Why carebears? Why not Smurfs?

I've seen a few of the pro-PvP supporters referring to the pro-PVE supporters as carebears.

Wouldn't smurfs make more sense?

Smurfs is more appropriate since most PvE'ers are blue-named.
Smurfs is shorter to type.
Smurfs could still be considered insulting as they are small and weak(I assume the carebears thing is supposed to be insulting)

Maybe there's something special about the carebears name that I'm not getting, so I'll post a poll and see what everyone else thinks.

    its because generaly carebears are hated more then smurfs.

    "Smurf" is already a term in computer gaming for the alternate account of an experienced player.

    I do agree that "carebear" is a little out of date. Those have gone the way of the cabbage patch dolls and rainbow brite.

    I somtimes like to use it as a smurfin replacement for a certain word that rhymes withpuck and isn't at all appropriate around small children.

    Cripes. It's been carebears back since the MU* days.

    Smurfs is used for... I guess in this game the role GMs take would be the closest. Community advisors with no real in-game power.

    Crikey, the felucia/trammel wars are coming back to me now. RPer guards with fishing rods hemming greifers in.

    Uh, yeah. Anyway. Carebear has a long history to it. And now you've got me reminded of 'llama' and that is SO the perfect name for all the FC-powered idiots.

    Carebears love everybody.
    Smurfs just like the help, but otherwise prefer to keep to themselves in their little circle jerk clique in some forest out back.

    Either is acceptable for me, I loved both cartoons when I was a kid.

    Actually, I have a Papa Smurf, a Baby Hugs, a Rainbow Brite, and a Cabbage Patch Kid doll still at my parents' house.
