect world international member from sanctuary who is considering getting back into the game. Actually, I'm very much on the fence about whether it's even worth coming back to because of all of the rumors I've been hearing from friends who still play. So to make this simple I am just gonna make a list of questions and/or statements about my concerns and anyone who has an opinion please feel free to comment.

It will really help me decide if coming back is worth it or not.

1) Last time I was part of PWI it had a serious lag/rubberbanding issue that was not addressed to for a while, has that situation been fixed or even improved or has it remained the same or (god help us) gotten worse?

2) One of my BM friends stated that, Barbarians with axes are now useless for high levels and have been completely replaced with 'ClawBarbs/IntervalBarbs' except for in TW wars. Please tell me this is not true considering my main is a lvl 101 Barb that uses axes...

3) With the added expansion, did PWI GMs also improve the engine it runs on, or did the added classes and areas only weigh down the game even more then the Rising Tides expansion did?

4) Two part question here: Is TW still dominated by a single faction now or has it become more evenly distributed between factions? Is the reward for winning TW still Mirages with a much lower coinage quality then in previous patches?

5) Is PK no longer fun due to... how do I explain this... little ******* that complain about pk like 'dude-why-you-gank' or 'stop-killing-me-Im-not-in-pk-to-fight' or really stupid stuff like that where everyone just sits out of safe zone and stares at each other like dumbasses?

6) Are the only ones who fight those who have gotten all the high rank gear with money and just kill those who don't or low levels? (aka: only persue really UNFAIR fights)

Please feel free to be painfully honest with responses, I could use any information to help sway my opinion and don't forget to vote on the poll so i can tally the opinions.
Who needs a Signature anyways? :P

There is a bunch of other threads with this exact same title. And ones from new players.

And for replies you get a bunch of spam here saying no. Some comments about 5APS, updates (or lack thereof), game inbalances, and so forth.
And then you'll get the counter argument from a few others.
The same argument thats in the other threads asking this exact same question.

This forum population in no way represents the majority of the PWI playerbase. And honestly.......log in, play a couple days. If you like it, great, stay and play. If not, find another game to go to.

    1. It's still and I dont think they'll get rid of it, it has become apart of the game essentially. Seems like people gave up hope of it ever getting fixed.

    2. Kinda true, theres are definitely about of barbs going interval. If you gonna be axe barb in today's pwi you're gonna have to have the best armor, Nirvana or rank9 for anyone to really take you seriously. Even then you maybe still wont get into those random nirvana squads.

    3. No, its the same crappy engine. The new area is pretty pointless since you dont really need to go back there and you leave that area around lvl 20 anyway lol. The two new classes are pretty much fluff is like they made them just to say they have something new. Seekers and Mystics don't really do anything better than what other classes can. And sins and psychics are still op.

    4. No, they changed it back to money, but depending on your server, it is going back to a single faction owning all the land pretty soon. Even though they totally reset the lands.

    5. Umm pretty much people still QQ, with the way pwe is been selling rep(power) there are now alot of rank 9 people now, They pretty one shot almost anyone with lower gear than them, if not that they still own them. PK is fun until the rank 9 comes out and one shot everyone with their cash shopped gear.

    6. I've been pked by rank 9 and my cleric is only hh90 gear lol so yea. I dont think they really care what your gear or level is a rank 9 is gonna kill you if they want to. I havent played this game in a while but I have never seen two rank 9 people actually fight each other really. Only rank 9 easily killing people without rank 9.

I wouldn't recommend u to come back... Unless, u're ready to blow $$ in this game...
at least for the server I played (HT), for nirv, they want 5 aps with +10 refinement at least..

For NV I run often with barbs who aren't claw. As long as you have your buffs and devour I think barbs are good in NV as they are without the need of 5aps. As for TW I have no clue as I am not on that server same with pk really. As of late I haven't really been seeing to many problems with the whole rubberbanding issues.
All generalizations are false, including this one.

    1) Sometimes I think they fixed it, sometimes I think it's still there. I haven't had real rubberbanding issues in quite a while now. My toons drop from max hight to the ground with no issues, just sometimes a slight rubberbanding still occurs though. For lag, really depends on the day (for me).

    2) For me it's true. Ofc, as a normal vit barb you can still have fun with your friends/faction, but don't expect to be asked for much besides (bh) delta and maybe metal (but that is done without barbs now too). If you still remember who I am, this comes from someone who retired his barb for that same reason. This is just my opinion, but barbs have to be either r9 +10 with vit stones with the old fashion kitty build, or "aps" to be "wanted by the community". I recently made my barb a fist build for this reason. Barbs mainly became a buff goon class (no matter what you do, you won't tank anything), so fists is to do more damage after you buffed till end of instance. Keep in mind this is a highly biaised opinion of an old barb player, who turned sin, and hopes to 1 day get a real need for tanks (aka barbs) again.

    3) Like said above, don't think they changed anything there. Not an expert on those things.

    4) It's money again I think. And on Sanc, it's several factions and probably will stay like that for a little while. It's like 4 main factions, with here and there a land in hands of some smaller one for a week or so. Those main factions are pretty much at equal strenght, that is why I think it won't flip in balance for a while. None is strong enough atm to hold half a map, and keep the other big factions from picking it back.

    5) For me pk never was worth it, because there are always (in any game) a few ppl with 5 yo behaviour that take the fun out of it. Those comments you talk about are still there. There are even more ppl with super gear like r9 (no matter how they got it), that just 1 shot everything and anyone to feel soooooooo strong.

    6) Usually, ppl with r9 don't pk those who actually are a challenge for them. Out of the r9 that pk, I saw 2 kinds : first that is in pk just for the lolz of it and attack only their friends (with r9), second are those who got r9 because they were bullied on in kindergarden and smash down every not-r9 they see while running like mad from anyone that would represent a challenge. The average time of a fight is about 4 sec. Like I said, I don't care at all about pk.

Some brighter part : Lately, I got surprised by PWE actually seeming to start to care about the state of game. They added a special "caster vana" to make up for casters never being able to get inside the normal version (not going to start a debate on if it's a good or bad instance, I think the idea of putting it in is good). They fixed the map and a number of skill descriptions that were bad for ages. They fixed stuff in rebirth. There are words of a "nerf" that would affect aps classes (if this fix will be put in, all barbs with demon hp buff will be seen as gods btw). The current pack and orb sales got decent prices. So there seem to be some good.

The main problem for me, is that the playerbase just only wants the best of the best for anything. You are always asked for weapon link or aps. That makes the game kinda harsh for those with average gear, or for some classes to do anything their class isn't specialized in.

Nobody has mentioned this yet, but Rubberbanding has been fixed.

you will occasionally get stuck momentarily in a spot, however, if you stop trying to move, then move again, you will get unstuck. .5 second rubberbands maybe once a day, twice if you're unlucky, vs the 2 hours a day of rubberbanding that it used to be.

Not sure about the R9 debate. My faction (Watchers) and Omerta had a TW today and we won quite quickly (my value was negligable due to my level) - last week it was a draw lasting the three hours. Anyway there weren't a lot of R9 in either team as far as I know and everyone still had played a part - killed some and got killed some....

I think if you play a barb well, you will find yourself very popular - there arent a lot of barbs around because many people rolled sins. You will find plenty to do if you want.

Considering all of the recent blunders by the developers poorly implemented in game... I can see why there are far more players against the game then wanting to promote it as a good game. I sure hope the GMs pass this info to China as it seems the game appears to be in a downward spiral. We all know there will never be a game where people dont have complaints but I sure hope the developers, programmers, GMs, and management wake up to the fact there are some serious complaints which people are finding to be game changing and reason to consider not playing.

Haven't had those in a while, only very rarely.
    2) One of my BM friends stated that, Barbarians with axes are now useless for high levels and have been completely replaced with 'ClawBarbs/IntervalBarbs' except for in TW wars. Please tell me this is not true considering my main is a lvl 101 Barb that uses axes...
I don't farm anymore so can't say. Mostly just come for TW.
    3) With the added expansion, did PWI GMs also improve the engine it runs on, or did the added classes and areas only weigh down the game even more then the Rising Tides expansion did?
I don't lag, not sure about somebody with different specks & connection.
    4) Two part question here: Is TW still dominated by a single faction now or has it become more evenly distributed between factions? Is the reward for winning TW still Mirages with a much lower coinage quality then in previous patches?
Mirages pay is reverted back to $. On Sanctuary there are a few factions on the map at the moment. One of them is stronger than others but we are doing our best to prevent them from spreading too much, & they seem to be more interested in harassing our faction than map domination.
There's always that... I like they put SP as pk enabled (though PWI is reverting it to non-pk soon due to low lvls not being able to quest) you could pk there without losing items or Guardian Scrolls. However, if you haven't played in a while there would be lots of OP ppl with better gear who might 1 shoot you.

    6) Are the only ones who fight those who have gotten all the high rank gear with money and just kill those who don't or low levels? (aka: only persue really UNFAIR fights)

There's that... However, there are also a lot of players with very good gear as well that got it without CSing and can kick their ***** back.

    1) Last time I was part of PWI it had a serious lag/rubberbanding issue that was not addressed to for a while, has that situation been fixed or even improved or has it remained the same or (god help us) gotten worse?

I remember this aswell. It is only still present in the extreme cases such as walking off a nearly vertical cliff, otherwise it's pretty much gone.
    2) One of my BM friends stated that, Barbarians with axes are now useless for high levels and have been completely replaced with 'ClawBarbs/IntervalBarbs' except for in TW wars. Please tell me this is not true considering my main is a lvl 101 Barb that uses axes...

Due to the fact that other melee DD classes (except seekers) have access to 5 aps and thus massive damage, standard barbs are indeed slightly useless since they cannot hold aggro off of them.

    3) With the added expansion, did PWI GMs also improve the engine it runs on, or did the added classes and areas only weigh down the game even more then the Rising Tides expansion did?

    The engine has not changed.
    4) Two part question here: Is TW still dominated by a single faction now or has it become more evenly distributed between factions? Is the reward for winning TW still Mirages with a much lower coinage quality then in previous patches?

The TW map has seen a reset with the Genesis expansion and (at least on my server) the map hasn't been dominated by a single faction since. It's bound to happen again, though.

TW pay has also been reset to what it used to be.

    It's pretty much exactly that.
    6) Are the only ones who fight those who have gotten all the high rank gear with money and just kill those who don't or low levels? (aka: only persue really UNFAIR fights)

People still seem to mostly want fair fights, but it kinda only takes a single r9 +12 to ruin everyone's fun (if any fun is actually present, because... above).

    All in all;

Return for PvE? Meh, I guess so.

    Return for PvP? lolno.

Unless you wanna pump a s**t load of real money into the game, don't come back.

you'll also always get little w****rs QQing about being killed by players on player kill servers even when it's fair and square because they enjoy ruining our fun instead of going to a pk optional server and staying out of our way.

Only responding to the questions that I have some info on... (I don't PvP).
    1) Last time I was part of PWI it had a serious lag/rubberbanding issue that was not addressed to for a while, has that situation been fixed or even improved or has it remained the same or (god help us) gotten worse?
Some rubberbanding has definitely been fixed, while some of it has merely improved or stayed the same. I don't think it will ever entirely be removed since it's a side-effect of preventing jump-hacks, but it's definitely better.
    3) With the added expansion, did PWI GMs also improve the engine it runs on, or did the added classes and areas only weigh down the game even more then the Rising Tides expansion did?
There haven't been any improvements to the PWI engine, but the Genesis areas don't seem as CPU/GPU intensive as the main Tideborn city is.

I have heard one person claim that China recently got an improved client/engine (here), but without further evidence I'd put that in the "unlikely rumor" category.
    4) Two part question here: Is TW still dominated by a single faction now or has it become more evenly distributed between factions? Is the reward for winning TW still Mirages with a much lower coinage quality then in previous patches?
No and no. There was a map reset a few months back, and I don't think enough time has passed yet for it to even be possible for a single faction to dominate the whole map (though we're probably getting close at this point). Also, the TW rewards were reverted back to coins, in the form of 10 Million Big Notes.

I'd say, try it out and see if it's still fun. That's the real test.

    Hope that helps!

As someone who is currently playing an up & coming barb, I can say we are still wanted for severeal things, just not really needed for most :P Granted p/u Nirvy squads don't seem to want anything but absolutely decked out aps, but if you're the type of person to make friends & get into good factions you'll manage just fine. They did increase our FR aggro awhile back, so although 5 aps can easily steal aggro, it's much more managable now if the group intends to have you tank.

The game itself, well it has indeed changed. Not sure people even know what zen squads were anymore:P Most notable change IMO is everyone now roles sins to solo farm things like FC & TT instead of veno's, and there is no such thing as a perfect squad anymore. Many roles are interchangable with the current classes available.

There is plenty of fun to be had if your mindset allows. If you need to be the "best", then prepare to spend 1000's or ragequit b:chuckle If you just looking to have fun, there is still a very active community to be part of!

Its fun if you don't let "power" and "money" get to you.

In most, if not almost all, cases, it gets everyone.
