Simple question, complex answer

I am about to start a character for a family member. I understand this game is based on being the best at something, you need to have at least one character maxed out with the best gear, rank or otherwise.
that being said.
what would be a good character to make to be cheap yet effective
I want everyone's opinions.
I basically want to start them something that they can max out eventually and not put a dime into but still enjoy the fun stuff at 90+
something that can live off of basic gear.
Able to solo basic stuff and eventually be invited to high level things.
Thoughts? and why..
Thanks
~S.J.
Edit: Not a Cleric, no offense to clerics but as you can tell by the one i am posting on, they are not fond of them.
and it should be obvious, but if not ... this character will be on a PVE server.
that being said.

The 'fun stuff at 90+' is mostly PVP, TT/HH runs, Frost, Nirvana. The class that gets into all of these except PVP is cleric.
something that can live off of basic gear. Eh, there's not really any class that is better than other class at being good with bad gear.
Able to solo basic stuff and eventually be invited to high level things. Most soloable class - Venomancer and Mystic. Invited to squads - Cleric, Barb (barbarians and clerics are kind of expensive though..not in the real money sense, but there are a lot of in-game costs for these two)
Thoughts? and why..
Thanks

If we're talking about a young family member, they may not have the temperament for a cleric. Being a cleric means you're responsible for keeping everyone alive (at least that's what your squad members stupidly think anyway), so they can cop a lot of flak if they arn't up to the task.
A barb might be a better alternative. A barb is the tank class, but if they fail in their tanking duties it's usually still the cleric that gets blamed xD
However being barb still has it's responsibilities of course.
If they want a totally care free experience, a magic DD class is the way to go (wizard, psychic, venomancer, mystic), but all of these have trouble getting into the higher level instances.Semi-retired due to continuing mind boggling displays of stupidity from PWI0 -
Cheap, effective..
Basic gear, solo everything..
I don't see this working out.
Sins, BM's/barbs with BP, and herc veno's come closest but there's no cheap at all in any of those options. If you want to be cheap, you get a cheap character. Simple as that.0 -

Problem with Barbarian is that you need to have great gear all the way down, or you'll suffer. and if you become a tank you probably need rank 8 , also they suck at solo'ing due to the fact you cant kill stuff by yourself.
Good thought, but i believe because we have a pretty high level barb in the family that one is out.0 -

Yeah..this.
It's like asking going to a computer store and asking for a laptop that has 4TB hard drive, 1GB graphics cards, Quad core i7, long battery life, and cheap. =/
You get what you work/pay for.
It's always going to be like this even in the most casual of games.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Janus is right
There's no class that has the best of all those worlds, you're going to lose out of some.
The best solo PVP class is Venomancer.
But they do not excel at getting into squads like cleric or barbs do, as they are designed that way.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Check my post again I edited it. But don't forget rank 8 used to be incredibly hard to get, and barbs were tanking high lvl instances with TT90/99. Barb really doesn't need as good gear as you think provided they are pure vit (of course they can't tank the really elite stuff without good gear though)Semi-retired due to continuing mind boggling displays of stupidity from PWI0

This post is far more useless than any other post in this thread.
I gave you my opinion, you asked for it.
You're not going to get the class that gets everything that you want.

And yeh what you quoted is pretty much the bottom line. If you want a truly balanced RPG experience, you need to go with a single player RPG like Oblivion or the upcoming Skyrim.Semi-retired due to continuing mind boggling displays of stupidity from PWI0

You also need to be more specific.
This game is diverse. "Effective" can mean many things. Different classes are effective at different things.

So you want to be welcome into end game squads but not as an ep? Well find a visa or mastercard because that's an aps character or sin.
Personally, I hate ep's playing them is boring but I use my cleric for nv's tt's and bh's and i'm still very welcome in most squads.Siggy from bellefleurs.

I cited exactly what you posted that wasn't blabbering about your friend and ambiguous interpretations of whatever the hell "maxed out" means.
Easy/lazy way out = crappy hyper leveled character who doesn't know how to play and gets booted from squads.
Read some guides or something-- I mean, have your "family member" read guides, play the classes, and figure out which type of character they most find fun. It isn't difficult.0 -

Cleric, veno and possibly mystic.Jams_/ault - Dreamweaver wrote: »Able to solo basic stuff and eventually be invited to high level things.
Cleric.
So obviously the cleric is the only one that fits all your criteria.
Don't want to play one? Well, that's your problem then.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
This is my fault i guess i did not ask the right way so feel free to close this post.
was basically asking for what class was cheapest to maintain, able to solo and do the normal PWI experience (questing except for FB and cultivation ) but eventually be invited to things that other players enjoy.
maybe wanted by others to help with the aforementioned.0 -

People want everything to be spoonfed to them easily. And when they get a legitimate answer that they simply don't like, they start to get annoyed...which annoys me.

"Nirvana" is the best instance to make money atm. Requires you to be lvl 100. Mostly Sins, BMs and Clerics and sometimes, Venos get to go. Barbs and other casters are usually left out. Unless you have friends willing to take you. Sins/BMs need to have good gear, decent gear wont get you in, people want high APS. (again, unless you have friends to go with.)
"Twilight Temple" is a good alternative to those who don't get to go to Nirvana. Basically all classes get to go. A Veno with a "Hercules pet" however, can solo it, with decent gear. But you should know, a Hercules pet costs.. a lot.
"Forgotten Frostland" is where you go to get loads of exp after 80+. BMs, Barbs, Sins and Clerics are usually preferred. The other classes get to go as well but not as much preferred as the others.
For all the above three instances, there are always people who want people with the best gear, a particular class or whatever. And there are always people who don't really mind having anyone.
tl;dr - Each class has it's own pros and cons. Some get to do stuff that others can't. Just pick what you like and go with it.0 -
^ Yep. Most of us already ask the question the OP does, the most for the least while retaining fun. OP doesn't understand, nor will they until they figure it out for themselves beyond this topic, that you still need to play to figure out what you enjoy, and others can't just simply tell you how to have your cake (i.e. what type of class/build) and eat it too (enjoyment).0
