Multi-Client and Ubuntu

I run Ubuntu 11.10 and have successfully gotten Perfect World running in Wine 1.3. It's working great, except that I can't figure out how to multi-client.

Opening the game through the patcher works perfectly, no odd errors or anything.

However, opening the element client directly throws back a dialog filled with what appears to be poorly translated chinese and [configs.pck]. No error appears in the terminal if run from the command line.

Opening a second instance through the patcher causes it to crash with the terminal message
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000030 at address 0x7bc35267 (thread 005f), starting debugger...
Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000030 in 32-bit code (0x7bc35267).

Opening a second instance directly through the element client produces the same error as trying the first one.

Any suggestions on how to get element client to behave or to get wine to run multiple instances of the patcher together without interference would be helpful.

this is very confusing, because running elementclient.exe directly from the command line is exactly what i do on ubuntu.

i have noted i must first change directory into where elementclient.exe lives; i can't start it from my $HOME directory, like i'd expect with a native Linux program. i can't recall what manner of error i was getting before i figured that out, though.

Ubuntu has, in the repo's, a nice little wine launcher app that even makes shortcuts on your desktop, including cd'ing to the proper directory, GtkWine i think, or similar, not that PlayOnLinux garbage tho that doesnt do too well as it seems to make seperate bottles for everything.. it also has a nice wine task killer that gomes in handy of your game crashes, try it out see if it'll help you with the multiclienting thing, I dont multi myself so i cant say it it works or not, but if you make shortcuts to the elementclient.exe directly and skip the launcher (just remember to check weekly for game patches) it should work, if not, check your folder permissions, could be linux is locking the files that are open and the second client cant access them, i actually had a fat32 partition just for games as some games seem to have issues with how linux does permissions.

I can't believe it, but this was the problem. I feel a bit stupid now, but thanks. cding into the element folder and running it from there works.

I've made a launcher for Unity that covers the patcher and the element client to keep from having this problem.

Thanks for the replies, and it's nice to see other Ubuntu users here!
