Are You Sure This is the Best Tank Pet?

So my boyfriend and I both have multiple venos. He has an arcane and a heavy armor veno, and I have an arcane and a heavy armor veno. We've always come across cat shops with signs saying "Best Tank" or posts on forums labled "The Only Pet You Will Ever Need". I'm pretty sure by now everyone knows what was written in the post was about the Glacial Walker, and that the cat shops contained Glacial Walkers for sale at ridiculous prices. So we decided to put this pet to the test. We leveled up a Crystalline Magmite to level 19, and we leveled up the Jaden (I think it was called) Qingfu to level 19. We caught the Glacial Walker and gave all these pets full loyalty.
Now, we let the buggy learn Fleash Realm to give it a chance and kept that at level 1 because the only skill he came with was Boost.
So we took our pets somewhere safe and the map and dueled them. The results went like this:
Crystalline Magmite vs Glacial Walker
The Glacial Walker won, but only by a little bit. We dueled these two pets more than once, and the Glacial Walker won every round, but we think this was because he attacked first. Only their first skill was ever used in the fight. No other skills were used.
Jaden Qingfu vs Glacial Walker
So we tested this one out various times as well because I wanted to get a screenshot after we were sure it wasn't just because of luck. Now, the Glacial Walker only used his first skill, and the buggy only used level 1 Flesh Realm to make things fair. In the end, the Glacial Walker was beaten multiple times, and the buggy still had a fair amount of health left.
If anyone needs the screenshot to prove this, I will gladly post it. If anyone needs a video to prove this, I will try to work out a video if I can figure out how to use those programs that allow you to record.

Pet stats will suffice Level one of each to lvl80/90/100 and post stats for both at those levels. If you have the time and are really interested in researching this, that is. Good luckValhalla disband. That is all \o/

I'm not quite sure what you specifically mean about "tank pet", as that's a pretty general term as veno pets rarely tank anything nowadays.
I would recommend the pet simulator, though, and consider, if you're not going for a herc, to look at the stats of these pets and at certain levels with legendary skills like claw, protect, strong.
http://ecatomb.net/pet_database.php
It was through this where I chose a seamonster guardian for my 2nd veno. It's not the best DD pet but it is quite decent for what it does and with the right skills and sufficient -chan (even with an HA/AA build) can tank nearly everything a herc can.0 -
b:victory The little Qingfu's are so underestimated. I personally trained one from each of the starter cities for fun, they were my main tank pets on my first veno. I had one for debuffing, one for DD, and one for general aggro holding.
After checking ecatom's pet skill database (stats at level 19), the qingfu surpasses the walker in HP (by 1 point, but still), physical and magic defense, accuracy, and attack speed. The glacial walker has better dps and overall attack power though. After revisiting that, it almost makes me want to tame a qingfu again, and stock it up with the same skills my walker has! =D[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

there's an old thread about tanking bug pets...let me grab the link

I had a qingfu a few years ago that I used until it was around lvl 90, then just said "f*ck it" , banked it and got a herc like everyone else b:infuriatedRetired b:bye0 -

What important for tanking pet :
1. HP to receive punishment
2. Defense to reduce damage received
3. Ability to keep hate
Now there ranged and melee rules, some mob deal less damage while doing ranged attack. At that time ranged pet could become a better tanker.
Why use duel to determine tank pet ? b:shutup That was comparing pet for pvp / dd.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I hear a lot of talk about comparing these pets at lv 19. Have you taken them further? A lot further?
I've used that pet simulator, and I took it to lv 99. The Glacial Walker took the lead in every aspect. You must take into account stat growth rates. The Glacial Walker tamed at 19 might be weaker at first. But as it level's, it passes the other pets because the stats grow faster.
Level both pets at least 10-15 levels, then compare their stats."Impatience walks with disaster." My own phrase.
"Let the winds of winter come. I fear not famine, nor blizzard, nor an army of predators. For I am wolf. My power is matched by the many that stand beside me. Come what may. I have faced it before, and it has yet to touch me." *The Alpha's Warning*0 -
Conall is right. When comparing pets you have to consider their growth statistics as well. For example at lvl 80 the Armored Bear has lower statistics than a lvl 80 Shaodu Cub and it only excels in speed. However, at lvl 100 the bear seem to have slightly higher statistics than the Cub (although the attack remains lower).
Ecatomb's pet simulator is very useful for comparing pets, levels and how skills (mostly buffs) affect the statistics of the pets.[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

Yeah, but the Qingfu doesn't block 9/10ths of your screen while it's out. >_> Reason 1 I decided to use one with my HA Veno.
I was looking for a pet for my HA veno that could do DPS without needing lots of heals, so Qingfu it was for me. Though, I might be switching over to UberToad soon. If I ever decide to play my HA veno again.101 Sage Sin*/Archer
100 Demon BM*/Barb
96 Demon Cleric/Sage Seeker
95 Demon Wiz/
94 Sage Veno

And a handful of other alts, all 79 and under.

I, too, prefer small pets that doesn't block your screen (but in the case of hercules there was not much I could do XD).
I was mostly pointing out that one should/could compare the growth statistics of pets to have an image of the said pet as a whole because perhaps some people forget or don't know about that. I wasn't favouring the Bear in any case. I prefer the Cub all the way b:chuckle I still have mine and I use it ocassionaly.[SIGPIC]http://i.imgur.com/MtwcqjL.png[/SIGPIC]

Yes, Glacial Walker, is the best non cash shop tank by far. Absolutely no comparison to the 2 beetle options.
Glacial Walker is also a better all around pet for killing mobs. The beetles are hell to level, cause they can't hold agro.
New players, don't even waste your time with the other pets. Just grab a Glacial Walker and get to leveling it up.
I was one of the biggest anti-big pets there ever was and went a long time without a Magmite, when i first started. I also atttepted to level the Quingfu and the Beetle. They were discontinued at about level 35. There are alot of fun, small pets to grind with, but to tank a boss, go for the Glacial Walker. Or when you hit lvl 80 get an Armored Bear.0 -
Umm honestly just get a glacial walker that huge thing is awesome around my lvl but if you dont want a huge pet i'd suggest a shaodu cub or something with decent defense but you should have a walker if you want to tank something.0
-
The Ring Wraith is another good pet, OOOOooops I mean Shadow Ranger b:chuckle
The reason why the Qingfu wins vs Walker is because it's attack speed is 0 . 8, same as the Shadow Ranger, but the Shadow Ranger has more Phy Def, less Magic Def, than the Qingfu, so might be the tank your after.0 -
Sorry I haven't looked at this in a while. I was busy with real life stuff.
I am leveling up the Qingfu on my level 91 veno (it's at level 56 so far), but I refuse to level up the rock pet because it's just not my thing. I have a lot of mounts and pets that refuse to give up their slot in my pet bag for this pet. Lol. Depending on how fast I level the buggy, would anyone mind throwing their rock pet stats out?
I will mention that my boyfriend's buggy now has Flesh Realm, Bloodthirst, Claw, and Tough. These skills have increased his buggy's chances of holding aggro by a lot.0 -
ok so my walker is 82 im gonna post its stats:
HP:2914
P.Atk:2751
P.Def:7972
M.Def:5846
Accuracy:1231
Evade:912
Speed:6.20 -
I'm guessing your looking for stats at the 40 -70 level to get a feel for how its progressing but ill post mine just in case it's desired.
My level 98 Glacial Walker stats:
HP:3482
P.Atk:3763
P.Def:9572
M.Def:7019
Accuracy:1471
Evade:1089
Speed:6.3m/sec0 -
Herc is the best even without its skills on, and with it's buffs it gets to double the defence of any other pet, and with it's bramble reflect it's Dps is second only to Nix.
But if the cost is to much;
These are the main 4 common ground pets people should be looking at, if your after stats rather than looks;
_______Name______lvl____Coord.____HP___Atk____P.de f_M.def__Acc.__Dodge_Atk/s_m/s
__Shadow Ranger___10__(678 267)__3029__3343__9204__5917__1851__1234__0.8__7.9
___Jaden Qingfu_____1__(251 630)__3311__2568__8625__7298__2037__1132__0.8__6.6
__Glacial Walker____19__(667 175)__3553__3901__9772__7166__1501__1112__0.6__6.3
Crystalline Magmite__17__(486 967)__3259__3903__9792__6528__1504__1114__0.6__6.3
(Info is from ecatomb for when all the pets are at level 100)
By putting the Walker next to the Magmite we see the Walker is better in nearly everyway.
Qingfu is a pet that the less rich players should go for, as it comes with the pet skill boost. Which means it can totaly look after its self wile fighting mobs.
Only slightly less defence than the Walker and ALOT more aps is the Shadow Ranger, in my opinion easly the best of these 4 pets for stats.
Note: stats isn't everything, if you hate how a pet looks don't use it, it's best to have fun and enjoy playing, thats how you can keep at it and get high.0 -

This is why the poor stay poor. Garbage in -> Garbage out.
With venos being too lazy to amp; do you really think they want to hit boost constantly? I'm one of the least lazy and I got sick of the skill which restores such a silly amount of hp to begin with. Kill 20% faster instead.0 -
Boost is actualy quite nice, 8% to 12% per 10seconds, its actualy quite fast healing. I think alot of Melee classes would like to learn boost instead of glugging potions b:chuckle
Good for you for not being lazy, im not a lazy gamer either, I'll send my pet to fight one mob wile I fight a different one. There are some people though that like to sit and chat to friends and faction wile the pet does all the work, or play with fashion in the cash shop.0 -

See tweakz can't be comfortable without having the "best of the best of the best". So his advice tailors exclusively to cookie cutter and nothing else. It's hard to see how he even has fun in this game given how narrow his view about everything is. It gets hilarious though when he gets up on his soapbox and start ranting, especially about other classes that he has never even played (the archer = sux at melee damage is epic too), but surely will be giving unwarranted advice on when he powerlevels them.0 -

Sadly nobody cares, but to be purely pragmatic:
1. This thread is about whether or not Quinqfu is the best tank pet.
2. By its very nature, it invites people to nominate candidates for "best tank pet"
3. "Best tank pet" can only be chosen based on its stats.
4. There are pets whose stats are clearly better than all the others for tanking.
5. Frankly, I don't see why you would waste time leveling a non-factor pet.
6. It's a good idea to advise doubtful venomancers to get the best pets. That is not a bad or narrow minded thing to do. It is actually the best thing to do.
7. Not having the best pet doesn't in any way improve your gaming experience.
8. Yet again, JanusZeal just really isn't making any sense.Valhalla disband. That is all \o/
