Rough Fur...

I have killed OVER 200 (no exaggeration either) of those Sapphire Plainshark Dons. I have only received from them TWO rough furs.

....2!

According to the PWI Database webpage at
http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/items/831 it states the percentage to drop is 17.4265%

However, I'd like to announce that at my current rate, it is less than 0.01!!!! (<1%)

I am a level 39 killing these level 37 creatures... according to everything I have read, I am more that within the parameters to receive the drop rate (parameters: 3 below and 2 above the monsters level), even at half that would be 8.71325% and that would at least give me 17-18 Rough Furs but 2??? Come on something must be tweaked or this is the bad end on the law of large numbers. Can anyone confirm that it is truly a 0.17 rate? This is insanity (according to Einstein) at its finest.

    i can't guarantee that it's a 0.17 probability, i haven't kept good enough track. but when i've grinded on them while in their level range, i've certainly seen a much greater than 1% drop rate for rough furs. you're either having record-breakingly bad luck, or their rough fur drop rate has been tweaked far downwards since i last killed them --- which, i will admit, was several patches ago.

    your actually reading it a bit wrong

    it has a 17% chance to drop them, IF you get an actual, non coin drop

    however, 59.6597% of the time, you just get coins or nothing

    of the other 40% or so, you have a 17% chance of that being a rough fur

    if you click on the mob info itself, you will see 2 things
    the Default drop rate, is a touch over 17%

    however, look at the Real drop rate
    thats what you go buy, and thats around 8%

    granted, you still have had quite bad luck, but it is not as extreme as you think
    keep at it, it should even out over time

    edit: i did quite a bit of grinding on those, and although it was a while ago, they did drop often enough, you should get more if you keep at it

    The chances NEVER matched those sites, sorry.

    And yes- it dropped at 17% 2 years ago, now it is lowered to 1.7% imo

    I see how I mistook to the websites info thank you for that info.

    Just bumming that to make 100 copper bars I'm going to need 200 rough fur
    and now I know its going to be thousands of those fishes just to get them...

    Can't wait to start farming for the glue... OY!

    Just out of curiosity... what level are you? If you're considerably above the mob's level, the drop rate is going to be decreased quite a bit.

    Update:

    last 200 kills were kept track by using the "one-man army" level 37 quests.

    each number the results out of 20 kills
    each line is 100 kills

    4/2/4/3/1 = 14 out of 100
    4/5/4/5/5 = 23 out of 100

    37 out of 200 (/ 2 = 16.5 WOOT! close enough to 17.something for me!)

    Also, still level 39.

    hate the fact that at 14:100 rate, its going to be 1,485 sharks just to get 200 rough fur... but oh well. Now I understand why people can sell 100 rough fur for 1.2 million at the auctioneer and then it disappears an hour later...

    blacksmith seems to be the most expensive of the crafting skills to level from what i can tell, ad fur/leather seems to cost more then the other mats

    here is a tip as well

    if you want to farm all you need, and not level to 40, when the drop rate will start going down, you can infuse your exp into your genie

    this can keep you at level 39 as long as you want

    also, realize that 2x drops are on now, so your getting more then is usual drop rate

    I feel your pain bro b:chuckle

    Right now I'm farming concentrated glue and the 2x really makes a difference: I'm getting 20 glues per hour (or so) killing lupine berserkers and snakevalley hexwraith, it's alot considering that before the 2x I was getting nothing.

    The drop rate of the two mats are kinda the same, so I hope I still get the same luck with the rough furs.
