So hi there everyone! I have a quick question, but i'm new to the barbishness and have been wondering something.

Is it normal to die A LOT in your lvl 25+?

I mean i have a cleric on Raging Tides, so i'd be lying if i told you i wasn't used to dying a lot, but i have issues surviving for very long on my barb since i got passed 25. So is that just a me fail, or is that normal?

Sorry for the noobish question fellow barbs, but i've been curious. b:embarrass b:surrender

So yeah ^^ Thanks for your time and stuff! :D

IMO, all melees have trouble.. including wizzies in their lower levels.

1, because everyone is squishy and theyre normally getting hit either way.
2, the difference in some things, arcane is so close to heavy at low levels your almost hit for as much as a mage... which sucks.
3, hp isnt that good low
    4, damage sucks low.

It gets better when you get your higher skills, due to the awesomeness they radiate... Mighty swing and arma b:dirty

Yes, you will die quite a bit since you're facing magic mobs a lot:P Good luck. If you manage to pull thru it will get better with time!

Not to try to sound pro or whatever (I'm not), but no, my barb only dies against dungeon bosses or if I'm dumb and go AFK in a hostile area. What's killing you? How is your barb built? We can offer more specific advice with that info.

Be sure to take on one monster at a time. If you do get swamped, just go True Form and flee. No shame in that. Learn what monsters in your area is aggressive and which ones aren't. Most monsters aggro after 10 meters, which is roughly half a caster's range (obviously depending on the caster, skill level, and spell, but most attack spells seem to be 18-25 meters in range, hovering around 20ish).

Alacrity is good because most magic mobs that are aggressive will start casting when you get close because they sense you enter their aggro radius before you get within melee range. Some run, learn which ones these are and try to control them so they don't run you into a group of monsters. Runners usually go directly away from you, so put yourself between them and an aggro nightmare and they'll run away from it.

You can guess the style of new mobs by their evasion. If you're a tank barb with minimum Dex, you'll notice a huge difference in your chance to hit. Against melee mobs you will have 70-80% chance to hit, while against magic mobs you will have 80-90%.

Max out Feral Regeneration when you can. It will help ease some of the damage you're taking (since you'll regenerate during the fight) and drastically reduce your downtime.

Try not to solo in true form. It may not be fun, but simply auto-attacking in human form is faster, especially once you hit level 3 True Form and it's cutting your damage in half. Find squishies like assassins and casters. They'll appreciate someone else taking the damage and you'll appreciate killing monsters in a quarter of the time it will take to do it yourself.

Resign yourself to the fact that you're going to spend a ridiculous amount of coin on gear. Not only do you need to buy new gear just like everyone else, but the sheer amount of hits you'll be taking will cost you. You can handle the beatings just fine; your armor can't. It's not something most characters consider, but a dungeon run is much more expensive to a barb than other classes and even the barb himself might realize. Assuming he's doing his job and no one else is getting hit much, his armor has suffered the durability damage of an entire dungeon's worth of monsters. That is not cheap. You won't kill monsters very fast, since you're not a damage dealing class, so you'll be taking a lot of durability damage. Just suck it up and do your best to keep your gear in tip-top shape. Because the warnings appear on the right side of the screen, under the hotkeys, you might be wandering around with broken gear, which can severely damage your survivability.

Mostly, though, it's situational awareness. Take one monster at a time, rest when you're about half life, and you should be able to handle just about anything level appropriate. Slow and steady is the barb way, not blam blam crit crit crit aoe.

**Barbarian contract. Chapter 1, page 4, paragraph 4.**

    Frequent death is guaranteed. You will die for many reasons including, but not limited to;
Overzealous DD's who think they can tank anything,
Overzealous DD's that think YOU can tank everything at once,
    Fail clerics,
    Death of clerics,
Cleric going AFK or DCing mid-fight,
    Getting in over your head,
Trying to save fools who don't deserve saving,
Magic mobs/bosses you have no business fighting but do so anyway,
Lack of attention at the wrong moment during pull or fight,
Sudden lag at the wrong moment during pull or fight,
lack of chi/mana at the wrong moment during a pull or fight,
And the overall hazards of being the main tank.

    **Closes book.**

Joking aside, I agree with Jeigo. Patience, situational awareness, and that rare quality known as common sense will fix a lot of your problems. Also, make a real effort to learn your limits. As a barb, I know where my limits are, how much I can take, and when to run for my life. (Plus I now have crab meat, and a good genie to save my neck, but that's another story).

Fact is, between 20 and 40, everything's hard. The mobs are getting stronger, you're still without good skills and/or they aren't upgraded yet, and your gear really isn't shining just yet. Carry pots for emergencies, but mostly, just fight smart. Even now, I do a lot of grinding in tiger form because I live better, not to mention running faster. When I was your level, I did a lot of meditating after fighting a mob or two. Drove me nuts, but I lived.

Keep at it. Once you get above 30, things will start to change. The low levels feel like a battle sometimes. But it is SO worth it once you get past them.
"Impatience walks with disaster." My own phrase.

"Let the winds of winter come. I fear not famine, nor blizzard, nor an army of predators. For I am wolf. My power is matched by the many that stand beside me. Come what may. I have faced it before, and it has yet to touch me." *The Alpha's Warning*

    Pro tip, improve gear.

I literally started in Closed Beta, so I got to level before hypers existed and also before Frost was an EXP instance. Did I mention that BH's did not exist either?

I had no will to cash shop, and farming seemed boring, and so did questing, so I would PVP the day away.

Now albeit I leveled using mostly crazy stone, literally, like 90% of my exp to 70 was crazy stone. I did quest, and I would LITERALLY wear armor that I would buy from a tailor in any town until I was level 80. Which is roughly when BH's came out. (Yes I was slow to level, only crazy stone remember?)

I would die a BUTTLOAD. It really, really, really sucked. My friends list was literally 80% clerics. It didn't help that I had 3 vit, and a zerk poleaxe that I had found from some mob.

At 80, this lovely guy Sinep gave me full HH80 gold, and we full socketed it with G8 Cits and +4'd most of it. I had never had refined gear before... Boy does it make a difference!

I literally went from hourly deaths to biweekly deaths, in PVE.

Now, with +12 2nd cast axes and GoF, I only die in PVE when I try to be a champ and tank entire instances. Or when Amour doesn't heal me when he says he will, when I tab out of game, grrrrr,

    Hope for you yet.

    Lots of Litteraly

I dont know if he's serious, but improving gear before level 90 is a waiste imo.

I, as a poor player decided to save every dime that i could in the lower level to be able to be competitive pre-endgame.

I started playing march 2009, and by the time BH got introduced (Age of Spirits) i was already level 70, cuz my first BH that i remember was FB 59.

I have never used a hyper stone before level 86. I stopped levelling for a while at level 85 to farm some gammas, cuz i made good money out of it, but when by mistake i forgot to pour my XP into the genie and i leveled out gamma while doing it, i used some hypers to get me to 89 and pick my demon culti.

In my memory i can say that i had NEVER had problem in PVE and i could count my deaths on 2hands. And i mostly quested alone.

Again, mobs are no hard if you take em the right way. Aim for the lonely one or face the one that is close to the crowd in the opposite direction of the rest of the group, so u wont have problem like mobs joining the fight.

The equip i used was mostly QUEST REWARDED or dropped, so you can go just fine with that.

In the end it just takes a lil practice

EDIT: One last thing, i remember i stopped doing CS daily at level 60, cuz 24k for that XP was too much to afford for me if i hadnt the time to grind em.

Dying to one mob means something's wrong. Only handful of reasons exist for dying prematurely - (a) aggroed too many mobs (b) you didn't click on attack b:shocked

Solutions to both: (a) HP Pots at low levels (b) meditation - i know it takes time but loss of a few seconds is better than loss of exp (c) run away when in danger - you got 4 legs for a reason (d) use skills effectively - by skills i mean your barb skills and genies - as other barbs had pointed out, cancelling mag attacks helps (alacrity ftw) and secondwind/ToP on your genie will save your tail almost always.

Most likely you're facing multiple mob situations with a few of those mobs being magic/poison mobs.

If you have the confidence to do so, face them all but assign priority to the magic mobs. Kill them first. Then prioritize runners and ranged. Then melee. In other words, kill one mob at a time. FR is one of the best DoT attacks and it is your friend so USE IT!
