What are the Options (APS vs. Not APS)

There is a lot of buzz over in the General Discussion Forums at the moment regarding the possibility that Demon Spark may be getting a massive Nerf that would prevent people who enter Demon Spark from gaining Chi from non-skill related attacks while under the effects of Demon Spark. This would in effect limit the amount of Attacks Per Second that an Assassin could pull off because they would be unable (at least by my reckoning) to maintain Demon Spark solely off of ordinary mundane attacks, and would have to instead rely on at least a few skills here and there in order to enable Demon Spark again.

Thus my question, is would it not be more profitable if this change to the Demon Spark were to occur, to perhaps go for either a hybrid skill/aps build or instead maybe go outright skill spam build. And if it is more profitable to go for a hybrid build, what would the end game gear set up for such a build actually look like?

I heard that too....is this really true? Because that's going to be pretty detrimental to most of the APS players out there. Sins are actually an exception, just because they have skills that gain chi so quickly.

well, from what I understand, there is about fair chance its going to happen, but its not actually guaranteed at the moment. So nothing is certain. But there is significant discussion on the matter at the moment at any rate.

They are experimenting with it on the Chinese test servers. Meaning they may never implement it and even if they do it may take years to reach us. No point in changing your gameplay now for something that either may never come here, or may take years. My advice, go for the highest dps still, farm like crazy, get your defenses up, and deal with it if it ever makes it here. If it does come here the best option for a sin would be to be able to server the 12 seconds unsparked it takes to get back to a 5 aps spark again which means defenses.

First of all, it's more a rumor then a cirtainty. Like saku said, there is no accurate info on IF we ever get that change, and even if yes, WHEN we would get it. I think it's a bit premature to base a build on this buzz.

Then you need to ask yourself also, would this change really make aps useless? I highly doubt, unlike most seem to do, that demon sins will all the sudden start spamming chi skills to keep their permaspark up. There are discussions going, on how it would affect sin class less then others, what it would change for vana, what it would change for soloing, etc.

The way I see it : Even if no chi gain, auto-attack during demon spark will be the best overal dps, even if it generates some off-spark time. Then gain chi with skills (or attacks, genie, pots, w/e) after spark runs out, to spark again. Don't forget you will totally waste the att speed increase of demon spark if you were to spam skills. I don't foresee a radical change in build/gear with this change, just my opinion though.
